Ice Tiger WIP

Yooo guys, I wanted to try doing some realism but with a little spin, so I'm working on this picture:

I was wondering if I could get your guys' opinion on it, what do you think of the ice effect? Is the shading alright? Also, should I have stripes on the icy part? I tried it before, but then it started blending in to the furry part too much.

Also, what should I do for the background? I wanted to do snowy ground and dark sky, but the tiger just ended up blending into the snow and I want a high contrast between the tiger and the background

So yeah, any comments would be helpful!

oh wow, that is so cool, i love the idea of a ice tiger, i'm not good enough at art to give any advice, but i think stripes on the ice would not look good,

i think blue cold ice on the tiger on its own would look so cool

Thanks for your opinion! I don't think I'm going to go with stripes, I agree, the plain blue ice looks better

Here's an update:

Added more contrast and started the fur. This is going to take forever T.T

I wish more people visited the spotlight section xP

I'm a bit nervous about the ice, I don't really know how to draw ice ^^'' I did some drawings of ice cubes, I dunno how helpful they'll end up being, though

I think the ice is looking pretty good so far, especially the bit on the nose. Just go with that lightsource and you'll be fine :3 And it never hurts to google some refs for it, goodluck!

Here I was, all ready to give crits, and I scroll down to the bottom only to find out that you've finished xD

The fur and breath and b/g look fantastic. The high-contrast really makes the tiger pop. I really like the ice effect, especially on the jaw and ear (though it confuses me that all you can see of the other ear is fur but you can't see any fur at all on the near ear). I feel that the white streat on the muzzle is a little bit over-bearing. But otherwise, looks amazing.

The tiger is only supposed to be half-ice, so I figured I could have the right side of its face be mostly ice and the left side mostly fur, hence the one furry ear. And I agree about the streak on the muzzle, I might actually change that & make the ice a bit more "jagged" looking.

Should I do more pictures like this? I was thinking of doing a fire lion next.

If you change the ice again, I thought it might look a bit more effective if the ice had a border of frost, maybe like the little fingers of it that form on your window, it would look sort of like the ice was clinging to it and becoming it? I LOOOVE the way you've shaded it, and the background looks utterly fantastic!

Hmm, that's something I'll think about, I'm not how the ice crystal things would act around fur, but it does sound cool so maybe I'll try it! Thanks!

Hmm, the final final one should be there, I replaced the first 'final' one so that one won't be there any more, but the updated version is showing up for me in my most recent post.

What do you guys think? Is the fire mane too cliche? Also, any suggestions for the rock on the lion's face? I realized that I have no idea how I'm supposed to draw that ^^'''

It looks good I think ^^ hmm for the rock on the face, maybe look at some references of lavaflows and such? Will it be breathing smoke?

About the ice tiger, I'm particularly impressed with the way you did the fur. Doing fur like that is a weakness of mine, I'm afraid. I usually can't make it look very good.
