Zyra had woken up and wandered into the canteen while Melina got ready for her day ahead. She had brought her tablet with her, doing some light reading on the data Ucluelet had given her when they had been on Kilara. The young seafoam coloured dragoness had been a boon of information whenever they had gone over. She collected notes, stories, old legends and medical information for their archives on earth. While everything had to be taken with a grain of salt and one day everything
“Thank you, Toby,” said Zyra as the man put a dish in front of her. She sipped from her mug, a sweet herbal teal before setting it to the side and looking down. Her usually plain muesli looked vastly different. The usual variety was rather basic and she often had it with a little dried fruit and milk. Today however, today the rolled oats were paired with pecans, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds. The usual bits of dried fruit were replaced with fresh blackberries, raspberries and what looked like sliced ataulfo mango.
“What’s this, Toby?” the dragoness inquired as the man grabbed a few dirty dishes from the table.
“Your breakfast, Doctor, is it not to your liking? I can do you up one with pear or perhaps apricot if you’d prefer those,” replied the man.
“No, no, this looks grand. We usually don’t get berries though unless they’re frozen,” commented the Boldwing.
“Ah well I must admit I splurged on the last restocking trip. Blackberries are in season and I just couldn’t resist. Besides I haven’t forgotten your dietary preferences. The professor had a sheet laminated for me and it’s still up in the kitchens for all of you,” he chuckled slightly before walking back to the kitchens in a rather happy spirit, “Enjoy, doctor!”
Zyra was certainly not going to let this go to waste and she savoured it, smiling and tilting her head back at the tart yet sweet flavours of the berries.
While the dragons had always been fed decently well, a lot of the larger dragon’s portions were largely consistent of ‘filler’ foods such as rice, oats, and easily grown greens. Vonriir, who’s portions were by far the grandest, never complained about the amount of these filler foods that made up a good portion of his meal. Feeding creatures as large as dragons was no easy feat nor was it cheap.
"Hey Zyra, morning, hope you are well," Hitteki said greeting the bold wing warmly.
“Good morning, Hitteki, Rift. You’re both up early,” said the dragoness as the others sat around her.
“Yeah, I witnessed Hitteki’s skill as she was training,” said Rift, trying not to wince as he took a seat beside the Syrian.
“Oh, I thought you would be with Ardon this morning. No training today?” asked Zyra before taking another mouthful.
Rift shook his head, “I waited for a while but he didn’t appear. No one’s seen him or the commander yet so I wandered around a bit and found Hitteki.”
Before Zyra could reply to this, one of Toby’s kitchen staff brought out two plates for Rift and Hitteki.
"Oh, that is new, I notice the eggs are more… orange in colour plus the mushrooms are different," Hitteki said looking at her breakfast curiously.
Zyra looked at the Syrian’s plate curiously, “Good quality eggs it appears. Toby did say he splurged on this week’s groceries. I even have fresh berries in mine. Not the usual banana or apple that can be acquired cheaply.”
“You don’t eat like this all the time?” inquired Rift, in heaven over his own plate of sausages and eggs.
“We always eat well… this just seems like we’re being spoiled at this point,” laughed Zyra.
The wraith wandered into the canteen, looking a little tired.
“Morning Veyron,” said Zyra, taking a sip of her tea.
The wraith grunted as he hopped up onto the counter where the coffee maker was percolating. He sniffed, the coffee somehow smelling richer than usual as he used one paw to try and tame the bedhead the short line of fuzz that rain down his spine from his crest was suffering. He put his hands on his lower back and stretched backwards, hearing a slight crack and pop before stretching the other way and pouring his coffee and taking a sip.
“Hm,” he sounded surprised.
“What’s up?” asked Zyra and the wraith wandered over and joined them at the table.
“Well, the coffee doesn’t taste like **** for the first time in forever,” he said.
“I thought it smelled different while it was brewing, maybe Toby got a new brand or something,” suggested the Boldwing.
"You’re picky and ungrateful," Hitteki said to the wraith as Toby walked past, hearing Veyron's comments.
"I got the luxury brand, glad you find it moderately acceptable," he said as he went back into the kitchens.
“Luxury, hm?” said Veyron, sipping the coffee again, thinking, “bout time. It tasted like sewer water for the longest time.”
A little while later Ardon wandered into the canteen, looking tired.
“There’s the golden wonder, we were just talking about you,” said Zyra before pausing, “You look tired. What’s the matter?”
“Couldn’t sleep,” said Ardon with a yawn. He had cleaned himself up for the day but the bright scales under his eyes held a darker due from lack of sleep.
“We’ll perk up, we’ve got training to do,” grinned Rift.
“Yeah, sorry I’m late. I obviously needed the sleep. Once I eat we can start,” said Ardon. Soon enough a huge heaping plate with sausages, eggs, grilled tomato among other interesting items was put in front of him.
“That’s gotta be… at least 70 dollars’ worth of food sitting in front of you,” said, Veyron, surprised. Normally Ardon’s breakfast was often filled with a large amount of hash browns or beans, cheaply acquired yet filling. On this plate there was very little.
“I’m going to enjoy every last cent of it,” said Ardon, digging in.
“Hey, chef, what’s with the 5 star quality going on here. Not that I’m complaining but...” said Veyron.
Toby smiled as if he possessed the best little secret. He leaned over the table slightly and spoke with a silly amount of glee, “The commander has bolstered my food spending budget quite handsomely. We’re having wagyu beef tonight! I haven’t prepared wagyu in years and years.” The chef seemed genuinely excited and pleased about being able to cook fancier foods with this new spending money.
“Wagyu,” marveled Veyron, mouth agape. He had eaten a very-very expensive steak or two stolen from a ridiculously posh restaurant a few times when living in LA. He never thought he’d be able to have another taste of it again since he came to the facility unless he went out in search of it again.
“Morning, everyone,” greeted Vonriir as he lumbered into the room while the others looked at each other with surprise, “My! We have gotten a new television!”
The dragons looked towards the lounge room beside them and looked shocked.
“How did I miss that,” stammered Zyra as they looked at the massive screen on the main wall where a much smaller TV had been yesterday. “I’ve been in the canteen for almost two hours now.”
“Well that is just splendid. I’ll be able to properly see the little people on the screen now without having to wear my glasses,” Vonriir thrummed.
“What the hell is going on here…” muttered Veyron as he abandoned his coffee and slinked away.

The new menu and products had not gone unnoticed by other members of staff, although the base served pretty good food and drinks, Toby had splashed out and ordered the more expensive food and other luxuries.
Mark had also noticed, he had been up early to get work done and was enjoying his morning brew, he noticed the quality of the coffee in the taste, he enjoyed it taking another big swig from his mug.
“Nice” Mark said to himself, putting his mug down and began his working day, unlucky for him, he would have a visitor.
Without knocking, Veyron invited himself into Mark's office as usual and hopped up onto the man's desk, folding his arms. "Do you know what the hell is going on here?" he said vaguely.
Mark looked up from his work and frowned, seeing the wraith upon his desk, demanding answers in his usual way.
"Good morning to you as well, what you moaning about now?" Mark said, a bit displeased his quiet moment was spoilt.
The wraith gave him a look and proceeded to speak to the man about his concerns.
"Haven't you noticed some weird changes in here over the last few weeks? New display monitors, new TVs, I noticed there's a new shuttle in the hangar yesterday. Today the coffee doesn't suck and Toby says the dragons will be eating Wagyu," stated the wraith.
Mark leaned back on his chair and though for a moment about what the wraith was saying, he indeed had noticed the new TV’s and the new shuttlecraft.
"Perhaps Jack loosened the budget and wanted to treat us all, I do not keep track of the budget, that is Jack's job, just nice to have a great coffee and sprucing up the tvs" Mark replied taking another swig of coffee.
"I think there's something off about the whole thing. I saw last quarters budget and it wouldn't be able to sustain a tenth of the upgrades here for more than a month. Something going on and I think it might have to do with that Holtan guy," grumbled Veyron.
Mark tried not to roll his eyes or frown at the nosy wraith.
"Why do you think Holtan is behind it?, the EA could of increased our budget, wanted to take care of you guys" Mark said.
The wraith shrugged his shoulders.
"I dunno. He's been all holed up and secretive since he got here. And the changes have only happened since he got here. Just a theory but one I plan on looking into," said the wraith. "I mean, I am not going to say no to upgrades. I just want to know the how and the why behind it."
The man suppressed a laugh.
"Well I think the term ignorance is bless is prudent to this situation, just don’t go pissing off Holtan...or Jack for that matter over better food and coffee" Mark said to the wraith.
"Ignorance is a death sentence or in the very least a good way to screw yourself over," replied the wraith, "I am stealthy. I won't be pissing any one off so don't worry."
Mark sighed and shook his head lightly.
“Well, I am going to turn a blind eye to the investigations of yours, just don’t ruin a good thing” Mark said to the small dragon.
"You think that I would ruin a good thing?" Asked Veyron, pretending to look offended. "If Jack allowed me to bathe in champagne I would. I just want to know why."
Mark smiled lightly.
“You don’t like not knowing stuff, gives you good bargaining power, apparently it’s a wraith’s currency, or so I’m told” Mark replied, taking another sip of coffee.
"One type at least," said Veyron, "A wraith uses whatever will get it then further ahead in life: information, valuable goods... my good looks have also helped a time or two," he said with sly grin.
Mark frowned lightly, looking at the wraith.
"Alright alright....shoo, I got work to do, just exercise caution dragon" Mark said.
"Always," replied the wraith, hopping off the desk, "oh- You earned some wraith points putting that rum in the cooler," he called over his shoulder as he sauntered out.
Mark smiled slightly.
"Your welcome" Mark said as he cracked on with his work, hoping the wraith would cause too much fuss or worse annoy his old colleague.
The wraith sauntered away but had intentions of going to find out what Holtan was all about and uncovering where to source of this generous new income had originated from.

Zyra walked down the hall towards the labs so that she could get some work underway but then felt a fluttering of happiness through the link. Quickening her pace to find out the cause, she smiled to herself as hurried off to the labs.
Melina was happy and quite rightly so, she had been after this item, not for her but for her aspiring doctor and professor, she was pleased as the technicians unpacked it.
Melina looked up and waved to Zyra who had come into the labs with a curious look upon her face at what was going on.
"What's in the box?" Inquired Zyra as she stepped through the doors to the labs, looking curiously at what the techs were pulling out of it.
Melina looked up and smiled.
“Well this was ordered by Jack but been after it for ages, its not for me, it is for you, your own mobile workstation!” she grinned.
"What?" Said the dragoness, not understanding as she peered at the equipment in disbelief.
“I wanted to get you an advanced mobile workstation, with mini analysis machines and all built in for your dissertation work for being a professor, Jack had said it was a bit on the pricy side, so it went on the back burner, then today its arrived” Melina said.
Zyra held her head between her paws, stunned. Everything had been made custom for her. The height of the station, the equipment that went with it all was made for her ease of use. Sitting back on her haunches the dragoness was reduced to speechlessness, shaking her head. "You're kidding me..." finally managed to leave her mouth after a minute or two.
Melina seemed to tun into a big child, clapping her hands happily as she inspected the workstation, she was thrilled.
“Do..do you like it?, it will really help you catch up to me Brainiac” she said , but Zyra would sense and feel how excited and happy Melina was and soon Brathille knew.
"Of course I like it. I love it. How could I not?" Stammered the dragoness, overwhelmed. "I just never thought... oh thank you Melina!" She said, losing her words again and just scooping her up into a hug.
Melina laughed and hugged the dragoness back, her palm grew warm and the dragoness scales began to glow ad glitter in an excited state.
“Im pleased you like it, so you can start doing your work to be a professor of science, this will help you allot, I am so pleased I got this” Melina said.
"Thanks again, Melina. I never thought I'd have my own station. I knew how expensive it was... This is too good to be true..." said the dragoness.
Melina looked up and grinned.
“Its amazing, I am glad you like, we need to just get you all set up on it, so we can do that, then this afternoon a fast fly, what you say doctor?” Melina asked the bold wing.
"Sounds like the perfect day," thrummed the dragoness, pleased as she could ever be.
“Excellent, let’s get this set up shall we?” Melina said as they began to get everything set up for the dragoness.

Vonriir lumbered back from the canteen with a small container cradled with care in a massive paw.
"Martina?" He called into their quarters as he stepped in. "I have something from the canteen especially for you."
Martina appeared, dressed in her uniform to go on patrol, she would be a good number of shifts with her team, to ensure the skies around the base and around the south of England were clear of anything or anyone looking for the dragons.
"Yes? What have you got there" she asked the crag back, looking at the box in his massive paw.
"Toby has been making these wonderful little baked goods, I think a few of them were called eclairs and macarons? They look like little bits of art," he said, handing her the container.
Martina opened the box and smiled, looking up at the crag back.
"Oh Vonriir, these look good, these are bad for me big guy" she lightly teased, picking one up.
"Not if you only enjoy them every now and then. I can assure you one won't hurt," smiled the dragon, "I think they look almost too lovely to eat, though."
"Yeah exactly, how you feeling von, you up to much today?" she asked with curiosity.
"No grand plans for today. The hangar manager has no need of me today," he said, settling down on the floor.
Martina seemed to frown lightly at her dragon mentioning work in the hanger.
"I rather not have you being a work horse, want you to be doing more productive plans" Martina said.
"I enjoy being helpful and assisting the staff wherever I can. Don't worry, Martina, I like helping," he assured her.
Martina nodded lightly.
"Alright, as long as you are Mr, I got patrols to do today" Martina said, finishing her cake.
The dragon lowered his head and nuzzled her shoulder gently, "Be safe, and have a good patrol. I'll be here when you return."
Martina gave the big a pet before she waved and went off to get her other gear stashed away in the pilots lockers before heading out to the skies in Avalon.

Zyra helped Sam and Melina put together her new work station, trying not to thrum like some mad hummingbird the whole time. She was so unbelievably pleased over this very generous gift. Many things in the lab had been altered to her own comfort but she never had something custom built like this for her that would truly be her very own.
After it was all set up the dragoness looked over it another dozen times it felt like, her excitement bubbling over as she kept going back to Melina to hug the poor woman. It was like she had Ardon’s excitement in that moment.
The station had specialized castor wheels and could easily be moved smoothly or locked into place, making it easy for the dragoness to find a comfortable space for her to work in.
A while later she had finally left the labs in search of sharing her good news with someone, anyone really. To her delight she spotted Jack walking down one of the halls towards his office. A big smile crossed her face. Just the person she wanted to see.
"Jack!" She called, dashing over and circling around him quickly, making him stop in his tracks. She nuzzled his cheek and licked his temple, thrumming all the while, "You shouldn't have but I love my new work station! Thank you a thousand times over!"
Jack smiled lightly and petted the dragoness’s muzzle.
"You got Melina to thank for it really, I just press order and signed the tablet," he said.
"But that is what got everything in motion," smiled the dragoness, “It was a pricey piece for our labs but it’s going to make my life so much easier now that I have it. Finally I don’t have to use the tips of my talons to type on tiny human sized keys on the computer and fiddle with tiny dials.”
She was so genuinely delighted at the generous gift and it was clearly apparent. The closeness between her and Jack allowed her to feel comfortable with such an affectionate display of thanks. Her, Jack, Melina and Ardon had been through thick and thin and that had made their own friendships its own special sort of bond. Ardon was just the same with Melina, not hesitating a second before jamming his golden muzzle at the professor to unabashedly demand pets.
Speaking of the golden dragon, he now appeared from around the corner, having finished today’s lesson with Rift, "Hey, paws off my Attilu, you’ve got your own," teased Ardon, walking up and spying Zyra and Jack chatting, "What's with all the smiles?"
"Zyra was thanking me for her new toy, Melina wanted her to have it, I just agreed the order, it was nothing," Jack said.
“It wasn’t nothing! It’s everything,” insisted the Boldwing.
"Oh, that workstation that you have a picture drawn up?” asked Ardon, recalling a small doodle of the workstation she had envisioned.
Zyra nodded, happier than anything, "Yes. It's all set up and everything now too,"
Jack smiled, "Well I am happy your happy doctor, you have fun" Jack said with a pet on her smooth scales.
“Thanks Jack!” she said, giving him one last lick before prancing away, delighted as ever.
“Stars, I should have put that order through, not you,” sighed Ardon with a wistful smile at the departing dragoness before sharing a knowing look with his Attilu.

Later that night, having snuck quietly out of Asuka’s room while she slept, a certain little wraith had made his way to his room, grabbing his trusty multi-tool. Using the special gangways, he slunk out of sight, keeping to the shadows and avoiding any internal security cameras, knowing where nearly all of them were pointing.
His gangways ended at the hub where the stairs led down to the lowest floor. From here he had to climb through a few air vents until he came out at the juncture from where the corridors led to one of three places, the pools, the garage or Holton’s wing.
Veyron glided down from the air diffuser and crept along the walls. The dark stone that made up the walls here was easier for him to blend into but still not perfect. What really helped was that down here the lights were at the lowest setting, allowing for the darkness to hide him even more. A wraith’s night vision were one of the best in the dragon world so this caused him no hindrance.
Holtan’s office was locked of course, but the wraith wasn’t bold enough to just barge in there even if he could find a way to get the door open.
Instead he found an air register at floor level. The metal grate looked similar to the one that had allowed him entry to the facility when he first arrived at torchwood.
He grabbed his screwdriver and hastily undid the four screws securing it to the wall. He caught each one so that they wouldn’t made a sound falling onto the floor before securing his talons around the edges of the grate. Veyron heaved but the grate would not budge. Attempting again the dragon found nothing but resistance.
“What the hell?” he hissed to himself, confused. All the screws were out. Why wasn’t the grate coming off. He peered at the edges of the grate and realized that the damn thing had been welded shut. Why and who would weld a grate like this shut? He hastily returned the screws to their places even though they weren’t really necessary and searched for another point of entry. Three other grates were secured in the same fashion, refusing him entry much to his chagrin.
Both doors that lead to different parts of Holtan’s wing were shut with lock and key and had security cameras about so the wraith dared not try those just yet. Instead he made the climb back up the stone wall before launching himself up to the diffuser he can come from earlier. If anyone knew the inner workings of the facility it was Veyron. Escape routes, dead ends, safe spots to hide, supplied with bits of survival items littered the insides of the walls and ceiling of the building, courtesy of the little wraith.
What he had not explored before was down in this lower level. He backtracked through the ductwork and turned down right, taking an unfamiliar route in hopes of finding a place within holtan’s quarters to drop into.

Veyron continued to try and gain access to Holtan’s wing but was left frustrated as the small areas had been welded and sealed tight, the security had been increased around the man’s area and there was for now no way in for the wraith to get access.
Grumbling, the wraith returned to his quarters empty pawed and irritable that the man would not give up his mysteries to the nosy wraith that easily, it seemed the man was more switched on to things than the dragon anticipated, appearing to hear a very keen eye for attention to detail and keeping his cards and secrets close to his chest, not something Veyron liked.
Meanwhile, Zyra had been in a wonderful mood since she delivery and had been all smiles the rest of the day. That hasn't stopped now as she pestered Melina a bit, chattering away about this and that
Melina smiled lightly as Zyra had been in a chatty and playful mood all evening as she got changed for bed.
“You been in an excitable mood all day, now its come to bed time and your still buzzing about” teased the professor lightly.
"I just keep thinking about the things I will be able to do without hassle now. I want to get back to the labs and work without being in the way or having to skirt around others or fumbling with tiny equipment," smiled the bold wing.
Melina nodded lightly.
“I have upgraded things for you anyways, got bigger equipment you can use, this work station will make you progress with catching up with me and be a professor” Melina said as she seemed in a teasing mood.
Zyra grinned, "scared to have earths first bonded dragon with a professor title?"
Melina held her head up and pretending to be a bit snobbish with her reply.
“No, I am not scared young doctor, I am merely saying I’m still the best” Melina replied with an over exaggerated posh British voice.
Zyra laughed at this, "You do the best voices. Almost as good as that mimic," she teased.
Melina chuckled at this, the excitable energy seemed to be passing through the link and keeping both of them awake and energized.
“I can’t sleep now, Brathille is excitable currently, so its bouncing between us, my palm been glowing lightly all day missy” Melina pretended to complain to the bold wing.
"Oh, my joy is too annoying for you?" Asked Zyra, grinning with a playful gleam in her eye. "Should i tone down my happiness so you can get some sleep?"
Melina shook her head as she got out of bed and grabbed some clothes.
“I think we need a fly, what do you say doctor, fancy some fast flying, late night?” she asked the dragoness.
"Sounds like a lovely idea," replied Zyra, already pushing the woman to the door with her muzzle.
Melina laughed, pushing the bold wing’s muzzle away.
“Let me get dressed first Zy, or it be a 18 plus night flight” she teased.
Zyra laughed, "well then hurry, my wings are itching to get the wind under them."
Melina smiled as she got changed quickly and then followed the excited bold wing to the dragon hanger, where the riding harnesses were kept.
Zyra was in an excitable mood, a light skip in her step as Melina got everything out for their night flight.
"Oh you're slow as a turtle in molasses," teased the dragoness, nudging the woman to hurry up and get ready.
“Hang on you, just got to clip this on and we are good, the doors are opening so once I’m on, we can fly” Melina said as she clipped the last buckle and then jumped into the saddle.
As soon as the dragoness heard the buckle click into place, she shoot off like lightning, soaring off into the night sky.

“You weren’t lying, you really did want to fly, you quick off the blocks this evening Zy” Melina said finally able to speak as the bold wing soared in the clear night sky.
"Can't get rusty so I must practice quick launches every now and then. Can't let anyone else think I'm getting slow," said the dragoness as she levelled off.
Melina grinned lightly, knowing the bold wing was fast, with the aid of brathille being an extra incentive, she had a bit of a plan to try and burn off the energy.
“Well, we haven’t done this since you vsed Tarok, so I’m going to see how fast you can go, lets go into gears once you warmed up, show me what you got doctor” Melina said buckling down close so she remained secure and as aerodynamic as possible for these fierce speeds bold wings could reach.
The dragoness allowed her muscles to warm up, doing a number of circles above the base before to began to glide again.
"Hang on," she instructed before launching herself into high gear. Wings beating hard the dragoness rocketed across the sky, swooping and arcing in every direction to mix up her flight pattern as she raced through the night.
Melina held on as the bold wing raced across the sky, eliciting whoops and laughs from the professor, who loved travelling at speed and getting her adrenaline flowing into her,
“Faster Zy!” she shouted.
As she flew at breakneck speed the dragoness seemed to tap into another gear, surging ahead with even greater speed as she wove through imaginary obstacles under the night sky.
Melina was impressed and grinning as Zyra flew faster than she felt was possible, her wings were a blur as she sped around in the night sky, the bold wing showing how quick bold wing’s were.
The dragoness began to feel the pangs of sore muscles and began to slow, panting hard after sustaining such a rapid flight for so long. She stopped beating her tired wings and just let the thermal carry her.
Melina smiled and patted her shoulder lightly but felt the sweat lightly on her pristine white scales.
“Blimey Zy, you flew the fastest I’ve ever seen you fly, that was indeed incredible speed from you” Melina said to the dragoness.
"Hm," was all the dragoness could do to reply as she caught her breath.
Melina grinned as her heart rate was returning to normal.
"I dont think any Coastal will beat you after that performance Zy, you are the queen of speed...though sweaty" the professor lightly teased, feeling the perspiration come through the scales from her intense speed flying.
Zyra laughed, "Sorry. We can head back so I can wash up. My wings feel wobbly now anyway."
Melina agreed with this. Nodding her head.
"Well, least you sleep, you give Ardy and run with wing muscles like that" Melina said with a sly smile.
She had noticed the wing muscles enlarged under the scales and Melina was proud that she did look pretty impressive, this would feed to Zyra through Brathille.
"Is that a little competitiveness I hear?" Teased Zyra, looking over her shoulder at the woman.
Melina gave a small, sly smile as she tried to reign in her competitiveness as she did not answer the bold wings question, just a knowing look on her face and in her eyes.
“We best head back Zy, you flown really well” Melina said.
Zyra gave her attilu a look, lifting an eyebrow in, "mel..." she prompted.
Melina shook her head.
“Its nothing Zy, we best head back, I think I have worn you out enough now” Melina said with a teasing smile.
"I have you 200 feet up in the air. I can stay here until you answer my question," grinned the dragoness
“Zy!” Melina said laughing as she looked down below at the ground, she could see Zyra grinning.
“You probably can feel what I’m feeling, Brathille gives it away” the professor said.
"I have a vague idea," smirked the dragoness, circling in a lazy loop, waiting for the woman to reply.
Melina gave the dragoness a look as she circled in a wide, lazy loop in the sky.
"Zyra come on....lets go home, you need a wash" Melina lightly protested.
"Why won't you tell me?" Asked Zyra, sounding sincere now.
Melina sighed lightly.
“I’m competitive, I want me to have the best dragon, Ardy and Jack are top of the brathille chain, but always got to be a close second” she finally admitted.
Zyra laughed, "I can kick Ardy’s tail in a number of things. We aren't number two," she insisted.
Melina chuckled lightly.
“Well that is true, but they beat us in a few, but 2 out of 3 isn’t bad” she smiled lightly.
"See, not all bad. Besides, You gotta let the boys win once in a while or else they get Whiny," she laughed.
Melina laughed lightly, nodding in agreement, she tried not to let her competitive side worry Zyra.
“Come on you, home time or we both get cold up here, circling” Melina said.
"Alright alright," said she, diving down gently. "Back to reality."
Melina smiled lightly as the dragoness glided back towards the base, she was being gentle and flapped her wings occasionally.
"Thank you for the flight...apart from circling the airport...just like waiting to land at Heathrow" she teased.
"Better service, thank you," scoffed the dragoness, landing on the ground in the hangar.
Melina got off, patting the dragoness lightly on the shoulder as she took off the dragoness saddle and gear and hung it up, she would clean it in the morning after breakfast.
The two girls returned to their quarters as they both went into their separate shower cubicles to rinse off after their flight.
Once out of the shower, Melina had gotten into her PJs and Zyra had come out after drying off best she could, some areas remained out of reach for the bold wing.
"Hey, can you dry the spot that I can't reach between my wings?" Requested the dragoness.
"Sure Zy I can do that “Melina said getting a soft towel and drying her scales gently in small circular motions, to dry her scales which now sparkled clean.
"Thanks," smiled the bold wing. "Shaking your shakes dry just doesn't cut it when one is introduced to towels," she laughed.
Melina smiled at this comment, thinking of her wild counterparts.
"Spoilt you dragons are, in the wild there be no soft towels or beds" Melina teased.
"Nope. That's why I consider myself lucky to be here," she grinned.
Melina finished drying the dragoness and put the towel to hang dry in her bathroom as the conversation moved onto their anticipated trip away.
"So, when do you think we'll get time to go to Iban'tu again? Asked Zyra.
"We should be ok to visit in a few weeks’ time if all is well" Melina said.
"A few weeks! Really?" said Zyra, she didn't think they'd be able to get leave until a few months from then at the very least.
Melina nodded lightly.
"If your very good and all goes to plan, we should be good, have to take a shuttle" Melina said.
Zyra laughed, "If I'M very good?"
Melina grinned at the bold wing.
"Yes, now sleep I think doctor" Melina said diving into bed and getting settled under the quilts and the pillows she had.
The dragoness laughed lightly again, shaking her head before she settled into her own bed on the floor with a happy sigh, "Thanks again, Mel."
Melina soon drifted off to sleep and soon so did the dragoness on her bed as the lights dimmed and switched off.
The next morning Martina was up early for her patrol, she had already showered by the time the massive crag back stirred awake and now came out of her section of their shared quarters, oddly she was in her kit for flying with the massive dragon.
Vonriir had woken as usual to walk Martina to the hangar for her patrol but noticed she was wearing her flying harness.
"Miss Martina, I think you may have your days confused. You're to fly the Avalon for your patrol today."
Martina looked up and smiled.
"Your replacing Avalon today big guy, so you have to get ready mr" Martina said.
"Am I really?" He asked with a smile, "and why is that?"
Martina grinned, looking up.
"Mark said it be beneficial to learn and get more experience flying with you under my belt, plus keeps you active" Martina replied to the crag back.
"You're sure it was Mark who said that?" Chuckled Vonriir, turning to go get his own harness.
Melina nodded her head.
"Come on, before he changes his mind, it is beautiful out, or so said the BBC website, be mice for us to fly" Martina said.
"Alright, alright," smiled Vonriir, putting out a paw so he could lift her up to his back. "We'll get going."
Martina got on and soon once all the checks were done, Martina activated the dragon hanger door which opened and light came in, along with the crisp morning air.
“Looks great for flying Von, hopefully the air be calm for you, not that you get buffeted easily” Martina said to the cragback.
Vonriir lifted his head and stiffed as the door above opened, "Smells like it will be a fine enough day for flying."
Martina smiled.
“Excellent, well I am all strapped in so when your ready Vonriir, we can go” she said with a hint of excitement which bounced via their shared link.
The crag back chuckled and unfurled his massive wings, "Upward and onward,” he said before launching himself into the air.
Martina gripped on and laughed as she felt the jolt upwards as Vonriir slowly flew up into the air with the massive beats of his wings.
“I always find this part amazing, going up in Avalon is far different than on dragon back” Martina said, a bit loudly so the massive dragon could hear her.
"A bit slower than Avalon," smiled the large dragon. "But I'm glad you enjoy my take-offs."
“I do enjoy flying with you Mr as well, just part of the job is I have a ship with me, don’t get jealous sir” she said.
"I don't get jealous," laughed the large dragon, banking left slightly, catching thermals wherever he could find them on their route.
Martina smiled as she surveyed the area as they went about a patrol route, she looked with her binoculars and could not see anything troubling or a risk to them.
" I think another 30 minutes and then back in, we head over there” Martina directed the dragon as he flew towards where the woman pointed to, their patrol continued as the sun shone down, with Vonriir’s scales sparkling at times.

Veyron had made his third attempt a few days later. Nothing he had done so far had worked but his time had been limited. He had not wanted to waste any time with Asuka and he had to ensure that she was asleep before he slunk away as well as the rest of the facility so that he would risk less of a chance at being caught.
So far his usual routes through the inner workings of the facility had proven fruitless down in the lower level. The whole system was set up differently where it connected to Holtan’s wing.
Today he decided to try a different route, however. He had drafted up plans while Asuka joined Zyra and Melina for yoga the previous morning, plotting where he thought ventilation shafts and air ducts would be. There had to be airflow for that side of the building so there must be a way for him to get in. He was certain of it. He stole blueprints that he had managed to find in Mark’s office but they were incomplete, much to the dragon’s chagrin so he had to improvise and guess where certain things would be.
“Harvey, get off my work,” hissed the wraith as his ginger tabby decided to lie across his blueprints while he was in the middle of committing them to memory.
The cat gave him a look with his yellowy eyes before sauntering away.
“Yeah I know you think it’s a bad idea but I want to know what he’s up to in there,” Veyron said to the cat. Harvey, sat down on the floor at looked at the wraith.
“Don’t give me that look, I know what I’m doing,” he said, pointing his pen at the cat, “I’m going to find out one way or another.”
In the early hours of the morning, before most of the facility woke for the day, Veyron had crept down to the lower levels and broke his way into the ceiling, carving a hole in the drywall from inside one of the walls near the hub. He pulled away the loose bits of gyprock and squeezed through the opening.
Inside he could run along the interior rafters, being careful to run along the structural beams and not on the ceiling tiles that here acted like his floor.
He followed wires leading from the known side of the facility towards Holtan’s but was met with solid concrete time after time
“God damn it,” he snarled after a fourth dead end. Finally he managed to squeeze his way between a wall of cement and a steel beam towards another area. He figured he was above Holtan’s office door. “Yes!” he grinned to himself, seeing an HVAC system that went straight into Holtan’s quarters. An access panel was tacked onto the side, more than large enough for the wraith to saunter through once opened.
The wraith braced himself on the top side of the T-bar ceiling, keeping his paws along the thin metal beams and put his paws on the edges of the metal flap that would allow him access. He cursed to himself, seeing that the panel was going to be a bit tricky to remove.
Hitteki, who had been in the hall below him during this time, stopped and titled her head, listening in as she heard cursing and talons clicking, she seemed puzzled looking upwards at the ceiling.
Just as the wraith began to pull up did he realize he had been hearing a strange buzzing the whole time he had been in the ceiling. Too late. The second he pulled up a shock of electricity streaked through him. His fur pointed on end and he was flung backwards. Hitting the concrete wall he flopped forward, breaking through the ceiling tile.
Veyron came tumbling out of the ceiling above, and hit the floor in front of the Syrian with a thump, still smoking slightly and unmoving.
Hitteki looked surprised to see the wraith but the dragoness had to fight a smirk appearing on her face, she was trying not to laugh as she looked at the dragon still now as he begun to slowly shift, moaning. He had fallen awkwardly and had not been alert enough to break his fall properly. His hip sent sharp shocks of pain as he moved.
"Ugh, ****," groaned the wraith, sitting up carefully and patting out a patch of his suede-like hide that still smoked. Just then he realized there has been a witness to his misfortune. He closed his eyes and rubbed his face, growling.
Hitteki was fighting hard to not burst out laughing as she tried to speak normally.
"Are… are you ok?" she asked.
"Do I look okay!" Snapped the wraith, getting to his feet and dusting himself off, "Some ******* booby trapped the damn hvac system up there!"
"Oh....is that why you look like you been on the bbq," she said as she then burst out laughing.
Veyron ground his teeth, "Shut it! Why the hell are you down here anyway?" he demanded
Hitteki was still laughing, "You know you could be a wraith candle" she said as she continued to laugh.
Veyron growled, pissed that Hitteki of all people had been the one to show up for this. The sound of her laughter rubbed him the wrong way, "Enough, you fuzz brained idiot." He seethed before seeing the mail she carried. An idea sprang to mind. Something could be done about this… just if… "You delivering that to Holtan?"
Hitteki looked at the letters.
"You just missed delivery, Scorch, I am taking these to the post room to send out." she said.
“Damn it…. does Holtan answer the door when you take him things though? Or do you just slide it under the door?" the wraith questioned her, still plotting.
"I put them in his secure box outside his office, I am not allowed in there, security clearance and all" Hitteki said.
"****, well, does he answer his door for anything?" he asked her.
Hitteki shrugged.
"I do not know, I hardly see the guy at all to be honest," Hitteki replied still chuckling lightly at seeing Veyron before.
His other plan foiled the wraith resumed his grouchy mood. Jabbing his finger at her he growled, "Not a damn word to anyone!"
"What’s the terms" Hitteki said to the wraith, her turn to use a bargaining chip.
"You are still stuck under my rein for another month from our bet," he said, "Don't say a word or else..."
The wraith paused, thinking, "Or...find me a way in to Holtan's office without anyone knowing and I'll free you of your debt to me." He offered her, hoping she’d take the bait.
"I haven’t versed Asuka yet Veyron, she hasn’t approached me and I haven’t either… but for now I keep it quiet" Hitteki said.
"I thought I still had a month..." said the wraith, rubbing his head. He could feel his fur was sticking up all over the place. That shock must have zapped more than his hide. "Anyway, whatever, if you get me into Holtan's office I'll make it worth your while."
Hitteki sighed lightly, shaking her head.
"I see what I can do, no promises mind you, can’t believe I’m taking instructions by a wraith.
"You'll do well in life if you do," said the little dragon, groaning a bit as he limped over to her and climbed up her foreleg. He settled on her back, "Now, kick that tile out of sight and if you could kindly drop me off at my room before anyone sees us down here."
Hitteki tried not to roll her eyes as she carried the wraith back to his quarters, she still chuckled lightly to herself as they walked back to the upper levels.
Veyron had a splitting headache and a bone to pick with whoever had set that system up.
He slid off Hitteki’s shoulder and went into his room without a glance back or a thank you. Shutting the door, Harvey looked up from his spot on the bed and meowed at the wraith.
“Not another word,” huffed the little dragon, wandering over to his bath room. He hopped up onto the sink and tried to wash away the burnt fur and soot. Veyron had a strange mix of soft scales and a suede like fur on most of his body, a dense short hair sprouted up along his spine but most of this bad been charred and burned in patches, making him look a mess. He scrubbed what he could but catching sight of himself in the mirror he still looked dreadful. Luckily he didn’t sustain any major burns or injuries so he’d save face not having to go down to the infirmary to see Melina.
He dried himself off and climbed onto his bed, flopping down on the luxurious duvet. He cracked open a green eye when he heard his door open but realized it was Asuka. He sat up and fussed with the hair between his crest horns.
"Oh Veyron, I wondered where you were, what has happened, are you ok my bold dragon?" she said.
"Someone set a system up to shock me on one of my gangways," he lied, trying to make his short hair not stand on end anymore. "Pretty sure my heart stopped for a minute."
"Oh no, who could of done such a thing....it wasn’t that green dragoness was it?" she asked as she curled about him.
"Could have been. I don't know," he said, emphasizing his limp to garner more sympathy from her. He leaned against her purple scales and sighed dramatically, "I work my ass off here and this is the thanks I get."
Asuka growled lightly. "She is in big trouble if she has, I be handing her tail to her, such disgrace," Asuka said.
“You do that and you’ll make my whole year,” replied the wraith, holding his temples to attempt to make this headache go away. Whoever zapped him was going to pay for this insult.

After the morning Yoga and morning flight, the professor and Zyra headed towards the canteen for breakfast, the professor was in good spirits today and this fed through to Zyra who also had a smile on her face.
The bold wing offered to get their breakfast for them both as Melina sat down and watched the news on the much larger smart TV in the canteen, indeed it had become popular as staff sat nearby with their morning brews of coffee and tea, some commenting on the quality of the 4K HD crisp look on the TV.
"Another 5 star menu," Said Zyra, looking at Melina's dish before setting it in front of the professor. "I have been loving all the fresh fruit we've been having."
Melina smiled noticing the higher quality of food.
“Yes, we seem to be splashing out a bit, Jack hasn’t said anything, better food, more upgrades and your workstation, very strange isn’t it” Melina said eating her breakfast, but enjoying the taste.
“Mmm, this is good” she said quietly.
Zyra nodded, "It would take a generous sum for all these upgrades. I wonder if we've been given a larger budget but I can't see the EA offering surplus money just for a fancier grocery list and newer equipment when the things we had before were just fine... more than adequate really."
Melina agreed as she continued her breakfast, chatting with Zyra, soon enough Mick came out of the canteen with a wheeled trolley with nice, luxurious goodies on it.
Melina noticed and spoke to the man with a smile.
“Hey mick, what’s with the lavish tray of food, someone coming” she asked as she picked up her mug of herbal tea.
Mick smiled lightly
“Had orders, we got a new person coming in this afternoon, a new person a professor Monroe I think?” mick said.
That name dropped onto Melina like a bombshell as she let go of her mug and its contents fell onto the table, the mug broke and a loose chip cut the woman’s hand as she was now bled lightly as Melina seemed in shock at hearing about professor Monroe.
Zyra jolted in surprise, "Mel, you cut yourself!" she said, brushing away the pieces and reaching for her palm to hold a napkin to it.
Melina took the Napkin as Mick got a cloth and went to get the first aid kit.
“Are you ok professor?” he asked her but the woman did not answer.
Melina soon got up with haste and left, with Mick looking at Zyra, a bit puzzled at the woman’s reaction as she walked away at a brisk pace and seemed to be heading either to her quarters or the labs, Toby had come out as well to see what was the issue.
“Is the professor ok?, is she hurt?” Toby asked the bold wing as the professor had vanished.
"Um, excuse me," said Zyra, quickly getting up and hurrying out after the professor. "Mel!" she called after her.
Melina seemed to be in a trance as she walked back to her quarters opening the door and it shut quickly behind her and locked the door, preventing the bold wing access, she took a few deep breaths as she inspected her hand and then went to the bathroom to clean it up.
Zyra heard the door shut as she turned the corner. Hurrying up to their quarters she quickly realized that she had been locked out.
"Mel..." she said, leaning against the door. She could feel some strange tension bubbling through their link. "Mel are you okay, what's going on?"
Melina looked back at the door, hearing and feeling the bold wing nearby, she seemed to try and block out the feelings via the link focussing hard as she went to wash her hand, clearing the blood away to reveal the cut, she washed it in cold water to stop the bleeding.
Zyra could feel the feelings passing through the link waver and fade slightly in and out.
"Don't hide from me, Mel. What's going on?"
Melina seemed to ignore her dragoness as the woman went to reach for the medical kit and bandaged up her hand, putting some salve on it as she then looked at the mirror and sniffed lightly as she tried to block out Zyra’s probing and the link sending her feelings.
"Melina, don's shut me out," pleaded Zyra, sensing that she was still trying to shield herself from their link. "Let me fix whatever is going on. Please tell me..."
Hitteki was walking along the corridor and saw Zyra outside her quarters, calling inside, the Syrian guessed the dragoness was speaking to Melina, she noticed the dragoness looked in a bit of distress.
“Is everything ok guardian Zyra?” Hitteki asked the bold wing, seeing her outside her quarters.
"Um... yes.... just waiting for Mel to get ready..." lied the dragoness.
Hitteki gave the dragoness an odd look but nodded.
“Oh ok, I see I speak to you later then” Hitteki said head off down the corridor.
Zyra waited until she couldn't see the dragoness anymore before turning back to the door. She pressed her forehead against it, exasperated, "Melina... you got upset after that other woman was mentioned.... was it her?"
Melina did not respond all that came was silence and the wavering feelings of emotion as she tried to block the link between them, the emotions passing and then coming back, Melina had gone to her bed and lay there, staring up at the ceiling.
Zyra sighed, putting her paw on the door. Closing her eyes, she focused on their link, and breathed slowly. She didn't know if it would work but she tried to pass through the feeling of love and tranquillity, trying anything to get through to Melina.
Melina sighed looking at the door, she sensed the bold wing was close, she was feeling something from the link, care and calm trying to reach her.
Melina sighed again as she lay back on her pillow, “Computer, unlock door” Melian said as the bold wing would hear a click.
Zyra thanked the stars under her breath and slowly opened the door. Once inside she shut the door quietly behind her and waited for the woman to speak, not pushing for answers of bombarding her with questions the second she entered the room.
Melina had her back to the bold wing, laying on her bed as she did not say anything, the silence between them continued for a few minutes, soon Melina spoke.
“If your worried about my hand, don’t be I sorted it” she said, her voice lacking warmth or care.
"That's not what I'm worried about.." replied the dragoness, laying down on the floor.
Melina turned to face the bold wing, looking at her with a judging look.
“You wouldn’t understand, I be alright in a few hours or whatnot, go mingle” she said.
"Why wouldn't I understand?" asked Zyra gently, not allowing Melina to push her away from this conversation.
Melina shook her head.
“You never had another bold wing dragoness, who did loops round you or was a bit faster, bit smarter” she said to Zyra, the bold wing would sense an anger building via the link from the woman.
"No... you're right, I never had a chance at that," said Zyra calmly, "Is this other professor a rival of yours? Someone you worked with?"
Melina nodded lightly.
“You could say that, in a sense, be glad you never had that experience” Melina said to the dragoness, the woman seemingly opening up to her, though slowly.
"Was she mean to you?" inquired the bold wing softly.
“Not mean per say, belittling, we disagreed over allot of things, we did work together for a time, but we disagreed and her being a bit more experienced in some areas, belittled me and criticised my methods and techniques, we fell out big time and basically had to be dragged away from one another….it was the last time I saw her again” Melina explained.
Zyra tried not to bristle at hearing the other woman had belittled her Attilu in order not to feed into Melina's anger.
"Well...." she started slowly, "It’s been years since you last saw her. You work for one of the most high-ranking facilities in the world, entrusted with the Medical and science departments of a secret organization AND you are bonded to a dragon," she said with a hopeful smile, trying to bolster Melina's mood, "This Monroe lady has nothing on you, Mel.”
Melina seemed to have a whisper of a smile on her face, but it went as realization hit her.
“Maybe….but now she is working for Torchwood, she want MY labs, Jack wouldn’t of signed off on this, I got a feeling Holtan is behind it” Melina said getting up.
"They're your labs, Melina, whether she likes it or not and Holtan can't say otherwise," said Zyra firmly, "Mel, listen to me. Don't let her rattle you. If she was the one to criticize and look down on others she will want to ruffle your feathers. Show her who's in charge here and don't give her a second to think that you're put off by her coming here... okay?"
Melina looked at the bold wing.
“What happened to diplomatic Zyra?, the one who says me to keep calm, think logically and to listen to reason” she asked, but her face had a teasing smile creeping in.
"What part of keeping your cool is not diplomatic?" said Zyra, smiling back, "I think being the bigger person is the logical thing to do.... besides, it might infuriate her to see you act so nonchalant by her arrival," she said, sticking out her tongue playfully.
Melina gestured for Zyra to come closer, intending to hug her muzzle tightly, the bold wing was always there for her regardless, she did feel a bit bad for storming off but the news had shocked her.
Zyra pulled her close and licked the woman's temple, "You're the best professor the world could ask for and don't for a second think anything different."
Melina smiled and hugged her muzzle, giving her a kiss on the snout.
“I don’t deserve you at times Zyra, you are amazing dragoness, I do not know how grateful I was to bond to you all those years ago” she said though deep in her heart, some part of her yearned for the silver.
"I am too, Mel. Now don't let that woman bother you a second more. She's not worth a second of your time, okay?" Replied the boldwing.
“Alright, did I ever tell you about the fight?” Melina said chuckling lightly letting go of the dragoness muzzle.
"No you haven't," Zyra replied. "What happened?"
Melina smiled, trying to remember from all those years ago as she began to tell the bold wing what happened when she lost it with the other woman.

Veyron rubbed his hip as he poured coffee into a small mug, wincing slightly. As the lights dimmed he suddenly stopped what he was doing to see Holtan walk into the canteen.
Holtan approached and got himself a coffee, pouring it into his own sealed cup and took an apple from the fruit stand nearby, not speaking or greeting anyone.
Abandoning his coffee the wraith jumped onto the man's shoulder as he passed by, "Sub Commander!" He said to the man, "funny to see you here up on this level."
Holtan looked at the wraith upon his shoulder and seemed uninterested in speaking or having a dialogue with this annoying dragon.
“ahh, Veyron right?, Mark’s scout and saboteur” he said to the wraith.
"Saboteur? More like recon and intel, but yes. Veyron’s the name," said the dragon casually, "you've been rather elusive. You should come up more and mesh with the team."
Holtan seemed to have a neutral expression as he looked at the wraith, it was very hard to tell what this man was thinking.
“I do not mingle with many people, I have more important things to be doing, so if you kindly climb off, it would be much appreciated” Holtan said.
"well how bout I join ya? I'm sure you could use a little help if you're so busy," said Veyron slyly, settling more comfortably on the man's shoulder.
Holtan lifted his chin up, looking at the wraith, the dragon wanted something and the man knew.
“I work better alone, I think Mark will be a better shoulder to be on, so if you don’t mind” Holtan gestured to the table.
"Aw come on, Holt, nothing better than being part of the team," Veyron pressed, one last time.
Holtan did not give the wraith anything but then gave Veyron a knowing look.
“Come on then, you can see what I get up to, I am sure you be bored off your skull” Holtan said.
Veyron couldn't believe his luck, "Alright!" He said, playing cool.
Holtan walked with the wraith down to the lower levels, again everywhere he walked the lights dimmed to accommodate this mysterious person.
Soon they walked down the corridor and he reached into his pocket and put on some heavily tinted glasses and he put them on, odd since down here was darker than before.
The wraith seemed to notice.
"Cool shades, Holt. Seems the lights are even darker down here. Not that I mind. I've got good low light vision," said the wraith.
Holtan nodded.
“I know, I looked up your file on Wraiths, hence why the next bit has to happen” the man said.
Veyron had a second of uneasiness go through him before a brilliant light suddenly blinded him. He toppled backwards, missing Holtan’s jacket to save him from falling.
He hit the floor and just as his eyes adjusted to the light something stung him on his arm.
"What the ****!" He shouted, trying to scramble away.
Holtan grabbed the wraith by the tail and hung him upside down as the lights resorted back to darkness.
“As I said little wraith, I read your file and how you are nosy, too nosy for your own good, I am sorry but you will not compromise the work that is being done here” Holtan said.
Veyron swung by his tail already feeling drowsy but trying to fight it.
"You bastard. I'm a key part of this team. I WILL find out what you're do... doing ..down here...."
Holtan gave a rare smirk upon his face.
“But you won’t mr key dragon, because mixed in with that sleeping agent is a special concoction, you wont remember any of this encounter, or remember anything of today” Holtan replied.
The dragon was starting to be overcome with the drugs feeling but not before he held up both his middle fingers at the man before slumping asleep.
Holtan smirked as he carried the wraith away, by the time he woke up, he would not remember what had happened nor would he know how this transpired here.

A few hours after Veyron’s mishap in the corridor leading to Holtan’s wing, the little wraith woke up feeling like he had been hit by a truck. He shifted slightly, grumbling at the soreness along his left side before he realized he wasn’t resting on his bed. Instead he was encircled by Asuka’s deep purple scale.

"Morning, you slept well it seems, must of been busy" Asuka said with a smile, her voice coming from high above him.
Veyron held his head, sitting up and groaning as a splitting headache woke up with him, "What time is it?" he asked, somehow feeling like it was rather late. He suddenly remembered that he had planned on getting up in the wee hours of the morning today to go for another round of investigating.
“Hold on…. What time IS it?” he repeated. Despite the pain in his head he tried to stand up and peer over her coils to see his alarm clock.

"Round about 9am, I can get you your coffee if you like?" Asuka offered.
"****,” grumbled the wraith, sinking back down into a laying position, realizing that he must have slept through his alarm somehow, “I'll need it," he grumbled, rubbing his temples, confused. He swore he hadn't drank anything the previous night but he couldn't remember what he had done towards the early ours of today either. He had tried to keep his drinking to a minimum around the Japanese dragoness, wanting to keep himself in a good light with her. The worst of it had been on Kilara but she had been too stricken with the new world to notice his slight wobbling or slurring of words too much.

Asuka moved and smiled lightly as she went off in a fluid like motion to the canteen to get the wraith his coffee. After she had vanished from the doorway, Veyron had slowly gotten up from the bed, feeling almost as bad as when he had gotten electrocuted the other day. His left side felt bruised even more so than before thought he couldn’t think of how or why. Perhaps he had been pushing himself too much after his previous plummet through the ceiling?
He washed up quickly, standing under the hot water for a time to see if that would wake him out of the strange stupor he was feeling.
“Maybe I was drinking…” he wondered to himself, “Have I gotten to that point where I can’t remember if I did or not? No…. it couldn’t be… I haven’t needed to.”
His mind circled over his confusion sluggishly as he toweled himself dry and flopped back onto the bed, struggling to keep his eyes open.

The door clicked open a short while later. While the wraith was a suspicious sort, he had left it unlocked since the dragonesses arrival. was Asuka returned with some food and coffee and noticed the small dragon was limping.
"Goodness, did you have a rough night sleeping or did you drink too much again?" she asked, putting the food on the table.
Perhaps she had noticed his drinking on Kilara then….. he thought to himself. On Earth they had only shared a bit of champagne here and there.
"I don't remember," he said, trying to hide his limp from her as he reached up and took the tiny mug of coffee from her talons, "Weren't you with me?"

"You told me you were busy and needed some time, so I went back to my quarters and settled down for the evening" Asuka explained.
Veyron grew quiet at this…. Yes, yesterday he had planned to leave her in her room before carrying on his little secret mission down in Holtan’s quarters. What had happened? His internal clock surley wouldn’t have let him sleep through everything?
The wraith sat down, looking utterly confused as the coffee steamed between his paws.
"Hey, its ok, I'm sure things will get better and improve, its not like you to be down, chin up Veyron, you always make me smile, regardless of your antics," she said.
“Just groggy this morning, Cherry Blossom, but maybe it’s your turn to make me smile,” he said slyly, sipping his coffee.

Ardon was in a brave mood this morning. He had finished an early lesson with Rift and the little spine-back was now working with Vonriir. The larger dragon loved being able to teach and it gave the gold a break every now and then.
Ardon had picked out a few stems of flowers, bright red and pink. He had no idea what they were but he figured they were very pretty, or at least that someone would think so.
He had paraded into the canteen, hoping to catch Zyra there before anyone else came around. Just to his luck Zyra was sitting at the end of one of the tables, drinking tea with a bowl of fruit in front of her.
As he walked up to her, however, he realized that now might not be the best time for a gesture of flowers. She had a furrow between her brow and looked troubled by something.
“Hey Zy, what’s going on? You’ve got that look that someone has crossed you,” he said, sitting down next to her. “It wasn’t me, was it?” he tried to joke.
“No, but good guess though,” she said with a reluctant smile, “But no, it’s Melina. Apparently her rival has come to Torchwood to work with Holtan.”
Ardon nodded, “I think her last name is Monroe. A rival you say?”
“Yeah, I just don’t want Melina unhappy.. ..hold on, are those flowers?” she asked, seeing a few of the blooms behind his back.
“Oh, no… we yes, yes actually you’re right,” he said, showing them to her and trying not to blush madly at having been caught with them, His confidence had petered out and he changed his motive at the last second, “They’re…..For Melina,”
“Oh really? How nice, whatever for though?” inquired Zyra.
Ardon shrugged, unable to think of a lie on the spot but then his eyes lit up,“Just because. We had a few bunches of fresh flowers put in the hub to brighten it up even more and I thought she might like some in her office or something.”
“That’s very sweet of you, Ardon. I think she’d like that. Especially right now. She should be down any minute if you want to give them to her,” suggested the Boldwing dragoness.
“Oh… good,”
He liked the solution he had come up with anyway. Melina was by far his favorite human aside from Jack and he hadn’t offered any thanks lately for all that she did around the facility and for the dragons.
Just then, as Zyra had predicted, Melina had stepped into the canteen. Zyra waved her wingtip at her in greeting.
"Hey you two, all good?" the professor asked the two dragons.
"Yes we are. Ardy has something for you," said Zyra with a smile. Hoping that the gesture would boost the professors mood.
From behind his back are produced a pretty bouquet of flowers, offering it to the woman.
Melina smiled lightly and took the flowers.
"Aww you big golden softie, these are beautiful...what’s the occasion" she asked.
"Um, just cause," he said, meaning it. If he couldn’t give them to Zyra he was more than pleased to make Melina smile with the gesture. "You put up with all of us so you should be thanked for that once in a while at the very least."
Melina gave Zyra a look briefly before smiling at Ardon.
"I go put these in our quarters, they look lovely on the table, the professor said.
Zyra gave her a smile and Ardon offered a parting lick on her cheek before the woman disappeared.
“I think you’re just trying to get back at me for thanking Jack,” she teased the gold.
Ardon just grinned at her sheepishly in return.

No sooner as Melina had left the lights went dim around the canteen and soon the dragon’s would see Holtan, with another person with her, dressed smartly, Short brown hair, blue eyes and wearing glasses, she was roughly Melina’s height and seemed to have a similar slim build to how the professor was before she bonded with Zyra and begun training.
Indeed the dragons would know who this woman was, she was wearing a security badge and seemed to be looking around as Holtan spoke.
The dragons noticed the lights go dim, not a common occurrence up on this level but saw the sub commander walk in with a woman.
"Good morning, “Greeted Ardon, getting to his feet.
If this woman was Monroe Zyra decided she'd kill her with kindness and not let her stir her own feathers due her protectiveness over Melina.
The dragoness smiled and nodded her head, echoing the golds greeting.
Holtan looked up and so did the woman, who seemed a little in awe at the two dragons approaching, Holtan gestured to the dragons.
“The dragons of the academy, the gold is Commander Harkness dragon and the other is professor Goodwin’s dragon, she is also a doctor” Holtan said as a realisation came over the woman’s face.
“Professor Goodwin?, Melina?” she asked.
"Yes," said Zyra with a proud smile, "she's the head of our Medical department and the founder of drakine medicine ."
"She's a favourite around the facility that's for sure. By the way, my name is Ardon, this is Zyra, welcome to torchwood," said the gold.
The woman looked at them, appearing to be judging them.
“Charmed, nice to meet you, is the professor here?” she asked as Holtan stood there quietly and kept quiet as the woman talked.
"She was in the canteen for a bit but went off to tend to some things," said Ardon
"We can let her know you stopped by if you like," suggested Zyra
The woman thought for a moment.
“You can go with Zyra and Ardon, our conversation can wait, we can meet Commander Harkness soon” Holtan said as he left and the lights resumed to normal brightness.
“I’d like to speak to the professor please, I imagine she works in a lab here correct?” the woman said.
"She runs the labs here," corrected Zyra happily, "Her pride and joy. I'm not sure what is on her schedule today but perhaps we can get together in the afternoon?" Suggested the dragoness, hoping to be able to give the professor a heads up before the woman showed up at her door.
The woman nodded lightly.
“I would like that, be a experience to see what she has been up to” professor Monroe said as she walked towards the canteen to get a drink and something to eat.
"I'm going to go warn Melina," whispered Zyra.
Ardon nodded, "I'll chat with her a bit so she doesn't go searching right away. Good luck."
Ardon went to where Professor Monroe was as she inspected the menu today in Toby’s canteen, Holtan had once again disappeared, apparently leaving the woman to mingle as such.
Melina had put the flowers in a lovely vase and placed them on the table, she smiled lightly looking at them, unaware they were for her dragoness.
"Hey Mel," said Zyra, closing the door softly behind her, "I have some ... not fun news.... Monroe is out and searching for you. Ardy is distracting her at the moment though."
Melina seemed to be uneasy as she looked at the flowers, Zyra would sense the professors awkwardness and nerves, hearing that name made her uneasy and now she was finally here now working for Holtan.
"I'll go with you. You'll have to talk to her at some point," said Zyra, coming over and touching the woman's shoulder with her muzzle. "I already made it clear that those labs are yours and.." she laughed slightly, "Ardon was singing your praises. You're already looking golden and she hasn't even seen you yet."
Melina sighed lightly.
“She find something to pick a hole at, or belittle me, she hasn’t changed since our spat, the only difference is now I know more moves to give her a bleeding nose” Melina said.
Zyra gave Melina a look then smiled slightly, "I only saw her for a minute and it was clear who the better professor is. Remember what I said earlier? Don't let her get your scales up. This is YOUR facility, this are YOUR labs and you have more accolades to your name than you could shake a stick at."
Melina turned her head and smiled lightly, putting her hand on the bold wing’s muzzle.
“Thanks Zy, means allot to me, we see what happens, no spitting acid though” Melina said, teasing a little at the end.
"I'll try to refrain from any of that," smiled the bold wing.

Meanwhile Vonriir was giving the young spine back a tour of the facility and they approached the flight hanger for the human transport ships and fighters.
"And this," said Vonriir, opening the hangar doors to let the little spine-back in, "Is the flight hangar and that," he pointed, “Is the Avalon."
Rift trotted up, green eyes wide as he looked at the ship, "Woah.."
Martina was working on her ship as she saw Vonriir with the red racer, she waved to the two dragons.
“Hey guys, what you doing in the fighter hanger?, nothing interesting here except for flying metal” she said with a smile.
"This is YOUR ship?" asked Rift, trotting up to her, "It's really nice... I think. I don't know anything about ships but I like how it looks."
Vonriir chuckled, lumbering up slowly, "It is a fine ship."
Martina smiled lightly.
“I have the fastest ship but the biggest dragon, they compliment each other, but yes these things help us to defend Torchwood and help others who need it, he’s only been called upon a few times to fire upon others” Martina explained.
Rift seemed to marvel at that, "I never saw ships on kilara. Only heard horrible stories. This look much more elegant than the tales we were told."
“These ships, no one would of seen, these are top of the line, brand new, only entered service this year, taken some inspiration from the dragons I think, the bold wings, but these are very advanced ships and expensive” Martina commented.
Rift nodded, "well, that is something. You must be good at flying if they gave you one."
Vonriir smiled, "best pilot we've got."
Martina laughed lightly, shaking her head as the two males complimented her on her flying skills with Avalon, but the woman was modest.
"Boys, you make me blush, I’m alright, nothing special, anyways you behaving Von" she asked the crag back teasing a little bit.
"Of course I am!" Said the large dragon.
Rift laughed, "he's been helping teach me some of the guardian program."
"Im just teasing, excellent. You not overwhelmed so far? Or want to run back to kilara? She asked.
The spine back shook his head, "I couldn't go back after seeing all this. Is it a lot to process.... your world is so different but in a good way."
Martina smiled lightly at the young red dragon’s enthusiasm for this world.
"You don’t fancy going back to kilara and living the quiet life?" Martina asked the spine back.
Rift shook his head, "No, not after seeing all this. Everyone says that I have barely seen a fraction of it... I couldn't go back now."
"Well, its good to have you here, i am pleased you like Avalon, he’s pleased to meet you" Martina said patting the shiny hull.
Rift looked a bit confused, "He's alive?"
Martina smiled looking up at Vonriir briefly and giving the crag back a wink.
"Say hello won’t you" Martina said with a smile as she jumped off the wing.
Vonriir chuckled, "an inside joke, he's a good ship. Not as grand as flying by dragon but still, a fair piece of machinery," he winked at Martina.
Martina nodded her head lightly in agreement.
"Yes he is, anyways what you hoping to get out the project Rift, do you want to be bonded?" she asked.
"I think being bonded would be interesting. Everyone of the other bonded dragons I've met seems happy. And the powers I've heard about sound amazing," said Rift.
Vonriir smiled, "Yes, I think any dragon would be pleased to be bonded."
"Maybe one day. For now I want to learn all about your world and be a good guardian," said the spine back.
Martina smiled, looking at the young spine back.
“Well, there is no rush, but you might get lucky, like I did, when I bonded with this amazing giant, it was pretty quick, he obviously liked me enough and that magic took over” Martina said, remembering the evening they bonded.
"Ardon said that bonds can happen any time. His was immediate too from what he told me," said Rift.
"Yes, his was and so was Tarok’s and Korrin didn't take too long after. Young miss Alyia and Zyra were delayed but that doesn't change how the bond works. We aren't sure why or how brathille chooses. But it's never failed in it's choice," smiled Vonriir.
"That's awesome," said Rift.
Martina smiled.
“Oh I don’t know, I think it made a mistake with us, I think it was looking for a big man to go with a big dragon, but it found me and thought close enough” she laughed lightly.
Vonriir chuckled at this, "no I'm certain brathille chose right."
"I might be new to all this but I'd have to agree," smiled Rift.
“Ok, I am out numbered I think something to eat and perhaps Ardon or another dragon can take you round the other places” Martina said as the three of them walked out of the hanger.

The night before Asuka’s return home had finally come. While Veyron would never admit it to anyone, he would miss her company. He had gotten himself all smartened up again and made some effort in making the final day a fun one. A nice lunch with the rest of the dragons had taken place on a quiet stretch of beach after everyone had been shuttled out for one last hurrah. It had been a lovely day for it, not too hot but with bright blue skies above.
The group had chatted about their time together and ensured Asuka knew that they had enjoyed her company and had been very pleased that she had been allowed to join them, especially on Kilara. It was a pleasant day and even Veyron had reined in his sarcastic manner for the occasion.
Later that night the wraith had joined Asuka in her rooms for dinner. He had put aside his desire to search for what Holtan was hiding in favour of offering his focus to the dragoness. The search could resume once she was gone and one he didn’t feel like he had gotten run over.
"It’s a bittersweet night, I am happy to go home and see my team but I miss everything here, plus of course my favourite dragon," she said with a quiet sigh.
“Hm? Yeah, now you have all the more reason to come back and visit,” replied Veyron as he sunk into a pillow and closed his eyes. They had just enjoyed one of their finest meals yet for their final dinner together. Toby was nearly giddy with the task, using new ingredients that he had been longing to try. To top off the night they had enjoyed a bit of champagne and sakura blossom crème brulee.
Asuka smiled lightly, "Indeed, you going to miss me or be glad of the peace?" she joked.
Veyron tilted his head up and peaked at her with a vibrant sliver of his green eye, "Having you around means Mark has left me alone for the most part. They work me here to the bone so it’s been a mini holiday for me, it's been nice," the little dragon chuckled.
"I see, good positives to have, would you like me to stay here tonight or yours?" Asuka asked.
“Here, I don’t plan on moving for a while yet,” hummed the wraith. “Why bother when all we need is here?”

The next morning Veyron stood on the polished floor of the hangar, looking up at the dragoness as her belongings were loaded onto a fancy looking shuttle that would soon carry her home. T9 had sent it for her, showing off the high tech ships they possessed. It was a sleek looking craft and tastefully painted with a rose gold hue to its wings and tail fin.
Jack, Melina and Martina joined them with their dragon, as well as Comox and Hitteki to see the Japanese dragoness off.
Thank you Jack for allowing me here and to experience the facility, there is a lot I can take back with me to Torchwood 9," she said as Jack smiled.
"It’s been an honour having you here, safe trip back and you’re welcome to come back anytime," he said as Asuka gave a traditional Japanese bow which Jack did as well.
“We really enjoyed your company here, Asuka. I’m so pleased that you could come,” said Ardon.
“Please don’t be a stranger. Call any time and do come back to visit. Melina and I will miss having a talented yoga partner.”
Asuka smiled.
"I appreciate it, you have improved a lot Zyra I am impressed," the dragoness said.
Zyra bowed a little, happy with the compliment given to her, “Thank you, Asuka.”
“Safe travels, Miss Asuka. It was a pleasure to see you again,” said Vonriir with a very gentlemanly bow. After a few more farewells she finally came back to the little wraith.
"Been great to see you Veyron, hope you visit down our way or when I return here again," she smiled lightly.
Veyron smiled and said something in Japanese so that no one but her could understand before grinning slyly as his tail twitched mischeviously.
Asuka looked around and seemed to have a tinge of red appearing on her face.
Veyron laughed at evoking this response and said something else.
She responded in Japanese back with a smile wry smile.
“See ya, Cherry Blossom,” he said, reverting back to English after the brief exchange.
The shuttle powered up as Asuka went up the ramp. As soon as she had boarded the engines flared a deep indigo and lifted from the hangar floor. The doors above were already open for departure and the group watched as the shuttle rose into the cloudy sky above.
As the others moved to head out Zyra lingered to see Veyron watch the ship disappear from view before he realized she was there.
“Do I want to know what so said to her?” she asked.
“Probably not,” he said with a grin, “Or maybe you do. I do have a vacancy now.”
Zyra wrinkled her nose up at this, “You are awful, Veyron. She just left. No great sorrowful yearning or grief for her departure?”
Veyron shrugged and laughed slightly, “Well, time for a drink I think.”
“It’s not even noon yet…” said Zyra as she watched him approach her, knowing she was about to become a taxi.

“Mark is gone for the day and I know tomorrow he’s going to make me get back to work so today I will do whatever I please,” he said, climbing up to her horns.
“Don’t you do that already?” asked Zyra, shaking her head slightly as she walked him down the corridor.
“More or less. Whatever I get away with,” replied the wraith with a yawn.
“Which I think is far too much,” replied the Boldwing.
“You sound jealous, angel face,” laughed the wraith, patting her head.
“Knock it off, you’re reached your destination. I should really start charging you for these lifts,” she said as Veyron jumped off and sauntered to his room with a casual wave of not so genuine thanks.

After Asuka’s departure, not much happened as everyone returned to doing their jobs, with Jack catching up on base work and Ardon busy with guardian training Rift, it was all back to normal, with Mark off it allowed the wraith to relax with his favourite tipple and he obviously was content with the stuff him and Asuka did together.
The next morning after, Melina was in the labs working again, and signing off some lab reports using her tablet while the bold wing was cleaning the lab surfaces after losing the bet, Melina smiled as the dragoness went from one desk to another with scrubbing equipment in hand.
“You missed a bit doctor, got to do this for another week or so” the professor teased the bold wing.
"I just haven't gotten there yet," said Zyra, sticking out her tongue.
Melina looked up from her work and laughed lightly.
“You should of challenged me again back on Earth, rather than do the cleaning, best of 3” she said watching the bold wing scrub the spot the professor had jokingly pointed out.
Zyra laughed slightly, "I am not a sore loser. Plus I lost fair and square. I am happy to help out but just know you'll be doing the cleaning next time," she said with a smirk.
Melina chuckled lightly as she carried on with her reports, however the mood would soon go downhill as there was a knock on the window, as Melina looked up and saw the person that they hadn’t seen for over a few years.
Professor Monroe was at the lab entrance and knocked on the glass again, Melina had tensed up and seemed a little uneasy as she got up and walked towards the button to allow the woman to enter her labs.
Zyra silently got Melina's attention and gestured for her to keep her cool. "I have your back," she mouthed then smiled.
Melina nodded and forced a smile as she pressed the button as the doors opened, once decontamination was done, the inner doors opened and Monroe walked in casually, looking around and inspecting the place as Melina kept quiet.
Monroe looking around as she slowly made her way to where Melina was, the professor trying to keep calm with her bold wing near her for support, but it was hard not to feel anxious or angry, the last time they met it ended in a fight.
Melina kept quiet as Monroe looked around at the labs and the equipment that was here, Melina felt she was judging everything, this woman hadn’t changed one bit in the professor’s eyes, her footsteps echoed on the smooth floor of the labs.
Zyra decided to try and ease the tension in the room between the two women.
"Hello professor," said Zyra with a slight nod of her head.
Monroe turned and saw Zyra there with Melina by one of the workstations watching as she approached the professor.
“So, this is where you ended up, professor Goodwin, Torchwood 5, with your own labs and dragon” the professor said as Melina nodded her head lightly.
“I did not do too badly professor” she responded back.
“Hrmm…I still see you still Mel the magpie, looking at these labs you got here” Monroe replied, looking around again.
"I rather enjoy working in these labs," said Zyra calmly, "everything is so easily sterilized so minimize any contamination. So much better than other ones I've worked in."
Zyra paused hearing the comment from Monroe fully.
"Magpie, though? We have one of those already at the facility and I don't think it's Mel," said Zyra, hinting that she wanted an explanation.
Professor Monroe looked back at Zyra and gave a glance to Melina.
“That was her nickname in university, Mel the Magpie or Magpie Mel, she had to have the best, newest, shiniest machines and equipment for her dissertation to be a doctor to get the results while the rest of us made do, I can see that has not changed here, hundreds of thousands of credits I imagined” Monroe said.
"I think I have a new favourite bird then," said Zyra with a smile, not letting Monroe drag them down with the implied negativity, "Here we've been lucky. Jack always ensures that the team has whatever they need especially since Melina is leading the way with a number of medical projects not to mention Baxter's work as well."
Melina had to smile at this as Monroe seemed to acknowledge what the bold wing had said.
“Of course, it is very impressive professor, that is something I cannot deny” Monroe said as Melina smiled lightly.
“I appreciate it” Melina said simply, but sadly Melina would not enjoy the compliment for long as Monroe spoke again.
“But such inefficient size, the labs are way too big for this organization, at least my labs were condensed and very efficient in their work, but then again you wouldn’t have room for all your shiny equipment” Monroe replied as Melina frowned, anger bubbling between the link.
Zyra laughed, trying to break the tension, wishing that she had whatever natural talent Alyia had for diffusing this kind of situation, "Well professor they're large to accommodate dragons of course. It makes for a lot more walking for the humans but it was built to accommodate my study and participation in this work, as well as giving us ample room for medical and health work with the other dragons on the team should anyone become sick or injured. Just practical for us to have it set up this way," she said with a smile, trying to wish Melina's anger away.
“Hrmm, I see, in any case, we will be working under one roof and I thought I’d speak to you professor, it’s a big facility but we may or may not have to collab” Monroe said.
"Well hopefully you won't get lost in our giant labs," said Zyra with a slight laugh, "you can easily get turned around when in a large, complex place like this but should you need anything you can just ask any of us. Working together should be interesting." She said, behind a mask of politeness but already she didn't like the woman from this simple exchange.
Melina sensed the bold wing’s dislike for Monroe.
“We think about it, but it might be inefficient to work here, I am sure sub commander Holtan will give you a very efficient lab in the lower levels” Melina said as Monroe seemed to take the hint, lifting her head up slightly.
"I am sure,"' Zyra said, starting off slowly and leaning forward a bit to draw both the professor’s attention, "that one way or another we will find a good balance and places to work for whatever needs to be done over the next little while."
Melina looked at Zyra then to Monroe who seemed to glance between the two of them.
“Good to see you again professor Goodwin” Monroe said as she left the labs, once she was gone Melina let out a breath she had been holding in as she shook her head lightly.
Zyra bent down and touched Melina's forehead with her nose, "Stars above the tension between you two could be cut with a knife. Are you alright?"
Melina sighed lightly.
“I’m ok, but it is not going to be a comfortable experience, especially if we do have to work together, its really odd, shes not a medical scientist, she branched into advanced engineering and research, nothing in my area” Melina said.
"Do you have any idea what project Holtan brought her in for?" Inquired Zyra.
The professor shook her head lightly.
“No idea, but I will be finding out, if she is not needed here and Holtan is bringing any old person into Torchwood 5, we need explanations and they better be good” the professor replied.
"Maybe she's a love interest?" Zyra teased, trying to make Melina relax or maybe even smile after the tense interaction.
Melina gave a light laugh.
“Oh Zy, I appreciate the effort but if there is no good reason I want your permission to kick her ass, say its for science” Melina said.
"No ass kicking. I could totally tell she was trying to get a rise of if you. If you don't take her bait it's just going to irritate her," said the dragoness, circling around the woman and lowering her head that she could see eye to eye with her. "She's jealous. I can tell and she just wants to push your buttons. Don't let her."
Melina lifted her hand to the dragons muzzle and smiled lightly.
“Thank you Zy, I appreciate it, we find out what Sub Commander Holtan is up, if Veyron doesn’t know already” Melina said, thinking the wraith probably knew already.
Meanwhile Jac entered his office to catch up on a few things, with Ardon busy with Rift and teaching him on the academy code of conduct, Jack decided he could get a bit of work done, sadly that would not be the case.
Veyron had wandered the facility and finally found Jack on his way to the office. He whistled and trotted over before scurrying up to the man's shoulder. "You got a free moment, boss?"
Jack looked to see Veyron there.
“Of course, if, you’re here to ask about the coffee, Toby assures me he’s getting a nicer blend of coffee just for you” Jack said.
"No it's not about the coffee but I do appreciate that it doesn't taste like sewage anymore," said the little wraith, "its Holtan. You bring over this guy and give him his own secret little hideaway, and now he's bringing in new staff... what's the deal?"
Jack looked at the wraith with a questioning look as he was asking questions.
“Why you asking me?, haven’t you broken into his lair and discovered all of his secrets or stolen his pen?” Jack asked the wraith.
At this Veyron gave an annoyed grunt, remembering his rather shocking attempt at a break in. He didn't want to admit that he hadn't managed to find a way in yet. "You're the boss. You're supposed to know all. Easier to come to you for the details rather than have everyone at my throat for waltzing in unannounced."
Jack smiled lightly.
“Well, sub commander Holtan has a unique position within the organization but yeah I do not want curious dragons to get hurt or injured so I be speaking to Holtan, perhaps then we can all agree on steps forward” Jack said.
"Who said anything about getting hurt or injured?" Asked Veyron, giving Jack a look out of the side of his eye.
“I know you have a nagging curiosity, Holtan is a very reserved guy, I have respected his unique arrangement here, perhaps tomorrow he can open up everything to us” Jack said.
"When are we breaking in?" Asked Veyron, jokingly.
Jack smiled lightly.
“I ask Holtan tomorrow and then the other dragons and senior staff can see why things are like it is at current” Jack explained.
"Ask? You're the damn commander. You can TELL people what to do, no asking. That's the perks of being a commander, no?" Said the wraith.
Jack seemed amused by the wraiths comments.
“Normally you are correct Veyron, this arrangement is a little…unique, but let me speak to Holtan and perhaps he show us all this evening, that ok with you?” Jack said.
"Even better," grubbed the wraith, his interest captured even more now.
Jack seemed to know that the wraith wanted information, Holtan had been doing his own things recently and it did feel there was a organization within Torchwood 5.
He had been patient enough but he knew the man had to reveal some things otherwise Veyron would go pestering and could get hurt, plus perhaps saying what was going on would spur the dragons to help out, he knew Holtan was not going to like this one bit…

With the dragons gathered in the lower level, they had begun to chatter about what could be revealed today. Ardon did his best to keep a straight face over all the talking, knowing some of the secret that they were about to discover.
"Finally get the big surprise unveiled," said comox as the group stood together.
"I wonder what all the secrecy could be about," replied Zyra as she looked over to Ardon to see if he was excited as she expected him to be.
He paused for a second before giving a too-fast shrug as Zyra looked at him, confused.
Hitteki seemed puzzled by all of the commotion as she was with Vonriir and Rift, alongside the other dragons.
“I heard Sub Commander Holtan was not happy about this one bit” Hitteki told the group of dragons as Martina and Melina were chatting.
"Well... if we're going to protect torchwood and all it's assets I guess it's good that we know what they are," replied Comox
Soon Jack arrived with Holtan, the lights were dimmed here already so the man did not need the lights automatically dimmed for him, the sub commander seemed to be speaking to Jack and trying to convince him this was not a good idea.
“I still do not think this is a good idea, last thing I want is paws, claws and spies looking over our prized asset behind these blast doors” Holtan said as the group heard him say that.
"I thought we were the prized assets?" Ardon whispered to Melina.
Melina looked up and smiled lightly.
“Of course you are, don’t be silly but yeah been some tension recently” Melina said as Jack gestured to the sub commander to speak.
“Well, thank you for coming, Commander Harkness here, feels you guys are not getting to know me, or know exactly what is going on, while I do object to this intrusion of privacy, I must insist you all keep your paws to yourself before I open these doors” Holtan said, his tone was unfriendly and cold.
"You can be sure that none of us will interfere with whatever you have behind those doors," said Zyra with a look to Veyron who ignored her, green eyes bright with anticipation.
Holtan did not seem to convinced by the dragons words.
“I don’t give a damm, this is classified high tech stuff which the EA has entrusted me and this facility with, all access will be monitored carefully and you all sign contracts to confirm you obey the secrets act” Holtan said.
The dragons seemed to nod in agreement but there were a few confused looks over the whole situation as they wondered what it could be.
"Yeah, yeah we will sign whatever. Show us the whatcha got hiding down here," said Veyron.
“I haven’t finished, if you are caught or found guilty then you are exiled back to dragon land, that is how serious the EA and I take this work, the humans in this team will be imprisoned” Holtan said as Jack seemed to go quiet as the humans and even professor Baxter seemed less than impressed.
Ardon and Zyra looked over at Jack for confirmation of this but of news. They hadn't heard of anything that extreme happening before with the dragon academy dragons. The others seemed surprised and even Veyron was wary looking now.
Holtan typed in security code and other additional security measures before he activated the blast doors which opened slowly upwards.
All the dragons looked up in wonder as the doors opened, Veyron leaning forward to see, mouth hanging open slightly.
What was before them was a massive craft unlike anything designed before, resting on three legs, this vessel was massive nearly filling the whole hanger, it was a metallic silver, a round saucer section which led elegantly down to two large engine Nacelles at the back, pipes and other connections were all leading up to them, as there was mobile computers and equipment there with Professor Monroe working on her laptop there.
As everyone stared at this massive beast Jack spoke.
"This is why you been having luxury food and other things, this is the USS Jeffries" Jack said as the massive ship loomed in the hanger.
"So we've been paid off to keep silent about this thing? " asked Veyron, "what's so damn special about it that we've been given the best of the best to keep us from talking about it?"
"This is not just some ordinary bribe or payoff little dragon....allot of people would like to know about this craft" Holtan said.
"There been undesirable interest in this ship and so the EA asked us to bring it under our care" Jack added.
Comox had silently moved away and inspected the ship from a polite distance, marvelling at it as he walked down the hanger. Soon enough the others followed.
Zyra knew little about ships but still seemed impressed.
"It looks incredible." She said.
"Those engines," started Veyron as he scrambled up to jacks’ shoulder for a better view, "those don't look like anything I've seen on other ships."
“That is because it is of a unique design little dragon, it is an advanced prototype, a new kind of science and exploration vessel” Monroe said to the wraith.
Melina whispered to Zyra.
“So, this is why she was brought on board, it’s her work”.
"She helped make the ship?" Zyra whispered back, trying to not sound too surprised.
“I think she’s worked on the engines or the drive, I do not know the full details, but see all the connectors with the equipment, also see the two nerds there” Melina gestured to Baxter and Comox.
Zyra looked over and had to smile. Both the boys looked a little excited over it. Comox was gesturing with his paws, pointing along one edge of the engine and talking with Baxter.
"They're in geek heaven I think," she said quietly.
Melina smiled lightly as he saw the two chatting away, the professor pointing to Comox and showing some things that’s interested him.
"Professor," said Comox, wandering over, "can you tell me about the engines?"
Veyron overheard this and scurried over to listen.
Holtan soon came over, overhearing the conversation as the dragons gathered to the end of the ship where the two engine nacelles were.
“We are making a new way to fly, something incredible and could revolutionize space travel, unlike the jump engines and entering hyper space” Holtan said as Baxter looked up at the nacelles.
"Incredible," said Comox, sounding rather impressed.
"So fancy engines are why it's being kept so hush hush? Why?" Inquired Veyron.
Monroe tried not to roll her eyes at the question.
“Its not just engines, inside this vessel is an experimental, carefully constructed Alcubierre drive, allowing for warp travel” the professor said.
“seriously?, an actual working Alcubierre drive?” Professor Baxter said as the man’s eyes it up, if Veyron was paying attention, this was gold material.
Something about the name clicked with Veyron. He had heard it before... something Comox had said perhaps. He hummed to himself as he looked at it.
"I thought that was only at the prototype stage. I had no idea they actually built one. Has it been tested?" Asked Comox.
Zyra and Ardon exchanged a look, smiling at how much those two were excited about the ship.
“Not yet, the normal stuff has been tested, but it does power on, but this ship also has another unique thing about it, well two, not only as you can see if it sleeker design than standard omega destroyer, but it creates an artificial gravity, so no spinning section and it has a unique defence mechanism” the professor said rather proudly.
"How did you manage that?" Asked Veyron before Comox could.
Monroe was about to respond when Holtan spoke.
"With allot of hard work and dedication, sadly people got nosy and there been violent attempts to get this ship, therefore it’s been brought here" Holtan said assertively.
"Well it will be safe here and now we know, I am sure professor Baxter and Co ox would love to help" Jack said.
The mood soon turned sour as Monroe frowned.
“I do not think so, this work is paramount, I can’t have interference” Monroe said as Melina frowned and looked at her unimpressed.
“Im sure they can help” Melina said as Monroe shot a glance at her.
The male bold wing nodded, "I'm sure we could be of help." He said with a kind look to the professor.
"Yeah if you could use more nerds there are the two you'd be after," added Veyron.
“Not a chance this is too valuable of an asset for amateurs and wannabe’s” Holtan said in response to the dragon’s queries.
Comox was silenced by Monroe's reaction and stepped back a bit, surprised.
"This is Torchwood and we've always worked as a team. It wouldn't hurt to have a few more trusted eyes on the project, especially knowledgeable ones," said Zyra.
"Besides. All of us are vetted. That's why the ship is here under our protection and not somewhere else," added Ardon.
Holtan shook his head and folded his arms.
"My ship...my way, none of you will be working on it but my team" Holtan said.
Comox shifted uncomfortably and Ardon wanted to fire back that Jack hired the man and allowed him to run his side operations here but kept quiet, looking over at his Attilu to see what he'd say.
Jack sensed the annoyance coming from Ardon.
“I think we can help in some small way sub commander, indeed it is your ship and the EA’s unique machine but we got expertise here.
“Way do you think I brought in professor Monroe” Holtan said, shunning the young man’s desire to help on this unique project.
Zyra could see Ardon’s hackle scales prickle up in annoyance at Holtan ignoring his attilu's words.
"Baxter is one of the smartest people I know. If this thing needs testing, you're going to need him. Comox is nothing but a star send when it comes to assisting with this kind of thing." The gold tried to say calmly but there was a bit of tension in his voice.
Monroe shook her head and crossed her arms.
“Who asked you, your just a dragon, you don’t know the trouble’s and all the effort we done to bring this ship here, why the hell should we let you do anything apart from storing it here” Monroe said.
“Who’s the magpie now Christine” Melina said coldly.
“Its professor Monroe to you” she shot back.
“Well get your head from out your derriere then, you starting to believe you own hype” Melina fired back.
“Excuse me!” Monroe exclaimed as tensions went up.
Zyra had to fight to keep the emotions flying though the link from riling her up, "Enough!" She said loud enough to draw everyone's attention. "This is torchwood. We've always worked as a team and we can't have this kind of bickering in our ranks. Jack, this is your circus. You have the final say."
The team grew quiet as Holtan gave the dragoness a look as Jack tried to calm the situation, this was not good at all and order needed to be restored.
“Look, I know tensions are high, this is a massive ask for Torchwood to manage, yes Holtan it’s your ship, but we got some expertise here which can help, I am sure professor Melina will be happy for professor Monroe to use some of the equipment in our labs” Jack said.
Melina looked at Jack and spoke.
“I don’t know Jack, I think my labs wont be as efficient, with it being big and all” she said as Jack seemed puzzled by the woman’s comment.
Zyra was conflicted, not able to tell what the woman wanted. She grew silent and threw Ardon a look who shrugged, equally confused about the exchange.
"Oooh cat fight?" Cackled Veyron, breaking the silence in the worst possible way.
“Not helpful Veyron” Hitteki said as Holtan sighed.
“Enough of this, I allow Comox and Professor Baxter to work with professor Monroe, I do not think there needs to be anymore issues” Holtan said as Jack nodded.
“Agreed, Mark will get passes for everyone and we get documents out, this ship is to be looked after, this is why Vonriir isn’t here and is entertaining Rift upstairs, lets keep it all civil” Jack said to the team as Melina took the opportunity to walk away as Monroe watched her leave with her eyes narrowed.
Zyra followed Melina out with a confident posture. Head held high, only turning back once to look at Monroe before leaving.
Once back on the upper levels the professor spoke, frustration in her voice.
“That woman, urgh, she has not changed one bit in the 9 or so years, still up her own backside” Melina said to the bold wing.
"She seems to enjoy ruffling your feathers," said Zyra, her own discontent finally finding its way into her own voice. "I can understand now why you don't get along."
“It is a toxic atmosphere, surely Jack has to see that, regardless if we are getting top notch food or tea, its not worth it” the professor said.
"I think that you should talk to him, one on one when she's not around. Maybe we can find a solution to all of this," suggested the dragoness, giving her Attilu's temple a nuzzle with her snout.
Melina smiled lightly and gave Zyra muzzle a pet.
“Perhaps Zy..perhaps”.
Professor Baxter also walked back to the computer labs, making notes on his tablet as Comox followed him back.
"I can’t believe we have that kind of ship here," said Comox, smiling at the thought. "It's pretty incredible. And to be able to look into the mechanics of it all.... and test it at that."
He paused and frowned a little, "But.... Professor Monroe and Mel... I wasn't expecting that..."
The man looked up from his work and replied to Comox.
“Yeah, I sort of had to cringe when I saw their reactions, the professor had told me about it ages ago, they do not get on, however Monroe is responsible for making the jump engines more efficient, allowing new designs for the omega destroyers, that ship down there is amazing, especially with an Alcubierre drive” the man said.
"Yeah I was stunned to see one of those. Never thought I would. I just hope their rivalry or whatever it is between them doesn't hinder the project at all," replied Comox.
Baxter nodded his head.
“We will see what happens…..the next few weeks will be eventful, would you like to come along and see with me how it all works? Once we sign all the paperwork” Professor Baxter offered.
"Yes, I would," said the dragon, his eyes lighting up at the offer."
“Excellent, least we can do is help the professor out, im sure at least the EA would appreciate it” the man said as they returned to the labs.

After Zyra and Melina had stalked out of the room the rest of the team had made their excuses to leave to get out of the tense air that had remained.
Ardon had remained calm in the moment but now the anger was bubbling up in him and he had a hard look upon his face as he walked with Jack up the stairs towards the hub.
"Relax, your hackle scales are up, I admit not the smoothest intro we ever had" Jack admitted
Ardon didn’t realize and ran a hand down the back of his neck, trying to settle his scales there, “I don’t like them. Either of them. They act like they run the place,” he snorted. He really disliked Professor Monroe now that he had seen her talk to Melina and the rest of the team in such a way. No wonder why Mel didn’t get along with her. He suppressed a growl at remembering some of the things exchanged down in the hangar.
"I guess but we are cooperating and I was asked very nicely by Emelia, the EA have tripled our funding to have this ship housed here, you been enjoying the food and all?" Jack said.
Ardon felt a sudden flash of irritation that Jack seemed to be letting this all go. Two members of his staff were nearly at each other’s throats and all he did was change the subject to something benign when all of this was happening under his nose.
“I guess,” he grunted before mumbling, “I have to go find Rift. See you later”
With that he walked off, his own irritable mood crossing over the link like distant thunder.
"Ardy, don't frown, I know what I am doing, be glad I even convinced Holtan to show you his prized asset, so relax I get things done," Jack said after the gold.
“If you say so,” he grumbled over his shoulder before vanishing around a corner. Now more than one dragon was in a mood and things weren’t looking good for the tensions between the two groups.

Back in the hangar Veyron had hung around. He had kept his paws off everything as promised but he wasn’t even close to give up his nosey nature.
"Come along, Veyron, the tour is over for now, time to be going" Holtan said noticing the wraith still there.
"So you do know my name," Said the wraith, staying where he was on the floor under the right side of the ship. He tapped his hind foot, standing on his back legs as he inspected some of the paneling. If he could just be allowed inside… a quick tour of the interior.
"Yes indeed, I read up on all the dragon files, I like to know everything and anything, especially those of particular interest" the man replied back.
"Me too," said the wraith, looking up at the engines from where he was standing, "Does that mean I am of a particular interest to you?"
Holtan lifted his chin up with a knowing smile.
"Indeed little dragon, you are of interest to me, hence the apprehension of showing you this ship to your team," the man said.
“Ah,” said Veyron, ensuring he was out of arms reach wherever he walked, looking at the ship’s exterior with a scrutinizing eye. While he did not remember his last encounter with Holtan, some part of his instinct told him to be wary of the man and not to let him out of his site while down here, “If you read my files you’d know I am loyal to this loony bin. Don’t know what you’re so worked up about.”
Holtan smiled lightly.
"Subject to interpretation, now if you don’t mind, I rather you not take a liking to my toys" Holtan said gesturing to the door.
"Too late," grinned the wraith, finally sauntering over towards the man and the door. While the wraith had been inspecting the ship itself he had also looked around the hangar to try to see if there were any ways that he could possibly get in. This was some highly classified stuff and he didn’t want to be left in the dark about it.
Holtan watched the wraith leave and seemed to be working something out as Monroe walked out as well as the big blast doors closed and locked as security guards arrived to guard the door.

“Hey Rift, you ready for another round?” asked Ardon, coming into the canteen to see the young dragon chatting with Vonriir. He had tried to leave his anger at the entrance of the canteen and look casual as he walked up. The red looked up and smiled in return, closing a notebook and standing up.
“Yeah I am. Vonriir was just helping me learn the runes…. Letters I mean,” he explained.
“Oh,” said Ardon, looking at the closed notebook and wondering what was inside.
Vonriir, the largest dragon, had a difficult time with writing in anything smaller than a large patch of dirt due to his size, and since Rift’s arrival, they had discovered that the spine-back did not have as wide dexterity as the other dragons. He was built for running at top speed and his paws reflected that. While he did possess opposable thumbs the range of motion his other digits had wasn’t as flexible as a human hand. Rift had found it difficult to hold a small pen or pencil and instead someone had found him one of those gang giant pencils that they sold as novelties. This seemed to help but Ardon wondered how Rift’s handwriting would turn out with his own difficultly while being taught by someone like Vonriir.
He shook his head, that could wait for another day, “Great, well I want to get to work on some other stuff so let’s go down to the dragon hangar where all our program stuff is.”
“Sounds great, thanks again, Vonriir,” said the spine-back, looking up at the massive dragon.
“Any time, young Rift,” said Vonriir, settling in to watch a little tv now that his obligation had been completed.
Ardon walked them to the dragon hangar and turned on the lights before they settled onto the padded section of floor in the corner where they could go over the next steps of his guardian apprenticeship.
Rift was bright and eager to learn but questioned everything. Ardon did his best to be patient but with all the other issues swirling around his head he often found himself distracted through the lesson.
“Ardon? Guardian Ardon?” came Rift’s voice, snapping him out of his own thoughts.
“Oh, what? Sorry did you say something?” he asked.
“Are you alright? You just zoned out of the middle of our conversation,” said Rift, tilting his head to the side as if inspected the gold.
“Oh, Sorry, Rift. I didn’t mean to. A lot on my mind,” explained Ardon.
“The meeting you had earlier?”
“Kinda. It’s complicated but don’t worry about it. It ad nothing to do with you so you’re fine. I just get a little distracted,” said Ardon.
“I can imagine you have a lot on your plate.,” he said, smiling slightly at being able to use the human expression. “You’re the head of the project and Commander Harkness’s dragon. I can guess that you have a lot to be responsible for.”
Ardon nodded, “Yeah I guess you can say that. Anyway. I can deal with all that later, let’s finish your lesson. Where were we again?” he asked sheepishly.
“Going over safety procedures on missions.” Supplied the spine-back, pointing to a spot on the tablet with a snow white talon.
“Ah yes..”
Their lesson carried on well through dinner and until in the late evening when Ardon finally called an end to their training session. It was good to see that the young dragon could keep busy all that time even though some of the mandatory lessons were a little less than exciting.
Sending the red dragon off for the night, Ardon cleaned up the training material and thought about the events earlier that day. The gold always had a problem with people trying to ignore his rank but this was more than just Jack he was dealing with. He wondered how Zyra and Melina had been doing for the rest of the day. He cringed at remembering the dagger like looks shot back and forth.
At last he wandered into the canteen for a late dinner before heading off to his quarters to sleep away the tension from today.

The next morning professor Baxter was in his labs but he was not in his usual attire of smart clothing, he had a case and was packing his mobile laptop and tablet along with chargers into the case.
The man was wearing a shirt and pair of chino jeans and smart brown shoes as he packed up some bits in the lab, soon Comox entered the labs obviously wanting to make an early start on some more learning.
"Baxter do you-" started Comox as he stepped into the professor's computer labs but stopped, seeing the man dressed casual and packing a few things, "Oh, where you off to?"
The man looked up and nodded.
“Yes Comox, my annual leave, I said about it remember? I think the excitement of the last week or so has thrown a few things by the way side, just taking these bits as there is a lecture on where im visiting” the professor said as he closed his case up.
Comox shook his head as it suddenly clicked, "Oh that's right. I can't believe how quickly your holiday has arrived. Well, I hope you enjoy your time away."
Baxter smiled lightly as he looked at his smart watch for the times for the shuttle.
"Should be good, away in France and attending a few public lectures....i know classic nerd" the professor said with a light nervous laugh.
"The best kind to be," smiled Comox. "Need a hand taking things to your shuttle?"
The man shook his head.
“Thank you but no I be ok Comox, umm..I took the liberty of putting your name down as the person in charge while I’m away, are you ok with that or should I give it to Mr Suliman?” the man asked looking up at the male bold wing.
Comox looked a little surprised, "Oh, no that’s completely fine. Thanks, Baxter."
Baxter lightly smiled.
“We got a good team here Comox, you be fine, you know the systems and procedures so you be great, unless your needed for battles or appearing on worlds strongest dragon or whatever Jack decides” the professor said.
Comox laughed sheepishly and scratched his brow. "Let's hope the world doesn't go sideways while you're away. I am enjoying the calm."
“Well fire extinguishers are located around the lab, but you will be fine, I best be off, take care Comox” the professor said as he left.
"You too, Prof. See you soon," Comox called after him. He let out a breath and looked around the labs. "In charge? Let's hope I don't burn the place down." He said to himself.

In the canteen the professor and her dragoness walked down to start the day early, Melina grabbed her breakfast and then sat down at one of the tables, Zyra went to get her tea.
As Melina went to read on her tablet, someone sat down the other side of the table, Melina looked up to see it was professor Monroe, a sense of irritation came over her which bounced through the link.
Zyra looked up from making her tea at the counter to see Monroe had seated herself across from Melina. Frowning, the dragoness grabbed her tea and moved closer, wanting to be near in case anything went down.
“Professor Melina, I have a small request, seeing as I need your permission” Monroe asked as Melina put down her tablet and looked at the other woman, the tension between them was there and Zyra would feel that.
“What can little me do for you?” she replied rather coldly for the professor.
“Should I come back once you had more herbal tea?” Monroe quipped back.
“Maybe…should I?” Melina countered.
Zyra could hear the dangerous tones of voice and decided to walk up to the table and sit down with them.
"Hello Professor Monroe. Do you need something?" She asked, though her own voice lacked it's usual warmth.
Monroe seemed to lean back as Zyra was there now, it seemed that Melina had back up with the dragoness there, Melina had a small smile, seeing Monroe retract a little.
“I need to venture into your labs and ask you if I can test something out, using your equipment” she asked.
Melina seemed quiet for a moment before responding.
“Oh, in my inefficient lab?, I think I could help if you can live with its size” the professor said.
“Your polished the floors?” Monroe said.
“Every day, with a buffer polish” Melina replied
Zyra was a little exasperated with Mel allowing herself to stoop to Monroe's level but she knew that she had to diffuse the situation.
"Our labs are ready and equipped for any testing that needs to be done," said the dragoness, "We'll set the test up." She said, wanting to ensure that Melina had control over anything that happened in the lab. "Let's just get the rest done and carry on with the rest of our day hm?"
Monroe nodded lightly.
“Good, you be a great help, thanks” Monroe said as she got up and left Melina who sighed in relief as she left, it was clear the professor was a little stressed with what was going on here currently.
"Do we have rules against biting the heads off staff?" Asked Zyra dryly, looking in the direction that Monroe had disappeared.
Melina smiled and shook her head.
“Now now, your supposed to be the calm, cool dragoness and I’m the fiery blonde” Melina said to the bold wing.
The was a light rumbling growl deep in the dragon’s throat in response. "I am just as bold as you when I want to be. I have words for that woman but they aren't nice.... Did Jack say if she's just here temporarily for the project?"
“He diddnt say, I don’t know, just she hasn’t changed one bit since we last met, it is frustrating” Melina said.
"I understand Mel. She seems like a.... an awful person," she said. "She likes to annoy you and get under your skin. It's like she thinks it's a game or something."
Melina nodded lightly.
“Wont be when I punch her lights out” she said to Zyra as a wave of anger seemed to hit Zyra through the link like a wave as the professor seemed to be in her fiery mood.
"Hey, none of that," chided Zyra in a teasing fashion. "I don't want us getting kicked out... as satisfying as that would be to witness though..."
Melina smiled slyly.
“You seen me do it before, I also know more than when I was in Japan, I assure you I wont have a broken nose” the professor said.
"Oh, Mel," said Zyra, giving the woman's forehead a lick in attempts to soothe her mood. "We're going to start dropping you into the middle of battle to kick everyone's ass instead of us if you keep that up."
Melina chuckled lightly.
“I think a high intensity flight and yoga is needed, do you agree doctor?” she asked.
"Sounds like a plan to me. Meet you in the flight hangar?" Asked the dragoness.
Melina nodded.
“Get your wings warmed up, were flying fast” the professor said, a challenging tone in her voice.
"I'm always ready for a fast flight. I hope you are," smiled the bold wing.
“I like a challenge” smiled Melina as she went off to get changed into her flying gear, sensing Zyra was up for it, perhaps doing some fast flying would help rid them of this negative energy and try and start the day on a more positive note.

Zyra and Melina had gone out for just over an hour, speeding through a clouded sky, diving and looping as they tried to leave the stress of the day far below them.
The dragoness flew as fast as she could, feeling Melina crouch low over her back to reduce dragon. Together they races across the grounds until the dragon’s wings demanded rest.
Finally Zyra took them back and landed in the hanger, breathing hard as she came to a stop.
"Amazing speed and skill Zy, I swear you gotten faster" the professor said.
"Yeah?" Panted the dragoness, kneeling to let Melina dismount. "I wish we had someone here to rival me like Tarok did. That race was exciting and it's always more fun when there's a challenger involved." She half laughed between breaths.
Melina laughed lightly.
"Now who is being competitive? Well technically we have a challenger for you," Melina said.
"Who?" Asked Zyra, taking off her harness before hanging it up on the pegs next to Ardon’s. The sleek black leather was accented by the bright glinting silver buckles. Melina always ensured it was kept in top form for the dragoness.
"Well, the red racer of course, granted he can’t fly but he is wickedly fast on the ground" Melina said.
“Hmm,” hummed Zyra, considering the other dragon for a moment, "That's true. I couldn’t believe how fast he was on the beach but I don't think he'd be able to keep up to me though," she said with a slight smile as she followed Melina out of the hangar. She trotted next to her with her head held high and a sly smile on her face. She secretly loved her reputation as being the fastest dragon on earth and she wasn’t quite ready to admit that she had some serious competition. Tarok had been close, nearly beating her due to his ability to take turns on a dime.
Melina gave a sly look.
"Challenge him and find out?" she said sensing Zyra was thinking about it, "In a friendly way..." she added.
"What? I'm always friendly..." said Zyra, pretending to sound offended as they walked past

"I know, I’m only teasing, he may surprise you queen of speed," Melina said.

"Perhaps. We'll see. Anyway... are you feeling about better after a flight?" She asked.
"Yes, thank you Zyra, bit of yoga and I be ok," the professor said.
“Well let’s head down there then,” said Zyra with a slight smile, happy that Mel was feeling a little better. The dragoness was normally calm and collected but having someone forced into their team that Mel didn’t get along with was making things difficult. It was hard not to feed off that anger through the link.
Zyra let out a breath, not wanting to dwell on anything negative and paced along beside her Attilu down to the lower level where the yoga studio was.
Down in the beautiful room the two of them went through the motions of their routine, focusing on breathing and blocking out anything other than what they were doing. A good hour went by before Zyra had a feeling that they were being watched.
In a modified warriors pose, the dragoness turned her head to see Ardon in the doorway, looking like he was nearly standing on his head, a goofy upside down grin stretched across his face.
Zyra giggled lightly as she looked at him, his smile broadening as he was finally noticed.
Melina sensed something through the link, puzzled at her dragon’s feelings but looked to see Ardon showing off and she smiled to herself.
The gold got back on all fours and sauntered towards them.
"What do you want?" asked Zyra as Ardon trotted in.
"I wanted to know if you guys want to come to the pools with Vonriir, Rift and I? We're taking a break and having a swim." the gold asked them both, trotting a circle around them playfully even as Melina tried to finish her last few moves.
"That be a great idea, once we finished yoga, we usually end on a complicated move together, then I think a dip in the pool be great" the professor said.
“Yeah, when we’re finished,” added Zyra, moving into her favourite challenging pose. She set her right forepaw on the ground and shifted her weight forward. Slowly she lifted up her hindquarters up into the air, balancing her whole weight upon the one planted paw.
The more she practiced the less she shook and she was finding this modified crow pose more and more easy to step into and it was obvious that the dragoness was enjoying showing off.
Ardon watched, impressed and did his best not to stare but a silly smile was sneaking its way across one side of his muzzle.
"Oh Zy," Melina said to herself seeing what she was doing.
The two of them had taken to brief bursts of coy flirtatiousness but this was the boldest and least hidden attempt that the woman had witnessed yet. They had always been rather reserved with such things but this was something new.
"Did you know Ardy, that Zy here can hold this pose for well over 5 minutes," Melina said giving Zyra teasing smile.
Zyra turned her head and gave Melina a look that Ardon couldn't see. Her expression read ‘are you kidding me!’ before she turned back and swiveled in a beautifully elegant way that looked closer to dance than yoga, "Well now that the pool offer is there I see no need for 5 minutes here with the blood rushing to my head," she laughed, standing on all four paws again and poking at Melina with her tail to put her off balance.
Mel grinned but kept her balance against the pushing.
"Just because I can do it and you can’t Doctor, as your Attilu I got to be good at something," Melina replied, keeping her pose just to wind Zyra up.
Ardon laughed, “You both are good at standing upside down, anyway come on before Vonriir sloshing all the water out of the pool again.
Zyra and Melina quickly rolled up their mats before heading down the hall where the steam rose from the pool rooms.
As Zyra followed Ardon into the wide room, Veyron looked up from the edge of the pool and looked rather unimpressed. Vonriir was already chest deep into the warm water as Rift patrolled the edges.
“Great,” muttered the wraith, sitting up a little not to be overwhelmed by the waves that the gold made when getting in.
“Hello, Zyra, Ardon. You made it,” beamed Vonriir.
“We wondered if you were coming after all,” said Rift, circling the stone around the outside of the main pool.
“Of course. Wouldn’t miss it,” Smiled Zyra, dipping into the water. It was heaven after a hard flight and a busy yoga session. She smiled as the water swirled around her scales.
Melina walked out of the human changing rooms in her bold wing swim gear and smiled as the others were there.
"Hey Veyron, why you looking unhappy?" she asked the wraith.
"I wanted to get away from the noise, not have it follow me down," he said dryly.
"Well, I am sorry about that, but you should of known Ardy would bring the dragons to the dragon pool," Melina said
“There should be a reservation list,” grumbled Veyron. Behind him, on the rocky ledge of the pool sat a glass half full of something.
“Oh Veyron what has got you in such a mood?” chided Zyra as she rested along the side wall.
Ardon was about to tease him and say that it was because Asuka was no longer there but before he could get a word out Rift jumped into the pool, having jumped off Vonriir’s side.
The resulting wave splashed everyone but Veyron was quick to cover his drink with his wing.
Rift burst up at the surface with a gasp and a laugh, letting out a half of a started roar as Ardon pounced on him. The tomfoolery had begun. Apart from Vonriir, Ardon was the largest dragon at the facility and he proved that by tackling Rift in the water. The spine-back used his tail to swat water at the gold, crowing with laugher.

Hitteki grinned and took a running jump into the pool, having finally appeared in the spring room.
"Syrian cannonball!" Melina laughed as the female made a splash.
Zyra shielded Melina from the splash with a wing and shook her head, smiling.
Now with two on one, Ardon swung around and dunked Hitteki under the water before turning to have Rift launch himself out of the water like a crocodile and grab the gold’s neck, trying to drag him down into the water.
"Uh oh… Rift needs bold wing back up" Melina said nudging Zyra lightly.
Zyra laughed and hesitated a moment but knew that Ardon wasn’t going to let the others win without a fight. The Boldwing swam forward and laughed, seeing the chaos in the middle of the pool.
Veyron hopped out of the pool to sit behind Melina and use her as a shield for any incoming waves. "I think I'm going to get a hot tub installed in my room," he said, sipping his drink while the others churned up the water.
"Oh Veyron, learn to have a little fun" Melina said as she chuckled at the antics.
“I do have fun,” he protested lightly.
Vonriir chuckled at the nonsense as the other younger dragons ganged up on Ardon, trying to sink the gold. He moved back, giving them more room for their lake battle. Water sloshed up on the stone decking and rain down the drains to be cycled back into the pool.
Zyra suddenly jumped at Ardon’s back and pulled backwards as the others tried to dunk him.
"Hey! No fair!" Laughed Ardon. Head still above the water, but now he really had to fight from going under.
Hitteki saw a moment and pounced on Ardon, the Syrian female seemed in the midst of the madness.
Finally the gold went under with a cheer from the others.
“Well done, well done,” laughed Vonriir, slapping the water with a large paw.
Ardon came back up to the surface and blew out a breath through his nose, sending a small spray of water upward.
“Yeah, well done it took THREE of you to take me down,” he grinned as the water finally settled after the bout.
“Yeah don’t get too cocky there, Ardy, it didn’t take us too long and we’re all smaller than you,” laughed Zyra.
“If we had Comox you wouldn’t have stood a chance,” grinned Rift.
"Speaking of Co, where is he? Hitteki, have you seen him?" Zyra asked the Syrian dragoness. She knew that the little green dragoness was often found following the male Boldwing about. She wouldn’t be surprised if she kept tabs on him.
"I am not sure, I think he is busy in the computer labs," Hitteki replied.
“Baxter put him in charge while he’s on holiday,” explained Ardon as he floated around the middle of the pool.
“Good for him. He’s done rather well being taught by professor Greene,” said Vonriir, happy for Comox’s success.
“Doing well for a pair of geeks,” Veyron piped up.
“Oh Veyron, knock it off. Comox is doing a wonderful job,” Zyra defended the male, chiding the wraith.

Melina soon got out the pool to dry off and soon went to get changed as the dragons began to come out and dry themselves with the large towels provided.
Once Melina had changed and the dragons were now coming out of the pool Melina smiled lightly as the dragons spoke to one another.
“So Doctor, you going to ask him?” Melina asked the bold wing.
"Pardon?" Asked Zyra as she towelled off her horns.
Melina gave Zyra a look.
“Rift, you going to challenge him to a race, land v Sky, epic battle” Melina said using her hands to emphasise the title.
Zyra laughed lightly, "I’m not sure... maybe?"
Melina laughed, finding the bold wing’s hesitation after showing off to Ardon only a few hours ago, Zyra seemed to go back to her more reclusive demeanour.
“Well, I understand I mean, he could probably beat you paws down, you don’t want your reputation ruined by a youngster” Melina said with a sly smile.
"Hey!" Zyra protested, dropping her towel on Melina's head.
Melina laughed lightly, taking the towel off her head and putting it in the dirty towels bin.
“Oh Zyra, showing off to Ardon, yet you run back to your shell when I mention it, you said you wanted a challenger, you got one here, now you hesitate, are you a BOLD wing or a BOLD chicken” Melina teased.
"I wasn't showing off. Besides, Rift is new. I don't want his first experience being earth side to be him losing at something," she said, trying to defend herself.
Melina shook her head.
“He be honoured to try, he still young and willing to please, he accept and when he wins….” The professor said continuing the teasing.
"Ooh you're mean today..." said Zyra, trying to hide a smile as she pushed Melina's shoulder with her nose.
Melina pushed Zyra’s muzzle away and stuck her head up as she walked off back to their quarters, not waiting for the doctor, the human was in a playful mood now it seems.
The dragoness trotted after her, "I can't keep winning against the boys with everything. I have to let them think they're the best at something," she laughed.
“Oh you wuss, just admit it, you are a bold chicken” she teased as they entered their quarters together.
"I'm not a chicken. You'd be a sorry attilu if you had a chicken as a guardian," said Zyra as she circled her bed and settled down in it.
Melina chuckled and shook her head as she went to get her lab coat and uniform on for today’s work.
“You going to rest here or coming to work in the labs, we got a few things to do” Mel asked as she put her lab coat on.
"Oh, I forgot," said Zyra, getting back up again regretfully. She didn't realize how lovely it was to lay down after her active day. "Let's go then."
Melina nodded as the two of them went to work in the labs, the professor wanted to make progress on a few areas and experiments, perhaps to keep her mind active instead of worrying about Monroe.

Rift had competed his training for the day and had been left to his own devices. He had made his way to jacks office and knocked on the door, hoping the commander was in.
Jack was working in his office as Ardon went about his duties, using the quiet to do reports and think of how to deal with the rift between Holtan and the other members of the team.
Jack looked up to see the red racer there, he smiled and gestured for him to come in, his office was big enough to accommodate the smaller dragons but not Vonriir or Forge and soon Ardon would be too big to come inside.
“Hello there Rift, you doing ok?” he asked the dragon kindly.
"Yeah I am. Thanks." Said the dragon, sitting down in front of the desk. "I had a question for you though. Ardon said that I could get my pass to go outside soon possibly."
Jack nodded lightly.
“Yes, Ardon said you been taught you the basics and the guardian code, along with the rules here that we follow for the academy, I cannot see a reason why not, we can authorise that in a day or so for you” Jack said checking the list Ardon had completed.
Rift smiled at that. "That's great. The others keep telling me about the world out there and I'm excited to see it. I'm also wondering... do you think that there might be a role for me here?"
Jack smiled lightly.
“Rift, you almost certainly do, we encourage any dragon regardless to be the best they can be, in fact in the next few days there is a training exercise and I think it be a great way to show your speed and skills” Jack said.
Rifts eyes brightened at this. "Oh really? What kind of training?"
"You will see, but I think it be good for all dragons to hone their skills, plus you get to see how the dragons all work as a team" Jack said
"Plus I think it gives Melina a chance to see how fast you run and you want to impress her" he added with a wink, knowing the professor and Zyra would be very interested in clocking his speed.
Rift laughed lightly, "okay, sounds great, Commander Harkness. Thank you!"
Jack smiled lightly.
“No problem Rift, we are a dragon academy but be good to show us your skills here, this training exercise will be a good place to showcase your skills, we know your super fast and agile” Jack replied back.
"I do have a few other talents I'm sure. But we will see how I do during the training," smiled the dragon. "Thanks again for giving me a chance here."
Jack smiled.
“Keep working hard and you make a fine guardian dragon, your gelling with the team but of course dragons of similar age, bar our gentle giant but he is an asset to us, Veyron is ok just watch yourself with him” Jack said.
Rift grinned at that, "oh I've been told all about him and I've already had an interaction or two. Hitteki said not to trust a word he says though"
Jack gave a light nod.
“Hitteki is a good Lass, feisty, hard working and a warrior female, but Syrians and Wraith’s which is what Veyron breed is do not get on as well, so while I say listen to Hitteki, remember there is some bias there Rift, Veyron is alright once you get to know him but yes he is scouting, spying and reconnaissance “ Jack explained, wanting to sort of bring a neutral perspective on it.
Rift nodded slowly, understanding. "Okay. I did sense some animosity between them but he doesn't seem all that bad."
“There has been some issues with those two but she is more tolerable but we had to set rules for her, but overall most of the dragons get on well, you stick with Ardon and the others like Zyra, Hitteki and Comox, you wont go far wrong” Jack said.
Rift smiled, "I will, sir. They've been great teachers so far."
“I am glad they are teaching you well, if you need any further support or anything please come speak to me or Ardon, or anyone really” Jack said to the red racer.
Rift nodded and stood up, "I will. Thanks again for talking with me. I look forward to the training coming up. I'll see you soon." He said with a smile before disappearing from the room.

Hitteki had gone looking for the male bold wing, he was not a the pool and usually he would be with Ardon and the others, she soon ended up walking into Professor Baxter’s lab where the team was hard at work with a number of things, with Comox working in the one corner.
Comox looked up from the computer screen he was sitting in front of and spotted the dragoness. Too late to hide now he lifted his head, "Hey Hitteki. Looking for something?"
Hitteki came over and smiled.
“Hello there, wondered where you got to, you missed the pool tomfoolery where 3 of us dunked Ardon under water” she said.
"You got him huh?" Asked Comox with a small smile. "I've been busy up here. Have to ensure things are running properly."
Hitteki nodded lightly, looking around.
“I see, a big responsibility professor Baxter putting you in charge, he should of done it a bit sooner as your really clever and know human technology” the dragoness said as she sat on her haunches tail at her side.
"Um, thanks. It's been an interesting journey... learning all this stuff I guess," replied Comox.
Hitteki smiled and got up.
“Well do not work too hard, come around and say hi to us, I am sure you got this place running well, speak soon guardian Comox” Hitteki said before leaving.
Comox let out a breath, watching her leave before turning back to his screen, wondering why she had come up to the labs.
Soon the big hanger bay doors opened as the Valkyrie squadron lowered down, Avalon piloted by Martina moved a bit forward as the fighter landed elegantly as the engines powered off, another patrol done and dusted for the day.
Vonriir made his usual trip down to the hangar to greet his Attilu when she return from her patrol.
He waited out of the way, smiling as he spotted her. "Good Morning, Martina!"
Martina opened the cockpit door and smiled, seeing the giant crag back meet her at the hanger, the other pilots waved as they went off to change and head home.
"Morning Vonriir, i thought you were going down to the pool" she said getting out of the cockpit and checking the outside of the ship.
"I wouldn't miss welcoming you back from patrol,". He said, "how was it?"
Martina smiled lightly, looking up at the massive crag back.
“Quiet morning, patrolling, nothing really major happening, we stopped off at an RAF base and just had a talk with the commander’s there but other than that, all pretty good” Martina said.
"That's good. Do you have any other responsibilities to attend to today?" he asked her.
Martina shook her head.
“No, only one patrol today and on standby with the other guys, we are a small unit but they all having a shower and heading home” Martina explained.
"Ah I see," said Vonriir. "When you're ready would you like to come down to the canteen with me for lunch?" he offered.
The woman nodded lightly.
“Yes, that be lovely, I do need to wash up and all first, lunch then some reports to do, we might even get some flying in as well” she winked at Vonriir.
"Id like that," the large dragon smiles, gesturing with his paw for her to lead the way out of the hangar.
Martina walked along with the massive behemoth of a dragon on their way back to their quarters as she walked along, she took in Vonriir’s massive form.
“Professor Melina had said you were looking very fine and trim, she said even Forge mentioned it, must be all the flying, walking to the hanger and splashes in the pool” she said with a grin.
Vonriir chuckled, "Perhaps. Melina is kind to say so though."
“Well, I trust her judgement, she knows far more than me, I really need to do more dragon studies, I do feel my role as squadron leader does hinder that a bit” she admitted to the crag back.
"Well, I am a dragon. What do you think that you need to know? I might have an answer or two for you," he chuckled.
Martina smiled.
“Well, you only eat one big meal a day, ok and a snack or two but is that sufficient for a dragon your size? Also do I need to polish your scales like I’ve seen Jack and Melina do?, we need a ton of polish” Martina joked lightly.
Vonriir smiled at this, "One: I get more than enough food to keep me going. Two: my scales are rougher compared to the others. They don't need to be polished. A good scrub now and then but they wont shine. Crag back scales after all."
Martina nodded lightly at hearing these words as they approached their shared quarters.
“Looks like I got a proper working horse dragon, its always amazing for me to think I am bonded to you” she said.
"I think the same every day," beamed the large dragon.

Jack was working on his laptop and getting reports done when the lights dimmed and he looked up to see Holtan waiting at his door, Jack gestured for the man to enter once he turned off lights there were not controlled by the computer system.
“Sub Commander, nice to see you from the lower levels, what brings you here” Jack asked closing his laptop.
The man approached and sat down, looking at Jack.
“I think it is fair to say that, the reveal of the Jeffries has caused some tension within the team, especially with the two professors” Holtan said as Jack nodded.
“Yes, there has been a fair bit of tension along with your reluctance to allow Baxter to help or Comox with the Alcubierre drive” Jack said putting his hands together and resting them on the desk.
Holtan seemed to lift his chin up, looking up at Jack.
“I know, women right?, to hold a grudge, but we must admit these two are smart, clever and a fiery nature” Holtan said as Jack gave a small smile.
“What is it your after Holtan?”
“I like to be more involved in the security and utilizing the dragons, I hear you got an exercise planned, perhaps I can be of some use, I am security after all” the man said as Jack tried to work out what the man wanted.
“Mark has taken over, to give you time to work on the Jeffries along with Monroe and your small team, what has got you interested” Jack asked.
Holtan seemed to be calm and collected as he replied.
“Well, I like to be more involved, in return I can see what your dragons are like, let me write the scenario for the training you got planned, put in some interesting challenges and see how your dragons react” Holtan said as Jack thought about it.
The man put a fortune cookie on Jack’s desk, making Jack look at it briefly as Holtan nodded.
“Decide on the future and cooperation we can have together, perhaps heal the rift we got in the team” Holtan said as he left the office and soon the lights returned to normal.
Jack reached and picked up the fortune cookie, breaking it in two to see the message inside…
“What does our future hold?” it said as Jack seemed to ponder the request.

“I’m Australian?” Asked Rift, reading off the tablet that Ardon had just handed him. They had been studying in the dragon hangar after their break in the pools with the others.
“Yes, that’s where your origin story will say you’re from,” Explained the gold, tapping the screen with a talon. “So you’ll need to learn and memorize all of that for when you have your first public appearance.”

Rift nodded, he had been told all about the fake backstories all the dragons had been given in his earlier training. It did seem a bit odd to him that the world did not know of Kilara or that there was a whole planet of dragons out there but he knew that he couldn’t protest. It was for the safety of their organization and of every dragon on Kilara.
He sat back on his haunches and swiped through the many different pages. The EA had a number of specific things they needed to adhere to and ensure they didn’t have any conflicting stories.
“In that file there you’ll see all the tabs at the top. First one is your origin story. Second will be your ‘public handler’ when Jack finds you an appropriate person or you get bonded. Third is just a huge file about facts you might have to know if anyone asks about your origins and such. So make sure you read it back to front and have it committed to memory.”
“Alright,” said the spine-back, flicking through the tabs and giving it a quick skim, deciding he would get into the reading later. “Where are the rest of you from?”
“That’s on the last tab. I’m from here, Forge is Canadian, out of their Rockies, a mountain range there. Zyra and Comox are from Southern Brazil. Vonriir is from Norway. Hitteki is ... well you can read all their own origin stories in the back there. The only one who doesn’t have one is Veyron. He’s our… ghost I guess. It’s handy keeping him secret and he prefers it that way anyway.”
“Must be hard keeping track of everything…” replied Rift, looking at all the information. “You seem to know it all though.”
“It’s not that bad once you read it a few times and besides, I’ve been here the longest so I’ve had longer to memorize these things. Oh, we also converted your hatch day to an earth date because for some reason everyone is interested in knowing that too. Yours actually turned out to be earths New Year’s day, so January 1st.”
“Is that good?” asked the red dragon.
“I think it’s a great omen,” grinned Ardon, “Anyway, you wanna go topside and see the grounds now that you have your clearance?”
“Yeah!” grinned the spine-back, putting down the tablet on the table.
“Alright, let’s go,” said Ardon, leading the red dragon to the back of the dragon hangar.

Ardon opened the doors above and almost leapt into the air when he remembered that Rift did not possess wings. “There, stand on the platform. It’s a lift.”
“What?” asked Rift, stepping onto the square section that was slightly different than the rest of the floor. Rift stood beside him and pressed a button on the wall and suddenly the floor was moving. Rift’s claws dug into the surface as they were slowly lifted by the hydraulic system.
“Oh, LIFT,” Rift laughed, feeling silly that he had been spooked.
Ardon just grinned and soon enough they came come to the top. Rift stepped out onto the grass, and flexed his talons on the soft ground. It had rained fiercely earlier that morning and the ground was cool and damp though now the clouds had parted somewhat and there was a bright streak of sun trying to pierce through.

“I’m allowed anywhere here?” asked the spine-back, looking around.
“Yes, the base has around a hundred acres it owns around it to give us a little secrecy and privacy. The rest beyond is mostly farms and small towns. There is a small ‘fence’ of sorts all the way around the grounds. It emits a high frequency noise. Dragons can hear it but humans cant. It’s part of our security system so that we can tell if anyone ever tries to get close to the base. You’ll know when you’re close to the edge. There’s a creek that runs through, and it’s sheltered by trees and shrubs. We often head out that way in the summer to relax.”
Rift took in a deep breath and trotted forward, looking at the alien world around him and taking in the scents.
Ardon stepped forward but paused, seeing Rift seem to freeze momentarily before his shoulders hunched, tail rose and suddenly he launched forward. The red dragon set off in a canter, testing the ground with his paws as he set off towards the east. As he began to turn his speed picked up as he approached a gallop. Ardon watched, amazed by the speed of this young dragon but even now he wasn’t in a full sprint, holding himself back for some reason.
The spine-back turned again and raced back to Ardon, skidding to a showy stop on the wet grass.
“Like lightning!” laughed the gold.
“That’s nothing,” said Rift, panting lightly, “I don’t want to wipe out going full tilt. The ground is too wet.”
“Fair enough. We should get the odometer speed reader thing that we have hooked up and see how fast you actually go one day.”
“You have a machine that can tell that?” asked the red dragon.
“Yeah, the humans have everything. Come on, I’ll show you the creek.” Said Ardon, breaking out into a run, he had no chance at keeping up to Rift on the ground like this but he didn’t often run for any great length of time and it would be good to use those muscles every now and then. Rift grinned and kept pace with the gold, asking about all the things he saw around them.

It was later that evening when Ardon had sauntered off to Jack’s office in hopes to find the man and drag him off to the canteen for dinner. He nosed his way into the room and smiled.
"Hey Jack, still in here?" asked the gold as he padded into the office.
"Yup, all the paperwork is done or interactive online paperwork done and now I'm free for food" Jack smiled as he got up from his desk.
Ardon beamed and was about to lead the way when he saw the fortune cookie sitting on the corner of the man’s desk, "Ooh you going to eat that?" he asked, grabbing it.
"Well...you can have it if you want" Jack said offering the cookie to him.
Ardon didn't think twice and crunched it with a satisfying crack. The fortune paper, held between his teeth was now offered to the man, "What's my fortune say?"
"It says fortune favours the bold. Interesting line."
"Boring" said Ardon, taking the fortune back and it disappeared in his jaws just like to cookie, "Come on, I'm STARVING." he said, pushing the man towards the door with his nose.
Jack look surprised, "You’re not kidding, paper and all down your gullet and stop being so pushy". Jack said.
Ardon grinned and did just the opposite, pushing the man down the hallway with his muzzle, his paws kicked up in a playful trot behind him as they sped off to the canteen for dinner.

The next few days the dragons continued with training Rift with his back story and other things that
Needed doing around the academy, it was routine business with Melina able to get some of her work done without worrying about Monroe who was busy in the lower levels with the USS Jeffries.
The next morning Jack entered the canteen carrying a tablet, he looked to where the dragons were, by luck there was the gang having breakfast.
He smiled and approached, eager to pass on the news, Holtan had suggested that they become familiar with the airbase where the exercise would be carried out.
“Hello gang, glad I got you all here, saves me having a meeting in the academy” Jack said as the dragons looked up to see the man.
"Hey jack," smiled Zyra and the others greeted the man.
"Hello commander," said Rift.
Jack smiled and looked to see most of the dragons were there, this was good rather than go hunting down for them, even Veyron was there.
“Glad your all here, I wanted to just say obviously you know about the big exercise that is going on, well before that, we want you to be familiar with the area and all, so we be going there to scout out the area, a large airfield just on the outskirts of our lands owned by us, its all cleared for our use” Jack said to the dragons.
"This should be interesting," said Vonriir.
"I'm out," scoffed Veyron, taking a sip of coffee.
Jack smiled.
“Actually Veyron, you are requested not to go on this run until the real exercise, sub Commander Holtan is going to be joining me in coming up with the exercise and we want to utilise Veyron’s cloak and dagger skills so we like to keep it a surprise” Jack said.
“Oh, that is strange he is getting involved” Hitteki commented.
"The less I have to do the happier I am," said Veyron, jumping on Hitteki's head. "The grunts here can do all the labour."
Hitteki frowned lightly, feeling the wraith upon her head.
“Your suppose to be our scout and recon dragon, a lazy one at that, I think Mark should replace you” Hitteki said.
“Come on Hitteki no squabbling please, if Veyron doesn’t want to go then that is fine, I let Mark know, I am sure he appreciates the help with all the security and filing work he has to do for this”. Jack replied.
Veyron let out a reluctant noise and waved his hand. "Whatever. I'll see what you have in mind then decide?"
Jack seemed to sense the wraith was not too keen but going with an easier option.
“Well I have to speak to Holtan, he said he did not want you there yet, the real exercise he like you there as scout but for now probably not” Jack replied.
"Yeah yeah I get it. I didn't miss that part. Probably wants me to go in without any idea so he can see what I can really do. I hope he's prepared to be impressed." Said the wraith casually.
Hitteki snickered as she whispered to Ardon.
“Hope he set the bar low or he be disappointed” the Syrian said.
Ardon snorted, "I guess we'll see."
Jack spoke again about the dragons who would be going.
“Ok, we be visiting there in a few hours, Ardon, Zyra, Rift and Hitteki you be coming along, Vonriir you will come along as well but you wont be part of Ardon’s team, along with Martina, we explain more later, but could you give Rift a lift at all?” Jack asked.
"Certainly can," nodded the big dragon.
"Vonriir Airline," laughed Ardon.
Jack smiled.
“Don’t be teasing Ardy or you be taking Rift, you need to work those wing muscles of yours” Jack teased the gold.
Ardon grinned, "Oh I could manage. Anyway. I'm interested to see how this will all play out. Hopefully Holtan will be impressed."
Hitteki at the gold saying he could carry the young red spine back.
"Well, its up to Rift, do you want to fly budget air or luxury air" Hitteki joked as the team chuckled and even Jack laughed a little at the Syrians joke.
"Wait? Which one am I?" Protested Ardon.
Jack grinned.
“Well what do you think” teased the man as the gold seemed to be protested as professor Melina walked in, over hearing the conversation.
"Well gold is always considered a luxury," said Ardon, puffing himself up with a smile as Zyra shook her head and laughed.
Jack laughed lightly.
“Ok, well keep the afternoon free and we head there, Vonriir Martina is on patrol but she will be joining us when we are there” Jack explained.
"Alright. I don't mind taking Rift up either," said they large dragon.
“I think it be best, anyways I see you all in a few hours” Jack said as Melina sat down next to her dragoness and smiled.
The professor had heard about the exercise, once Jack and Holtan had come up with the scenario, Melina would be briefed but she was a little excited for it.
“Be interesting, I am actually excited about this exercise” Melina admitted to the bold wing.
"Me too. It's nice to have the whole team involved too." Said Zyra.
“Rift looks excited to be involved, I heard Ardon showing off but if he grows more, he’s going to be bigger than Forge” Melina said.
"Jack will really be thankful for the bolstered food budget if that happens and ardy continues to eat like he does now." Laughed Zyra.
Melina smiled lightly.
“I agree but it is good for you as well Zy, I think it shows, be interesting to see how you compare to your wild counterparts” Melina said, referring to the bold wings on Ibantu continent.
"Did you ask for the time off for us yet?" Asked Zyra.
Melina smiled.
“Yes, all booked and we got a shuttle too to take us, well I get to pilot it” Melina said, a little proudly.
"You're going to do great this time," teased the dragoness. "You were awesome last time but hopefully this round one be too stressful.
Melina smiled lightly at the bold wing.
“Well, its just to cross the endless sea, then dragon back but if I can land it in bold wing territory I feel it be safer” Melina said.
"Of course. We can fly all the way to the islands I'm sure." Said Zyra. "In any case you have me. I'll protect you."
Melina nodded.
“I doubt I be a target, unless you think I will be, I left in good terms with your brother’s clan” Melina said.
“Though I do not fancy carrying a gun or anything, I’m sort of a little shaky with those things” she added.
The professor was not keen on having a weapon with her, at the end of the day she was a medical officer not really military trained despite knowing how to use a gun.
"You won't need one unless you really want to bring one as backup. We will be fine. My old clan won't let anything happen." Promised Zyra.
Melina nodded lightly.
“I know, thanks Zy” Melina said as she smoothed the bold wing on the muzzle as they continued to have their breakfast, but soon Sam approached Melina, who looked up and smiled.
“You have a visitor waiting in the labs, don’t worry its not Monroe, Sub commander Holtan” the man said, the professor looked surprised.
“Oh, ok I go now, coming Zyra?” she asked.
Zyra quickly put down her cup of tea and got up, following her Attilu out with one backwards glance at the others before disappearing around the corner
They approached the labs with the lights were off, Melina seemed to look around for the man but there was no sign of him.
“Perhaps he popped out, we wait for him inside” Melina said as they entered the lights came onto full brightness.
“Ahh!, god dammit! Lights woman!” came an irritated voice who had covered their face with their arm, taking Melina by surprise, seeing Sub Commander Holtan there with his tablet sat at one of the tables.
“Oh, computer activate program Holtan one” Melina said and the lights dimmed, allowing the man to remove his arm from his face and blinked a few times as he seemed more comfortable.
"We have the lights dimmed now, sir," said Zyra as they lost their bright tone.
Melina was a bit less polite in her response.
“Next time don’t hang round in a nearly pitch-black room sub commander, Sam said you were waiting outside, I normally like to keep the place secure” the professor said.
“Yeah, he let me in and I said I’d wait, bad move it seems” Holtan said now able to look at the professor and Zyra.
Melina smiled lightly as she got her lab coat on which was hanging up in a cloakroom, she then gave Holtan a curious look.
“So what can I do for you Sub Commander” she said politely.
The man looked up at Melina and gave a coy smile in return.
“I should of done it a long time ago but I like an examination of the extent to the damage done to my eyes, I diddnt at the time want people to treat me but with this exercise coming up, I do require to be more useful in bright light” the man said.
"Oh," said Zyra quietly, surprised that he had come to Melina with this. "You'll be in the best hands with Professor Goodwin." She assured him kindly.
“I have heard” Holtan said as Melina smiled lightly.
“Please this way then sir, Zy can you bring the eye examination equipment and bring your mobile work station to make notes” Melina said to the bold wing.
"Yes of course," said Zyra. She soon returned with ball the necessary items on her rolling station and set them off to the side within reach.
“Ok Holtan, lets have a look try to relax” Melina said as the man sat down and Melina inspected his eyes, she was methodical in her work but it soon become apparent there was damage done there and it was a bit shocking for the professor.
Zyra's own sharp eyes caught sight of the extensive damage. She winced inwardly as the extent of his light sensitivity was tested. 'Oh how I wish I could heal with only a touch' she thought to herself.
Once the professor put the equipment back, Holtan could see the professors reaction and the dragoness expression as well.
“I can assume from your expressions that it is pretty bad” the man said.
"It's... well. It's rather extensive," admitted Zyra reluctantly.
Melina agreed with the dragons assessment of the situation, the man’s eyes were damaged quite a bit.
“I wont like, it is pretty bad, I must say, leaving it so long hasn’t helped, I am surprised you are not blind” the professor said, she looked at Zyra.
“Doctor when the results transfer over use the computer to suggest if any treatments we can do perhaps, I am wondering if there is anything we can do” the professor said.
"If anyone can do something about this it's you," said Zyra, her tone serious but confident.
Holtan got up and looked at the two of them.
“I assume you need a bit of time to come up with something if anything?” he asked.
Melina turned back to look at Holtan.
“Yes, give us a bit of time, for now I suggest shades and keeping all lights on dim, no exposure to bright light” the professor said.
“Ok, thank you ladies” Holtan said as he left, Melina looked at Zyra and shook her head.
“How on earth did he get damage that severe, how he isn’t blind is beyond me, he should have had treatment ages ago, it is pretty bad” Melina admitted.
"Do you think you will be able to do something to correct it?" Asked Zyra. "I wonder if he'd be willing to tell us how it happened. Maybe knowing would help us figure out how to fix it."
Melina seemed to look a little apprehensive.
“He’s kept himself to himself sop far, I doubt he want us delving further, I think we could come up with a neutralizer or something to stimulate the eye a bit so his sensitivity to light isn’t so much” suggested the professor.
"That sounds like the best first step. See how his eyes react to that and then see if there's a chance and continuing forward with it," nodded Zyra.
Melina agreed with the bold wings suggestion.
“You ok to lead with this Zy?, I can supervise but you can lead onto it doctor, I think you know enough to go forward with it” Melina suggested, her eyes hopeful the bold wing would take this on.
The dragoness gave a small ghost of a smile. "Thank you, I think I can handle it. I can get started now if you have nothing else for me at the moment."
Melina shook her head and smiled.
“We got the airfield visit at 3pm, its 10am now so got a few hours to work on it, I let you crack on with it then we head out there” Melina said.
"Okay sound good Melina," nodded Zyra, turning to her workstation to get started.

A few hours later, Hitteki, Zyra, Vonriir with Rift upon his large back, along with Melina and Jack went to the airfield by air, the large airfield was just on the outskirts of the bases lands, it had been cleared for the exercise planned in 2 weeks time.
Jack had wanted the dragons to see it for an hour to be familiar with the area before the exercise, it indeed would help them plan and be organized.
As they all landed the dragons would see a long stretch of clean and recently resurfaced run way and some hangers for aircraft plus a control tower, the entire perimeter was surrounded by a fence and some CCTV operating at different parts.
“Impressive, must an old RAF airfield” Jack said to Melina.
“Good of them to let us use it for the exercise, I must admit I am excited for it” the professor said.
“Me too” Jack looked back and smiled.
Ardon stood forward and looked up and down the air field, "so I wonder what we're going to do here."
"Something entertaining I guess," replied Zyra.
Hitteki wandered around and examined the place, she could see the empty hanger and could see a few places which could be advantages.
“Be interesting but I noticed plenty of places for turrets to be put and electronic eyes can be placed” Hitteki commented.
Rift took off at a canter down the length of the airfield, scouting across the area they would be training on. Upon his return he sped back every faster and stopped on a dime. "We've got a lot of space to work with," said the dragon, not even breathing hard as he pointed towards the far end.
Hitteki was astonished and so was Melina.
“Your speed is just incredible” Melina said to the red racer and the Syrian female agreed.
“I think you’re the fastest here or indeed the fastest in our branch” Hitteki said.
Really?" Asked Rift with a grin. "What about Zyra though?"
"Fastest in the air," the boldwing said.
"I smell a race on the air!" Smirked Ardon.
Melina gave Zyra a small, sly smile, knowing the gauntlet was being laid down in front of the bold wing.
“That would be interesting to see” Hitteki commented.
Zyra knew that there was no getting around it, "what do you think, rift? Should we test torchwoods air and land speed records one of these days?" She asked the red dragon.
He grinned, "sure!"
Jack heard the conversation and grinned.
“Why not have it now, you got a massive runway, here, biggest private runway, Rift can run on this and Zyra can fly, whoever goes to the end and back to the other end wins” Jack said, laying down the challenge.
Melina smiled and seemed excited as Jack went to stand at the starting line as people cleared the way.
Rift was grinning, excited while Zyra trotted off to the close end of the runway.
"Are we racing or what?" She called over her shoulder.
"Yeah!" Said rift prancing over to her as Ardon laughed and the others gathered to watch.
Soon both dragons were ready, Rift seemed eager and it would indeed be a different kind of race.
"Should I be on the ground or in the air to start?" Zyra asked rift as they stood together on the airstrip.
"Hm," said the red dragon.
"Commander, what do you think?" He asked Jack.
Jack considered it, looking at Melina who wanted a fair race for both the dragons here.
“I think Zyra should be in the air, gives her a running start and rift could do the same so they cross the line at speed to be fair” Melina said.
"Just make sure you cross at the same time," said Ardon.
"We can manage that, right rift?" Asked Zyra.
"Yeah sure!" He replied.
Zyra returned to Mel and dipped her head, "there. You get your race. Happy?" She teased.
Melina smiled.
“You do fine, you nervous?, you did say you wanted a challenge, be careful what you wish for I say” she teased back.
"Yeah. Remembering that phrase now. I better not lose my title, or I'm blaming you," she joked with a lick on the side of Melina's head.
Melina laughed lightly giving her a pat.
“Bring home a win for team bold wing Zy” Melina said as the bold wing returned to the starting point.
The professor watched the bold wing return to starting point, she got a glance of the determination on her face, this meant allot to her and she felt that through the link.

Zyra hovered in the air while Rift rolled his shoulders as they waited for the signal to start. Both sets of eyes were focused on the orange pylon left at the far end of the tarmac. They would have to race to the end and return. The first one to cross the line would be declared the winner.
"This is exciting land verses air" Hitteki said as Jack nodded agreeing.
Melina seemed to bite her lip, wondering if she teased too far and how Zyra would react if she did lose to this young red racer.
“On your mark,” boomed Vonriir, “Get set. Go!”
Rift launched forward like a rocket, tearing off down the tarmac at full speed. His body, built much like a cheetah’s, was made for full out sprints just like this. His tail acted as a counterbalance, adjusting in minute ways to keep the wingless dragon headed straight down the airfield.
Overhead zyra pumped her wings fiercely, hurtling down towards the orange pylon that sat at the end of the tarmac. She had been surprised at how quickly the red dragon got up to speed on foot and she realized that he was keeping pace right underneath her now. Looking down quickly, she saw her shadow sitting over him, giving the spine-back the illusion of shadowy wings.
“Stars above they are fast!” marveled Vonriir, glad he had brought his glasses along.
She heard his sharp intakes of breath as he surged forward. Gritting her teeth the dragoness kicked it up another notch and her wingbeats grew faster as she flew.
With wings and legs in a blur of motion the two of them roared down towards the end of the track while the others cheered them on.
"My word, Rift is fast he’s keeping pace with her," Melina said surprised as Hitteki and Jack also seemed surprised at how fast Rift was.
“Go Zy!” shouted Ardon, seeing her realize she had some serious competition.
The dragons couldn’t hear the cheering, both too focused on the race. The orange pylon raced towards them and below her on the ground Rift had to slow to make it around the cone.
Zyra took this opportunity to repeat a move she had seen Tarok do while flying. She angled up sharply until she was upside down then rolled so that she was facing the right direction and fired off back down the way she came, not looking precious seconds arcing around her usual way.
As she raced back down the track she found herself in the lead by a full length of her body, nose to tail. Her wings kept up the strong pace but she could hear the spine-back racing below her even over the sound of her breathing and rapid pace of her hearts beating.
"Go Zy!" Melina clapped.
"That was a skillful maneuver in the air to take the lead" Hitteki said to Jack who nodded.
"She’s a very skilled flyer indeed."
Rift had caught up again and was racing hard along the tarmac while the Boldwing flew overhead at great speed. The two of them vied for first place but just as one would surge forward the other caught some burst of speed as they rocketed neck and neck down towards the end where the others were standing.
The dragons and humans cheered, Vonriir’s enthusiastic shouts drowned out everything else.
The finish line was quickly approaching and Zyra knew that Rift was close to pulling ahead. The dragoness found some sort of reserved energy and surged forward, crossing the line at the last second just a nose ahead of the red dragon.
She veered right and set her wings into a backstroke to slow down while Rift skidded to a halt before turning around to face the others.
Melina breathed a sigh of relief and Hitteki along with jack cheered for both dragons in a tightly fought race.
"That was a close one!" Rift said, panting hard now that he had returned to the group.
"Yeah," huffed Zyra, landing beside the others, “You… are one… fast dragon.” She laughed.
Rift grinned and sat down, thankful for the break. “You are too.”
“Well done, Zy,” said Ardon with a smile.
"Very close one, I think there was nothing between you two being bluntly honest" Jack said as Melina smiled lightly, relief more than anything.
"It was a real test for both of you, very impressed" Hitteki said with a smile.
“Speed queen reins supreme,” chuckled Vonriir.
Zyra gave a tired flourishing bow and smiled, “Nearly lost the crown there. But I think I’d be willing to share it with you, Rift. Two fastest dragons on all of earth.” She said, Pretending to put an imaginary crown on the spine-back.

Rift grinned, imitating moving it forward on his head, “Deal.”

The group had chatted and made their way back to the facility shortly after that. Zyra, tired as she was had other things on her mind however. No time to nap, she thought and instead she showered and made her way back down to Melina’s labs.
She had an idea in mind in regards to Holtan’s eyes that she wanted to run through the computer.
With the race now won, the dragoness had a new goal to look forward to.

Martina and her squadron was due back from their morning patrol around the Brighton coastline and alone the outskirts of London airspace before returning to Torchwood 5, the hanger doors were opened in anticipation of their arrival back.
Vonriir sat patiently at the edge of the flight hangar and hummed a little tune to himself while he waited for Martina.
He looked up in slight confusion as the lights dimmed before he realized Holtan had joined him.
"Hello Sub Commander. Having a good day, sir?" He asked jovially.
The man had entered the hanger with darkened shades on as the lights dimmed, the sun light entering the hanger from the opened hanger bay doors.
"I need to speak with you two and the pilot team once Martina has landed, for the exercise in 2 weeks" Holtan simply said with a lack of emotion in his words.
Vonriir seemed immune to any sort of harsh words and continued his polite and upbeat tone.
"Oh yes of course. She's just arriving now so she won't be long," replied the large dragon.
"Good, when the exercise begins I want you in your battle harness and battle glasses" Holtan replied.
"That shouldn't be a problem," said Vonriir. "I look forward to this exercise. The younglings are eager to show you what they can do I think."
The man seemed deep in thought.
"So I hear, I also expect you to be a fierce dragon in providing opposition" Holtan said looking up to the massive crag back.
"Opposition?" Inquired Vonriir
Holtan waved his hand to dismiss the suggestion.
"I explain more when Martina arrives and by the sounds of it she’s approaching" Holtan said hearing the engines.
Soon the Valkyrie squadron arrived, hovering over the opening, creating shadows as the fighters lowered down to their respective landing pads, with teams ready to refuel and do post flight checks.
Vonriir looked up as Avalon landed in the hangar. The dragon beamed and greeted his Attilu warmly when she finally appeared out of the cockpit.
"Sub commander Holtan is here to see us, Martina."
Martina seemed surprised to see the elusive man waiting for her, it was indeed odd to see him around as the sound of the large hanger doors closing above them.
"Oh, Sub commander nice for you to greet me at the hanger, I hope Vonriir was on good behaviour" Martina said with a teasing smile.
"I wasn't too unruly," chuckled the dragon.
The Sub Commander ignored the joke and the affection and got down to business as the fighter team gathered.
"I require you all here, this upcoming exercise will be realistic and I want everyone on their game" Holtan said assertively.
"You can count on us fully, Right Von?" Martina said looking up to the dragon.
"Without a doubt," nodded the large cragback.
“Good, because here is what we will be doing, what I tell you is classified and no speaking to the other dragons about it” Holtan said as he explained, Vonriir using his bulk to hide them and lowering his massive head to hear and see the sub commander better.

Meanwhile Melina and Zyra were back in the labs after the race, it had been a very close call and Zyra seemed focussed on her work to help Holtan, utilising her mobile work station.
The professor came over and smiled, giving the dragoness a large custom made cup of herbal tea.
“Calms the mind and soothes those wing muscles” she said offering the drink to the bold wing.
"Mm, thanks Melina," said the dragoness, turning to take the cup in her paws. "Just what I needed."
Melina nodded and sat at the desk.
“He really pushed you didn’t he, like Tarok did, I was worried I had gone a bit too far with the teasing” Melina said with verbal honesty.
"He's fast, that’s for sure. I have a feeling that will come in handy somewhere down the line. He had me worried and even then, I just barely made it," admitted the dragoness.
Melina nodded lightly and was quiet for a moment.
“I know it’s a “Least your still queen of speed, I think Rift takes land speed king” she smiled lightly, “I know being fast is a bold wing trait and you proudly wear the badge” she added.
Zyra laughed lightly, "yeah. I enjoy being the fastest here."
“Just need to bulk you up now to take on Ardon and you grab all the titles” Melina teased lightly as the computer beeped at her.
“Well work to do, keep at it doctor” Melina said.
"No bulking up for me," said Zyra, turning back to her work, "streamlined dragon for you."
She took another sip of her tea and went back to typing.
Melina seemed to have a puzzled look upon her face, looking at an image on the screen, “Zyra, did you put your paw ion the way when you took x ray samples or…Daniel and Martin?” Melina asked.
"No, I am always clear of the machine, why?" Asked the dragoness.
Melina frowned and inspected the image closely.
“Hrmm, I wait and see I think, if not take new X ray shots tomorrow, just to be sure” Melina said to the bold wing.
"What is it though, did something come up strange?" Asked the dragoness
“I am not sure Zy, I check again tomorrow, then see, just weird readings, could be an anomaly or a false reading” the professor said.
"Let's see," replied Zyra, turning to look at what Melina had on the screen.
Melina seemed mock offended as Zyra came with her muzzle to look at the screen.
"Rude" Melina said jokingly as the image showed that the X-rays had not pierced the tissue samples obtained from Daniel and Martin, their bodies frozen in the bases morgue.
"What?" Said Zyra in confusion as she looked at the X-ray. She tried to correct the digital clarity but it yielded the same results so matter what she did. "How could this be?"
Melina shook her head.
“I have no idea, out of any of the differences between Martin A and Martin B is this, the x rays have not pierced through the flesh which is impossible, hence that marking, but it could be an anomaly or issue with the system” Melina suggested possible ideas for what they were seeing.
"I don't think it would be an issue with the system. We did the test runs prior as usual and nothing came up strange... I guess we can take another set tomorrow and see," replied the bold wing.
"Agreed we get samples from both and do it again, we record it all, if same result then...." Melina went quiet.
Zyra looked at her with a concerned expression, wondering if she'd continue that train of thought.
Melina sighed lightly.
“We keep this quiet for now, until we are 100% certain, if this reading is correct, we found a difference, which means these men were copied, no idea how but it could be the only difference in the real people and these copies” Melina said, checking first before she spoke, to ensure no one was listening.
Zyra shuddered at the thought, unable to hold it back. "This whole case makes me feel uneasy. Now this?"
Melina nodded lightly.
“Lets keep it quiet and do it tomorrow, early, lock the lab doors too” Melina suggested to the bold wing.
"Okay, I understand. We'll get it done before most of the base wakes up," she confirmed.

Meanwhile with the canteen quiet and toby busy preparing for lunch Hitteki had taken a spot in the corner to read while it was quiet, finding she enjoyed the human fantasy novels allot and was reading them on her tablet.
Rift trotted into the canteen with a confident air about him. "Hey Hitteki. How are you doing?"
Hitteki looked up and smiled lightly noticing the confident air he had, he looked like a champion race horse.
“There he is, the king of speed, on land anyways, I thought your legs be tired after going at that speed” Hitteki said.
"They aren't bad. My breed runs a lot. I'm used to it," explained the young dragon.
Hitteki gave the red dragon a look.
“I doubt you run at that speed constantly, but indeed it was an impressive show, put yourself in the record books already” Hitteki said, praising the young red.
"Not a bad start for my first month here," laughed the dragon.
Hitteki nodded in agreement.
“Hows the training going, or has Ardon trusted you to your own devices, I must admit I love these devices, their words and writings appear on the screen and I can see the words so much better” Hitteki said.
"Training is going well. So much to learn here. I do like the tablets too. Nothing like it on kilara," nodded rift.
Hitteki agreed.
“No, it is very different indeed” Hitteki said to the red spine back.
Sadly their peace would be spoilt by a small dragon.
"Hey losers," said Veyron, from his lofted walkway above them.
"Veyron, you have special tunnels up there?," asked rift.
"I do. Made just me for to get around," replied the wraith. He made to jump down on Rifts back but the spine back got up as he was in mid-air. He caught one of the black spikes along the red dragon’s spine.
"God damn it! What did you have to go and move for?" He said, standing up and looking at the thin cut on his side. "What the hell?" Veyron stammered suddenly feeling weird.
The wraith then tumbled off rifts back without warning.
"Oh crap!" Exclaimed Rift, turning around to see the wraith face down on the floor.
Hitteki put the tablet down and looked and saw Veyron seemed to face planted onto the floor, Hitteki would find it amusing but had to at least show she cared a little.
“Veyron…Veyron are you ok?” Hitteki said using her paw and lifting him up onto the softer sofa but the wraith felt on, somewhat stiff.
"He's paralyzed. My spines, they have this.... poison in them. It's supposed to protect me from larger dragons or predators. I didn't think I had the ability yet...." said Rift. "Oh I'm sorry, Veyron. I had no idea."
Hitteki seemed concerned, as she conducted a visual inspection, Zyra had taught her dragon first aid and she checked the somewhat stiff dragon.
“His heart is beating and he’s breathing, so it must effected his motor functions, his muscles have seized, including speech it seems” Hitteki said.
The only thing that Veyron could do was move his eyes, furiously back and forth between rift and Hitteki.
"It's not supposed to kill. Just stop an attacker until I can get free.... I should take him to professor Melina." Said rift.
Hitteki listened in and heard it wasn’t fatal, small sliver of a smile came upon her face.
“Wait wait…so this paralysis is temporary? He wont be in any harm, just needs to wear off?” she asked.
"I think so... he is small though. I think so long as he's breathing he's fine?" Rift said, sounding unsure. "I can take him to professor Goodwin just to be sure."
Hitteki pondered this.
“Any guess how long a dragon can be paralysed for?” she asked Rift, looking down at Veyron whom was laying down on the soft sofa.
"Big dragons it's usually only about 10-15 minutes. Just long enough to get away. For him though... hours maybe?"
Hitteki gave the small dragon a smirk, thinking of what she could do but decided to be the bigger dragon, but she wouldn’t let the wraith get a free pass.
“I think we best take him to the professor Melina so she could monitor him and make sure he doesn’t have a heart attack” Hitteki said to the spine back.
"That's a good idea, Hitteki. Oh stars I feel bad. I'll come along in case the professor has any questions..." said Rift, obviously concerned about the wraith.
Hitteki nodded lightly.
“Don’t blame yourself Rift, he needs to pay attention what he is doing and stop vaulting onto people, anyways let’s get him to the professor” Hitteki said gently picking up the wraith but as she moved him she dropped him from a very small height as if he slipped from her claws.
Veyron's eyes went wide as he tumbled from her paws and hit the floor.
'You did that on purpose you fuzz brained idiot!' he hissed inwardly.
"Careful!" said Rift, wincing at what happened.
“Oh I’m sorry Veyron…butter talons, come on let’s get you there” Hitteki said as he carried the wraith towards the labs, however the rip for the wraith wasn’t exactly smooth.
Veyron knew she was purposefully jostling him around as they walked to the labs. He cursed at her silently, unable to do anything but move his eyes.
Soon the two of them made their way to the labs, once cleared they entered with Veyron in Hitteki’s paws.
Zyra was the first on the scene as Melina was on her way from the other side of the labs.
Zyra looked up as she saw Hitteki and Rift enter the labs. "Hey, what's up- oh!" she said, startled at seeing Veyron laying in Hitteki's paws. "Stars above, what happened?"
She ushered them towards the medical bay while calling for Melina to hurry over.
Melina came over as she saw Veyron.
“Goodness, get Veyron onto the bed over here Hitteki” Melina said as the Syrian obliged but as she put the wraith on the bed a bit too harsh.
“Easy Hitteki” Melina said as the Syrian apologised.
'I am going to murder you,' the wraith thought as he was put down roughly.
“What exactly happened?” Melina asked.
"Veyron tried to jump down onto my back but I moved and one of my spine caught him on the side. My breed had a type of poison on them that is able to paralyze," explained Rift apologetically, "I didn't realize I had it yet. It's not something spine-backs are hatched with."
Melina nodded as Zyra brought in the scanners as Melina put sensor pads on the wraith, as he was connected up.
“Well judging the look on his face, eyes darting and rising and falling of his chest it was a small dose, heart rate is strong, Zyra can you do a full scan and take a blood sample” Melina asked.
"Yes of course," said the bold wing as Veyron looked around at the needle she procured from one of the drawers.
"See if he can answer questions by moving his eyes," suggested Zyra as she got the computer ready to scan him.
Melina nodded lightly as the other two dragons stood away, allowing the doctors to do their work.
“Ok, Heart is stable, lungs unaffected, it’s a weak dose that’s entered his system it seems or he be in serious trouble, Zy can you do full body scan please” Melina asked the bold wing.
"Completing scan now," said the dragoness a few minutes later when the computer signalled it was complete.
"Vitals normal. Nothing shows up as abnormal on the scan. Just a potent paralytic in his bloodstream. "
No ****, thought Veyron.
Melina noticed the look from Veyron, least he was ok and that vital organs had not been damaged.
“Looks like Rift’s venom has caused temporary paralysis of his muscles and motor functions, least that is something, has the computer calculated an estimate time?” Melina asked the dragoness.
"Two to three hours," replied Zyra as she tapped the screen.
"Veyron look up at the ceiling if you're experiencing any pain. Down if you're not," said Zyra.
Veyron looked down and the dragoness let out a breath. "That's good. We'll get you back to normal soon."
Melina nodded in agreement.
"Well we monitor him here for the next few hours, we get a blood sample and carry out the analysis on the poison, in the meantime careful with the spines" Mel said to Hitteki and Rift.
Rift looked guilty and nodded. "Yes ma'am."
"It will be imperative to have a few samples on hand. Might be useful in the future. We'll sort that out later." Said Zyra.
Melina agreed.
“It isn’t Rift’s fault professor, Veyron jumped down from his walk way, showing off but caught Rift by accident” Hitteki said in defence of the male.
“Ok, that’s ok, noone is being blamed, a simple mis calculation, we take care of Veyron, you go off now” Melina said to the dragons.
"Thank you, professor," said rift. "Sorry again, Veyron."
As the two of them walked out of the labs rift looked up at Hitteki and whispered, “he's going to kill me isn't he?"
“Not if I can help it Rift, you be fine, just next time we tussle don’t paralyse me please” Hitteki said nudging his shoulder lightly.

Vonriir had circled around the two humans and lowered his head to listen to the man. The dragon’s interested expression was nearly comical as he put his head on his paws to tune into the outline of the plan.
"Vonriir will be on the ground acting as an active deterrent and Martina will patrol in the fighter in the inner circle, so we have close quarters covered," Holtan explained to them both.
"Ah alright…. so the youngsters will be trying to get past us then?" Hummed Vonriir, thinking about the scenario in his head before he had a thought. "Say… we’ll be the bad guys, Martina!" He chuckled, suddenly realizing.
"Depends on your definition of good and bad, regardless, we will be holding someone and ensuring the airfield is secure and that they do not escape with team gold," Holtan said.
Vonriir thumped his tail happily in anticipation, making the room shake, "oh sounds like a thrilling training session! Oh I do look forward to how it will play out.”
Holtan seemed to lose his step a little from the thump of the tail, "Easy Von, you forget that thick trunk of a tail can cause earthquakes," teased Martina.
Holtan peered at the dragons short but thick tail, "Looks more like a mace than a tail" the man said.
"I was told one of our team was on the receiving end and it’s a solid hit" Martina grinned.
"Oh Melina don't tell him that!" protested Vonriir, embarrassed as he recalled the day, "My tail can be used for defence but... it does have a bit of a mind of its own sometimes," he said sheepishly.
"I can see...regardless it will come in handy, I want you two to be on the ball with this, dont give the dragons a chance" Holtan said assertively.
"We make them work, wont we Von?" Martina said.
"We certainly will," nodded the big dragon with confidence. "You can count on us, sir."
"Excellent, in 2 weeks the operation begins, we can use whatever means at our disposal to protect the airfield, so be on guard, 2 weeks remember" Holtan said.

Veyron had not slept while he waiting out the poisons course. Breathing continued as normal but he felt like he couldn’t take a deep breath which made him anxious, trapped in his own body that refused to move. Eventually he could blink and twitch the ruff along his cheeks. Being paralyzed made him want to panic but he tried to just think about how he would get Hitteki back for dropping him on his face to keep his mind off his trouble.
About two hours after he had been stricken with the poison he got his voice back and could now move one arm.
“Stars.. thank god,” he said, moving his jaw. He flexed his one paw, feeling a string static like tingling in his limb as it ‘woke’ back up.
“Damn spine-back…. Should have known,” he said to himself, testing out the capabilities of his voice.
"Hey! Melina!" Came the wraiths shout through the medical ward.
Melina came through as her footsteps echoed as she approached the wraiths bed.
"Hey Veyron, the poisons effects must be wearing off, how you feeling?" she asked.
"Like ****," he snapped, trying to prop himself up in a sitting position but his body wanted to flop over, still not fully recovered yet, "I still can't feel anything below my chest and everything feels like pins and needles now."
"It will take a bit of time for you to regain full control but it is wearing off as you can talk again," she replied.
"Please tell me everything is going to work properly once it wears off…" he growled, staring at his unmoving toes though something else concerned him more. It was bizarre trying to will his tail to move but just watch it sit there like it didn’t belong to him. His wings were still under the effects of the paralytic.
"I’m sure it will, you need to rest here so we can monitor you," the professor said, "Added bonus its free this visit" she tried to joke.
Veyron flopped back down on the bed, giving up on trying to get his unresponsive limbs to move.
"Good. I spend enough time in here as it is," he grumbled, rubbing his face with his paw as he thought about every other time he had woken up in this damn infirmary.
"It was an accident Veyron, you can’t put blame on Rift, just freak accident, just be lucky it wasn’t more potent" the professor said.
"I don't blame Rift but I can certainly blame Hitteki for dropping me on my face shortly after," he huffed. He had a feeling that this was no case of ‘butter talons’ but a coy way of showing him she still had the power to make his life insufferable at times.
"Oh… she mentioned she accidently dropped you, she was worried, good job she brought you in," Melina said.
Veyron scowled at her, "No. Not a 'good job'." He grumbled.
"Why do you say that, considering you twos history, she could of used u as a prop and dressed you up," the professor replied.
Veyron had been dreading the things she could have done. He had seen that glint in her eye before she had decided the better of it.
"I'm honestly surprised she didn't try anything worse, knowing her. Probably on semi decent behaviour because rift was there," he growled angrily.
"Told u to give her a chance, good job she brought you in," Melina replied.
“She lost any extra chances when she tried to kill me,” huffed the wraith but Melina was no longer paying him any mind, taking the data that the computer had collected about the wraith’s poisoning and walking off.

“I just feel terrible,” said Rift, hiding under his paws as he sat in the dragon hangar and explained what he had done to Comox and Ardon.
“It’s not your fault, Rift,” Ardon repeated. “But what a unique ability.”
“Yeah. I have to agree. I’ve never heard anything like it,” nodded Comox.
“I didn’t think I’d get this ability for another few years at least. What am I going to do? What if a human accidentally touches the spines? I don’t know how it could affect them,” said Rift, sitting down and looking over his shoulder at the spines.
Comox lowered his head and surveyed the black spikes, “I could see if we could design a cover for them, that might help.”
“That would be a good idea, help prevent me from making everyone keel over.” The spine-back laughed nervously.
“Well I’ll work on that then,” smiled Comox, and you just don’t go jabbing anyone with those.”
Ardon was quiet for a moment, thinking about applications the poison could be used for if they get vials of it. Maybe something like that would be useful in the future…

Jack had decided to seek out Comox, knowing the bold wing male would be in professor Baxter’s labs overseeing all the IT stuff, the man was pleased he taken the role and it really gave the dragon a purpose and to build his confidence.
Jack entered the labs where the IT technicians worked and where all the Torchwood systems were maintained to high standards.
Comox looked up from typing and smiled at the commander, "hello, Jack. How can I help you?"
“Hello Comox, I hope I am not disturbing you, I know your doing a great job here from what I been told” Jack said.
"Things haven't burnt down so far," said Comox with a light laugh, "and no you're not disturbing me at all. It's pretty quiet in here. Not much to look after today."
Jack nodded lightly.
“Well will you be available for the exercise due in a few days’ time, will you be up for that?” Jack asked the male bold wing.
"Oh, sure. It's just on the airbase not far from here right?" Asked Comox. "I won't be away from here too long?"
Jack nodded lightly at Comox words.
“Well it be a scenario operation, we get the mission briefing and Ardon will lead it, me, Melina will be riders, this operation will be led by the dragons” Jack said.
“He might need your speed and power with him in completing this exercise” Jack added.
The bold wing nodded, "well if I'm needed I will certainly be there."
Jack smiled.
“Excellent, keep fit and nimble then Co, you be needed, I let Ardon know, keep up the good work” Jack said to the male.
"Thank you, sir, I appreciate it," the dragon smiled and nodded his head once more.
Jack left the bold wing to crack on with the work ,he was really impressed with the male’s progress, considering where he had been all those years ago.
Jack winked at the male.
“Keep it up and see you in 2 days” Jack said leaving the bold wing to continue his work undisturbed.

Meanwhile Mark was working in his office as the wraith was lounging about and merely browsing on the tablet, once Mark had finished his important work on his laptop, he then unlocked and opened his secure cabinet drawer and pulled out a 70cl bottle of age oak, extra reserve whiskey from Scotland, it was an expensive bottle and the man put it on the table for the wraith to see.
Veyron looked at the bottle and tilted it, reading the label, "what's required of me now?" He asked. "Must be something big, this is a good one."
Mark sat back down and looked at the wraith.
“Your unique services are required for this exercise, scout, recon and infiltrator, I want you to take part and help team dragon succeed” Mark replied.
"You do?" Asked the wraith, leaning on the bottle. "Looking to impress your buddy hm?"
Mark gave the wraith a look.
“I would try and lie to you and say no but in truth, yeah, I want to impress him, show that I got at least the impression you take orders from me, rather than sneaking around and simply just eat and drink in excess” Mark replied back.
Veyron gave him a sly grin. So this was what mark was after. Wanting to show Holtan that the wraith did take orders and didn't operate simply whenever it favoured him.
"I see, so this is your upfront deposit for your assurance that I act like your obedient dog, hm? What's headed my way after the training exercise?" He asked, seeing how much he could get away with.
Mark frowned lightly, not too impressed with the wraith’s response.
“How about not throwing you back to Kilara and having Forge take you back to Wraith land” Mark said to the wraith, clearly not wanting his patience to be tested or his generosity abused.
Veyron flicked the end of his tail in response, looking at his talons, "fine. I'll play your game and make you look like you have me on a leash for the moment. Blow them away during the training exercise... but don't expect much more than that."
“Take the whiskey as a down payment and a wagyu beef meal from Toby afterwards” Mark said.
"Deal," grinned the wraith. "You'll be looking like the lord of dragons in no time. I guarantee it." He snickered.
“We will see if your boasting turns into a result, if we fail to Holtan’s team then I wont be impressed” Mark said.
"You're always impressed with me," grinned the wraith, coiling around the bottle.
Mark shook his head and laughed lightly.
“We will see dragon, I must ask if the archives hadn’t been looking for you, would have been still living the high life” Mark looked at Veyron.
"Damn straight I would be. That penthouse in LA was the dream," grinned the dragon. "Had everything I could have ever wanted."
Mark nodded lightly as a question came to his mind.
“Would you leave Torchwood 5 to have your own place in LA?” Mark asked.
Veyron shrugged, noncommittal to the man's question. "You'd miss me too much. Besides, I'd have people trying to hunt me down left and right. Life on the run is exhausting."
Mark listened in as he fiddled with a pen in his hand, listening to the Wraiths response, he had an idea and contacts still and had enquired about his idea with regards to Veyron.
The man decided to pry a little further with the wraith.
“If I said I know people who could ensure you were taken care of and you could live in a penthouse in US and LA, would you leave here?” Mark asked again, as he looked at the dragon.
Veyron shrugged again, playing it off as like he didn't care much one way or another. "Maybe. I dunno. You guys here would have a hard time without me if I left," he said, jumping off the desk and reaching up to drag the whiskey bottle down to his level.
Mark nodded lightly.
“Exercise will be in 2 days, ensure your kit is in order and be ready to aid golden wonder, if Holtan wins…..” Mark said.
"If Holtan wins you'll be sad yeah yeah whatever. I make sure you won't have to go cry in a corner, Mark," he said, rolling the bottle of whiskey out the door.
Mark rolled his eyes and shook his head, some days he was impressed with the wraith and other days he wanted to throw him across the room, the man went back to his work.

In the evening Jack and Ardon had retired ot their shared quarters in the dragon academy, Jack was getting ready for bed while Ardon sat down near his bed as he was talking to the man.
"I am looking forward to showing Holtan just what we can do. Maybe he'll trust us more after this training session," said Ardon.
Jack nodded lightly as he changed into his nightwear, as he rolled his shoulders.
“I hope so too, I think he is concerned his prized asset would get damaged or his work for the EA ruined, but I think you all got a point to prove, you be leading this one Ardy, I am merely a rider only, not leading” Jack said.
"Dead weight then," the gold teased him.
Jack gave the dragon a look and folded his arm, looking at the golden dragon.
“If I wasn’t in my Pj’s I would so kick your scaled rump from here to the outside, I will be a rider and making sure I help, along with Melina and the other dragons.” Jack replied.
Ardon laughed and stuck out his tongue, "Sure. We will see how helpful you are."
Jack fought the urge to roll his eyes.
“Charming, anyway I am off to bed young dragon, means leave you to your own devices” Jack said to the dragon.
"Hmm. Sleep for me too I think," he said, trying to stifle a yawn.
“might be an idea I think, keep you fresh for the upcoming exercise, be a real test of everything you guys of learnt, anyways sleep well” Jack said as he climbed into his bed.
"You too, Jack," said Ardon, pulling a blanket over himself and snuggling down onto his own bed.
“Spoilt lad” Jack thought as he chuckled to himself as the lights went out for them, soon both of them fell asleep.

It was 3am when the professor had woken up, worrying about the test and wanting to be sure she was not imagining things, she wanted to get to the truth but things were worrying her, she tried to get back off to sleep but lay there wide awake as thoughts bounced around in her head.
Zyra shifted on her bed and opened her eyes, a worrying feeling having woke her.
"Mel?" She asked sleepily.
Melina turned in to look at the bold wing realising she had been woken up by her worrying, Brathille seemed to know these things and seemed to nudge Zyra.
“Oh, sorry Zy, I can’t sleep, been up since 1am, sorry to wake you girl” Melina said.
"It's okay. What's going on?" Asked the dragoness, sitting up.
Melina reached and turned on her side table light and looked at Zyra, sitting up in her bed.
“The test today we are doing, bit of me is thinking it’s a false reading but..what if it isn’t….just allot of ideas bouncing around in my head” Melina said.
"I know. I was thinking about it all day too. Any theories?" She asked, putting her head on her paws.
Melina shook her head and stretched.
“I think we do it now, we are up anyways, let me get a shower and we sneak down to the labs, close the shutters and lock the lab entrance” Melina said to the bold wing as she got up from bed.
The dragoness got up and stretched, "sounds like a plan to me." She replied, following Melina.
Melina smiled lightly.
“Well, let me get a shower first girl, if you follow me into the shower I might burn your eyes with my form” she teased.
Zyra laughed lightly at this and laid back down. "Well I'm gonna get a quick few minutes more shut eye while you do that then. Wake me when you're ready to go."
“Will do” Melina said as she went to have a shower.
Once out of the shower, the professor quickly dried and got changed while the bold wing snoozed, it did not take long until she was ready, hair tied back neatly in a pony tail as she put on her glasses and taking a deep breath, she was ready.
"Ok Zy, let's sneak into the labs unseen" Melina said as she turned the lights off in their room.
Zyra stepped quietly out of the room into the silent hall. She gestured to Melina and together they walked down towards the labs.
The two of them sneaked in the darkness, sticking to being silent, making sure they avoided any night patrols and kept to the shadows as they finally made their way to the labs, once in Melina locked the door and the shutters were already closed by Sam, one less job as the dim lights came on automatically.
Melina sighed and looked at the bold wing.
"Ok, least the hard part is done, not waking anyone up, we can get on with this without prying eyes" Melina said.
"Get what done?" Asked a voice atop Zyra's head. The dragoness yelped and jumped in surprise as Veyron clung onto a horn for dear life.
Melina turned to see Veyron on top of Zyra’s head, looking surprised as Zyra’s yelp startled her.
“What the heck, how …why, you even up at this godly hour. How did you get in” Melina said once the startled woman had calmed down
"I'm usually up around now," said Veyron, jumping down onto the table and sauntered over to Melina. "And as for how I got in, that's a trade secret. So, what are you ladies doing sneaking around in the dark?"
Melina sighed shaking her head lightly.
“Zyra, remind me to check the lab for holes or tunnels next full inspection, can we just chuck him down the rubbish shoot?” Melina said.
“Hey now that's not very nice there, Prof." said Veyron, moving out of reach.
"Sneaking in isn't very nice either," said Zyra said a little dryly.
"Well I just wanted to make sure you ladies were alright," he say grinning coyly.
Melina smiled lightly.
“Yeah, you want to know what we are up to, just in case your missing anything juicy, now shoo we got work to do” Melina said pointing to the door.
"Aw come on, Goodwin. Let me see the brains at work. I can keep a secret," he insisted.
“Hrmm, for a price, wouldn’t you agree Zyra?” Melina looked at the wraith coyly.
"Whatcha think we should ask for?" Grinned Zyra.
"No no, that's my trademark. I’m just gonna supervise and maybe lend a little outsiders opinion on whatever sneaky stuff you're doing in here. There. I'll trade my valuable insight."
Melina smiled lightly.
“Ok, if we allow you to stay here then you keep zipped, because if you don’t, I set Zyra on you, or Hitteki” Melina replied.
"Your secrets are safe with me," promised the wraith, settling himself on a shelf above so that he could supervise.
Melina sighed, knowing Veyron would stick around and want to know, she resigned to allowing the nosy wraith to stay, she decided to crack on.
“Ok Zyra, can you bring the mobile workstation and I get the samples from all four umm people” Melina said as she walked off to the morgue.
Once Melina went down to get the samples the wraith started his investigative or nosy nature, depending which side of the fence you stood on the matter.
"So why are you doing this all stealth like?" Asked Veyron.
"Because it's delicate work and we don't want to give any false hope at cracking this case if we're just testing theories." Zyra half lied.
Melina soon returned with the samples and put them separate, two labelled M1 D1 and the other M2 D2, she put on gloves and was delicate when opening them up.
“Zy can you get Veyron some gloves and protective gear including mask, I don’t want samples contaminated” Melina said noticing the wraith leaning in to get a look.
"We don't really have anything that small..." said Zyra, thinking what she could improvise with.
"I'm fine up here. I wont touch... yuck... that," he said with a grimace.
“Stay there then, Zyra, can you activate the X ray machine and open the door for the first two samples please” the professor said, getting her tweezers to put the samples into the X ray analysis machine.
"Ready," said the dragoness, opening the door and preparing the machine.
Veyron surveyed from above, slightly grossed out but interested.
Melina put the flesh samples onto the clean, sterile holder and then sealed up the chamber, pressing a button to lock the door.
“Ok Zyra run the x ray analysis tests and then as soon as they are done, onto the digital film processing scanner and we see what results come up with” Melina said to the bold wing.
The dragoness nodded and Veyron watched them worth with interest.
"You two seem to be able to anticipate what the other needs or is about to do," he noted as Zyra set to getting the digital film up on the screen.
Melina smiled lightly.
“We been bonded 7 years Veyron, she’s been my apprentice and I’ve taught Zyra and we are pretty in sync with how we do analysis and Dr Zyra is amazing” Melina said as she took the first samples out.
Zyra smiled lightly at the praise.
"I guess being bonded isn't a total trap then. For you two anyway." Said the wraith.
Melina smiled lightly.
“Well I do feel guilty that Zyra and our bonded dragons can’t be free and do stuff unbonded dragons can but I think Brathille has a unique strength and brings us closer and in tune making us the ideal team, right reset the X ray for the second samples” Melina said.
"X-ray has been reset," Zyra stated as the machine buzzed. "The second set can be processed now."
Melina did the same, using her tweezers she replaced the previous samples with the new ones on a fresh holder to prevent contamination and did the same.
She turned to speak to Zyra once the door was closed.
“Ok same procedure again and put it onto separate digital film for processing and we ask the computer to do its calculations” Melina said as she closed the door for the x ray machine to carry out its processes.
"It's just processing now. Should take a few minutes," said Zyra.
Melina nodded and smiled lightly.
“Ok, have the computer do its processing and analysis and then we wait and see what happens, keep it on the locked drive, only use two to have access” Melina said disposing of the samples into the incinerator.
Veyron looked down at where Melina had tossed the old samples.
"That burns anything up?"
Melina looked up at the small dragon.
“It’s a bio hazard incinerator, designed to incinerate and sterilise, to ensure no contamination or any nasty things coming to make us ill or pollute the labs” Melina replied to the wraith.
“It’s also biometric fingerprint ID so you can’t go burning marks or Hitteki’s things” Melina added.
"Damn," replied the wraith but smiled at her. "Could have been useful to me. How much to get myself access?"
The professor shook her head in disbelief at the wraiths comments.
“You’re a real charmer Veyron, you know that?” Melina said as Zyra uploaded the information from the results onto a side screen.
“Lock it to just me and you Zy, keep it off the main drivers” Melina instructed.
"You got it," replied the dragoness, ensuring that he results kept to the secure location. "There. All set."
Veyron jumped down to Melina's shoulders. Wanting to be part of the result reveal.
"How long will it take for the computer to process the x ray scans and film Zy? " the professor asked.
"Just a few more minutes. It's nearly done," replied Zyra.
"I thought you had the best tech in the land. Shouldn't it be instantaneous at this point?" Teased Veyron.
Melina gave the wraith a look.
“Would you like to leave or be patient a little while longer?” Melina asked Veyron as they waited.
"I'll stay," the wraith said with a smirk.
"Why anyone tolerates you I have no Idea," Said Zyra.
After a few minutes went by the computer alerted them that the results were ready.
Melina took a silent breath as she looked at the results, the computer soon alerted them to an anomaly with the second samples, as the readings and pictures came out, what she saw stunned her, this was no false reading.
“That..that is impossible, really impossible” the professor said as she typed on the keyboard and brought the readings up.
Zyra looked surprised and confused all at once, a paw going up to her mouth as she read.
"What? What is it?" Demanded Veyron.
Melina turned the screen and showed the wraith the Digital X ray film, the one the X rays penetrated through the flesh samples, the other did not and reflected the X rays meaning they looked like the flesh samples but in only black and white.
"So... what does this mean?" He queried.
Melina gave Veyron a look.
“Human flesh nor any flesh really shouldn’t be able to deflect X rays Veyron, you should at least know that, which means the 2nd samples and bodies we have in the morgue aren’t really human, they are copies, near identical copies bar this one difference” the professor explained.
"But what the hell is it made of if it looks and... ugh smells like flesh but does this to your machine?" he asked.
Melina shook her head lightly.
“I have no idea, we may need to do a deeper molecular analysis on these samples to get to the bottom of it, what this shows is that these two were copies, who created them is another question….hrmm” Melina said as the gears turned in her head.
"Now that we have this data, do you think we should tell Jack and the others?" asked Zyra
Melina shook her head.
“Not yet no, I got an idea we could, we could develop something, which we could use to detect copies, since we seem to be getting them, then we can investigate who or what is doing this”. Melina said.
"You think there are even more of things out there?" asked Veyron, sounding a bit concerned.
"It's a good possibility. Who knows," said Zyra.
Melina agreed.
“For now, we keep it quiet, when I get more work done and we have investigated more, then we will release our findings, perhaps develop a type of camera, to detect these copies” Melina suggested.
"Hear that, Veyron, keep it quiet," said Zyra firmly, looking at the wraith sitting on the professor's shoulders.
Veyron mimicked zipping up his mouth and stashing away the keys.
“Thanks, I want to make sure this is all right before revealing, just in case, perhaps we have a copy among us at the moment, I don’t think so but we can’t be too sure, when Baxter returns we work on the device and test people” Melina said.
Zyra nodded, "It makes my scales crawl just thinking that we might have another imposter in here."
"No kidding," Veyron."
Melina nodded lightly.
“We need to find out how or who is doing this, they have a very advanced tech, cloning people, not perfect but near as dammit” Melina said as the records were all saved.
“Ok Zy power everything down, we were never here, I trust everyone will keep this quiet, until I have more data and until Baxter is back to work on this machine” Melina said.
"You got it Melina," said Zyra.
"Of course," nodded the wraith surprisingly. He knew that letting others in on this kind of information would ruin their advantage. "Let me know if I can help."
Melina nodded.
“Thanks, least we know this wasn’t an error, we need a bit more time and patience, we get more data soon I am sure” Melina said as the 3 of them exited the labs.

Zyra had called Rift to the labs so that she could take some samples of his paralytic toxin so that she and Melina could have it on hand for study. The spine-back had been happy to help and had given Zyra enough for one small vial.
“It can be absorbed through the skin but the reaction is a bit slower. The spines are sharp, and the poison is most potent if the spines pierce the skin and release into the bloodstream. Veyron said the effect was just a second or two after he got scratched,” explained Rift, trying to remember what his mother had said about the spines.
Zyra held up the small vial of the spineback poison and inspected it as the light from above filtered through the glass. The poison had oily properties and swirled around the vial with almost a glittery effect. The poison was a dark blue-purple colour and was expressed through pores in the sharp edge of the spine when pressure was put on them; an involuntary response but one that could save the life of a threatened dragon.
“It takes about 30 seconds for large dragons, or creatures. My father was attacked once by a creotaun and he didn’t think the toxin would work but it finally took hold.”
“Amazing,” marvelled Zyra, thinking about all the trails she could put this through, “Thank you for coming in, Rift, hopefully this will have some good uses in the future,” said the dragoness as she stowed the vial away safely.
“No problem, so you’ll be writing down information about the poison?” he inquired, sitting across from her.
The dragoness nodded as she stripped off the specially made gloves that had been made for her, “Yes and testing it which is why I’ll need you to come back every few weeks to top up the supply. Its wild how such a tiny amount can cause such a potent reaction.”
“Well whatever you end up doing with it I hope it’s useful.”
“I’m sure it will be, Rift. Has Veyron learned his lesson and stopped calling on you for rides?” inquired Zyra with a smile.
Rift grinned, “Well he hasn’t been jumping on my back, that’s for certain. My head, however is a different story. I hate to admit it but he’s silent as the night and nearly scared the scales off of me every time he pounces out of nowhere.”
“You’re not the only one he manages to spook. I think he enjoying scaring others. Makes him feel powerful in a way considering he’s so small.”
The spine-back laughed, “I guess so, anyway, if you’re done with me here I have to get back to Guardian Ardon to continue on with the chapter we’re working on.”
Zyra nodded, “Of course, go ahead. Have fun with your studies,” she said though a little absently as an idea came over her. “Could it be possible?” she whispered to herself as she reached for her tablet to take some notes.

In the canteen Ardon and Comox were eating lunch while chatting about the day ahead,“Have you seen Zyra lately?” asked Ardon as he took another bite.
Comox shook his head, “No, she’s been holed up in the labs for the last few days working on something. She wouldn’t tell me what though.”
“Hmm,” said Ardon, swallowing the mouthful of sandwich, “Think she’s going full tilt into her studying so she can be called professor Zyra?”
The Boldwing shrugged, “I don’t think so, her course binder is still sitting out here on the coffee table,” he said pointing.
“Strange, I wonder what she’s working on in there then?”
Rift then trotted up, catching the last bit of the conversation, “Oh Zyra?” he asked, “She just collected some of the toxin from my spines. I think she and professor Melina are going to study it.
“Oh, how interesting,” said Comox.
“Yeah, I suppose. We’ll see what she comes up with,” replied rift.
“We should be putting it in darts or something to take down enemies,” Said Ardon.
“Like the movies?” snorted Comox. “That would be something.”

A few days later Melina came in and saw Zyra hard at work with her mobile workstation nearby. The dragoness had been in the labs endlessly for the past few days working away at the task of mending Holtan’s eyes.
"Hey Doctor, how is it going, any progress?" the professor asked.
The Boldwing took a moment to respond, carefully injecting the deep indigo liquid into a vial and stoppering it. "I think..... I think so. Possibly if all my calculations and measurements are correct. My first three serums were duds but I think I finally have something..." she said, holding up a vial to show her what she was working on.
Melina inspected it carefully.
"What have you used to make this?" she enquired.
“You will never guess,” the dragoness said with an excited but nervous smile. She really hoped her theory would be correct. Her serum still needed to go through a number of tests before it could be counted on as safe and even then it would be required to go through the computer system to see if it would even work.
Melina smiled lightly at the bold wing, "That a challenge Doctor? you should know I am pretty good" Melina said to Zyra.
"Then tell me what's in here. You have guess," she grinned, holding up one talon with one paw as she passed the vial to the professor with the other.
Melina checked and looked at the serum and studied it. It was a strange colour and flowed in an ethereal way, pale pearl shimmering in the indigo fluid, "Hrmm I think dexamethasone? Combined with a steroid to reduce his sensitivity to light?" Melina said.
“You’re half right, about the steroid at least but a portion of it is derived from Rift’s paralytic! I had the idea come to me after the first collection,” replied the dragoness excitedly, “When paired with a steroid commonly found in medicated eye drops the paralytic only targets the receptors that are causing the severe light sensitivity! I think it just might work.”
Melina smile got bigger as she felt the bold wings excitement and she was genuinely impressed.
"Well done Doctor, I am indeed impressed, using Rift's toxin for a good use, very good," Melina said, handing back the vial.
"I just want to ensure it works before we bring it to him, will you help me make sure it passes through the computer system correctly? I would hate to bring him something that didn’t work."
Melina nodded.
"Of course Doctor, we get it all sorted before we call him up, haven’t seen him for days again," the professor commented.
“Tinkering about in his office maybe. Perhaps the possibility of curing his light sensitivity will be enough to draw him out. Come on, let’s begin testing,” Said the dragoness with enthusiasm.

Martina had been in her quarters practicing a new sheet of music on her guitar, with Vonriir’s encouragement to play and practice the song while he was with her, the woman obliged, looking at the music sheet as she played the new song, with her massive dragon listening.
Vonriir tapped a talon to the beat of the tune that his Attilu was learning to play on her guitar.
"How quickly you pick up the songs you learn is astounding."
Martina smiled lightly, turning a page as she continued playing the instrument, smoothly moving her fingers over the strings to make the different tunes required for the song.
“I can see dragons love this part of human culture, musical instruments and the music we play as well” she replied to the bronze.
"It's fascinating. We have songs, sure. But the music humans have is something else." He mused.
Martina laughed lightly.
“Plus you on base as well, we should tour the country” Martina joked lightly.
"What would you call our little band?" Chuckled the large dragon.
“What about, Humon and Von?” she said laughing lightly at her very poor attempt at trying to name their custom band.
"Scale and Song? Avalon's Duet?" Teased Vonriir, laughing. "Listen To Us And Clap Or Else has a nice ring to it."
Martina laughed as she put her guitar down and shook her head.
“You bring out the inner silly child in me Vonriir, every day with you is like..gosh a fun exciting dream, I almost fear I might wake up and its all a dream” the woman said.
"Ah I don't think it's a dream, as lovely as it's been. It would be quite a disappointment if it wasn't real." Said Vonriir.
Martina smiled lightly.
“Are..are your parents still alive on Kilara or your siblings at all?” Martina asked out of the blue.
"My parents are alive and well. I have a sister out there in the world but I haven't seen her in ages. Perhaps one day you would like to meet my family?" Asked the dragon.
Martina looked up and smiled lightly.
“Id like that, I be so tiny among you giants though, I want to be a good atillu to you, I might need to trim my hair and look robust” Martina said.
"You are perfect just the way you are. What a surprise it would be for them. Their son returning with the greatest honour a dragon could have. They would be pleased to meet you I can assure you that." Smiled Vonriir.
Martina was happy with what Vonriir said as she packed away her guitar.
“So I been reading Melina’s book of dragons on Kilara, apparently your in the top 4 heavy weight dragon breeds, Earth dragons, Western mountain dragons and Hoplite Rams” Martina said remembering the names.
The large dragon nodded. "Cragbacks in there too so you get a two for one deal with me," chuckled Vonriir. "Those are only heavy weights from Talkiir. The other side of kilara could have an array of huge dragons. Icarus is a big dragon too."
Martina nodded as a beeping noise came up on the screen as an email was waiting, Martina approached and looked at it.
"Can you open that and read it to me, Martina, I forgot my glasses in the canteen." Said Vonriir.
“You need to pick those up Von, its from Sub Commander Holtan, our orders for the exercise on Wednesday, our orders and instructions” Martina said.
"I'll grab them when we go to get food next. What are our instructions?" He asked.
Martina read the email again on her screen.
“We will get more orders on site, we will be required to get there at midday and you to wear your armour and glasses too, orders from Holtan” Martina said, finishing the email.
"My break resistant glasses are stowed away with my armour," he said after a moment. "I do look forward to seeing what all this is about."
Martina nodded.
“You have to be a bad dragon Von, do you think you can do that with the others?” Martina asked with a smile.
"Oh I don't know. How's this for a villainous scowl?" He asked, trying to look mean.
Martina tried not to laugh at seeing his attempt.
“I think baring your teeth and a mean growl will do it” Martina said giving Vonriir a thumbs up.
Vonriir pulled his lips back in a snarl and let out a deep threatening growl that rumbled from deep in his throat.
"Stars!" He chuckled, surprising himself.
Martina was impressed, if not a little wary as the dragon growled loudly, as it echoed in their chambers, she had to admit, he must have been a frightening dragon while under Forge’s command, but she knew the dragon was not a battle-hardened dragon.
She gestured to his chest.
"Must be your build and barrel chest give you an amazing roar, how any dragon would dare oppose you" Martina said proudly.
"Bigger the lungs bigger the roar," he laughed lightly. "I'm sure the younglings will try despite the growl."
Martina nodded in agreement, they were a determined bunch.
"They will, our job is to make it hard for them" the woman said
"We can manage that I'm sure," nodded the dragon.
“Good” Martina said as she packed everything away and stretched.
"Well Vonriir, we best grab a bite to eat, grab your glasses and we best study and see about beating team gold" Martina said.
"Sounds like a plan, miss Martina," nodded the large cragback
"Will you be difficult with team gold von, i know its not your style but be a good test for them" Martina asked the dragon.
"I'll do my best. I've flown with most of them long enough to know some of what to expect from them. We will put up a grand fight." Said Vonriir
Martina smiled, knowing Vonriir would give it his best...as long as he didn’t laugh during the exercise.

Ardon was chatting with rift as they walked into the canteen before they spotted Hitteki.
"Whatcha looking at? Photos?" Inquired Ardon as they sat across from her.
Hitteki looked up and nodded at the two males who had approached her.
"Oh hello, I just got photos of the airfield, in preparation for our exercise" Hitteki said to the two males.
"Oh studying are we? Let's see,” said rift, scooting over to look. "What do you think they're going to get us to do?"
Hitteki shook her head, unsure what this exercise was going to be about.
"No idea but if we got Martina and Vonriir to contend with, they be obstacles in whatever the sub commander wants out of this exercise" Hitteki replied.
"Yeah we'll have to be cautious at first for sure," said Ardon. "At least until we get a plan sorted out on the field."
Hitteki agreed and show Ardon and Rift more photo’s of the airfield and a map of its location, the Syrian had been resourceful.
"I looking at good points to get in, but i reckon it will be heavily defended, just doing a bit of research....id like us to win" Hitteki admitted.
"Id like us to win too," grinned Ardon. "No one likes losing."
"We'll win," rift said confidently. "I think we have a good team... from what I can tell so far."
"We got fast scouts and fast hitters too" Hitteki added, " plus ground fighters " she said as well.
"Sounds like a well rounded group," said rift.
We're on nodded, "I agree. I think we stand a good chance."
Hitteki nodded as the three continued to discuss the plans and photo’s, perhaps it was her fathers intuition kicking in but Hitteki wanted to be sure they had the best chance of success, even if they were suppose to going into this exercise without the knowledge.
Veyron had sauntered into the canteen and made his way over to see what the young dragons were looking at.
"Ah finally taking a page out of my book hm?" said the wraith suddenly from atop hittekis head.
The Syrian resisted the urge to shake her head.
“Well, trying to, I don’t know if this counts as cheating but, well I’d like to win” the female said a little sheepishly to the wraith.
"If they haven't said no it's not cheating," smirked Veyron. "Take whatever advantages you can find for yourself. See the top left corner there, I think it would be the perfect place for them to hide... something behind the little stand of trees. I'll be keeping my eye on that for sure."
Hitteki nodded as Toby came with their food, once again it was lavish food, full of meat and other luxury items, Hitteki looked surprised as Toby proudly put the large plates in front of them.
“Ahh Veyron, I thought I heard you scuttling around on your walkways here, I got you this to try, I think you be pleasantly surprised, someone recommended you loved this” Toby said handing him the coffee.
Veyron took the cup somewhat suspiciously before smelling it. His eyes got bright as he took a sip.
"If I could purr like these idiots this just might be the thing that'd make me do it." He said. "That's a damn good cup of coffee."
Toby smiled lightly.
“Maskay’s premium coffee blends, expensive stuff, but with the food budget up again, its amazing, I get to cook with all sorts of new foods and cuisines, tonight is Singapore noddle’s” Toby said.
“Our budget has increased again?” Hitteki seemed to question.
As Rift dig into his food happily, Ardon looked surprised, thinking about what else the EA was hiding here.
"This is hard to get!" Hummed Veyron, pleased with the coffee. "What else are we being bribed for, Goldy?" He asked, almost reading the dragons mind.
"I have no idea." Replied Ardon.
"Yet. You have no idea...yet," grinned the wraith.
Toby had dashed off to prepare for food as the others ate their food, thinking what else had the EA bribed them to keep quiet, soon Martina and Vonriir were seen, the massive dragon causing the area to shake lightly.
“I always know when Vonriir is coming, just looking at the water in the bowl” the Syrian joked lightly.
"There's a movie about dinosaurs where water in glasses does that," laughed Ardon.
As predicted, Vonriir came lumbering into the canteen.
"Hullo!" He boomed across the room at them before stopping by the kitchen to needlessly let Toby know he'd arrived.
Hitteki chuckled as Martina smiled and spoke to Toby who said the food would be brought along, the woman seemed happy and so did Vonriir.
“I wonder, if those two know what Holtan is hiding, as they are with his team, perhaps they been told about anything else” Hitteki said to the others.
"Probably," said Veyron.
"They've likely been told their part at least," said Ardon.
"Be sneaky and ask him about it. Von is a terrible liar," Veyron grinned.
Hitteki looked at the wraith and seemed puzzled by the comments.
"Why dont you?, you like snooping for information and it is your job by nature to know things" Hitteki said.
"Wanted to give you the opportunity and Vonriir would more likely tell Ardon than myself," explained the wraith.
Hitteki smiled lightly looking at Ardon.
“Well, your call guardian Ardon” Hitteki replied as the others looked at the gold as Martina and Vonriir settled down at one of the tables.
Ardon gave his little group a look before trotting over to the large dragon.
"Hey Von, how's it going?" Asked the gold.
"Oh just wonderful I'd say," smiled the crag back.
"Excited for your roll in the training exercise?"
"Yes I dare say I am," replied Vonriir.
Martina smiled while eating her muesli, sensing the gold was after something as she listened in to the conversation.
“Before you ask young gold, we had orders and we wont be telling you much, other than we be your opponents and you wont get past me, Von or Avalon” she teased lightly.
Ardon smiled sheepishly, "we will see about that." He laughed.
Back with the others Veyron shook his head. "He should've waited until Martina left."
"Why?" Asked Rift.
"Because where Vonny is the big friendly dope, she knows when someone is trying to take advantage."
Hitteki smiled.
“Martina is switched on, Veyron knows Martina is smart, she is a bit of a gate keeper to Vonriir, hence why Ardon isn’t having much luck” the Syrian said.
"Didn't realize you all run in blindly for everything," tsked the wraith.
“Not everyone” Hitteki said as the gold tried his charm, while Vonriir seemed happy to talk, Martina kept the crag back in check and not giving away much at all, oddly enough it seemed the roles of Martina and Vonriir would remain elusive to them.

The morning of the exercise had come about and Ardon had just finished washing up in his quarters, eager to get underway.
"Ok Ardy, it is time, let's get geared up and to the dragon hanger, time to get this exercise underway" Jack said to the gold.
"Alright, I'm ready to go kick some tail," grinned Ardon, opening the door so Jack could lead them out.
Ardon walked down the corridors with the man, an excited spring to his step as he anticipated the training session ahead.
As they entered the dragon hangar the others greeted them, Comox was already half dressed in his armour while it looked like Zyra and Hitteki were just getting started.
Ardon shrugged into his harness and buckled it securely before setting to securing the sections of armour to it. He looked up as he was strapping on his bracers he looked up to see Melina helping Zyra with strapping on her long tail armour. Decked out in her battle gear the dragoness looked even more fierce, flashes of colour coming through the black kit.
Rift entered the dragon hangar and greeted the other’s warmly.
“Sorry I’m late. I got turned around at the hub again,” he admitted with a laugh.
“You went down the wrong hall?” asked Comox.
Rift nodded, “Yeah, again. Still getting used to how big this place is.”
“You’ll figure it out soon enough. With all the expansions and connecting corridors its no wonder we don’t all get lost more often,” said Zyra kindly as she lowered her head so that Melina could strap on her helmet binding.
"Woah… wait- wait…what about Rift, how will he get to our drop zone point?" Jack asked, thinking of the issue now that the spine-back had arrived.
"I can take him up. You can Ride there with co or Hitteki?" Ardon suggested.
"I think that might be an idea, I hate to burden you more," Jack said as Jack gestured to Comox to approach.
"I'll be fine," said Ardon as he pulled his harness from the hooks on the wall.
"Something I can do for you, sir?" As Comox as he walked over.
"Yes, if you do not mind me riding upon your back, Ardon will be transporting Rift and I don’t fancy being a burden on Ardon on top of Rift's weight" the man said to the male boldwing.
“I don’t mind at all, commander. Happy to help,” nodded Comox.
Jack helped the golden dragon put his armour on, ensuring the plating was secure on the dragon.
"Ok, so we are to go to a dropzone in the woods about 3 miles away from the airfield and I brief you on the exercise" Jack said to the dragons as they gathered around now that the time to go had nearly arrived.
"I have a few photos of the area that might help us coordinate our approach sir," Hitteki said as Melina smiled.
"Well done, you make Veyron proud," Melina lightly teased as Hitteki snorted disapprovingly.
"Alright, we can utilise it at our drop off zone," Jack said.
"Keep those handy, just in case," Ardon told her. "You never know when something like that might be useful."
"Will do Guardian Ardon, I think we all ready, just waiting for Veyron who is coming along as scout and recon" Hitteki said as Melina attached equipment to Zyra's harness.
"Do I have this right?" Asked rift suddenly, walking up. Ardon had suggested that he had taken bits and pieces of old armour from the dragons to fashion them into his own kit seeing as he didn't have his own yet. He looked like he was drowning in the oversized gear.
“Oh dear,” said Zyra under her breath, trying not to laugh. While the armour had been kept from days when Ardon had been not much larger than Rift, their body types were rather different and it showed now that Rift was trying to put the gear on.
Jack smiled and came over to help Rift out, re positioning some of the plating to make it easier for Rift to move. It didn’t seem to help too much and Ardon walked up, considering what to do about the situation.
"I think we need a unique form of armour for you, to allow you move freedom of movement and meaning you can still run at speed," Jack said.
"Yeah. Maybe I'll just leave most of it off, It’s all pretty big." Said the dragon.
“That’s probably a good idea. We don’t want you getting tangled up in it if you’re running,” said Ardon.
"It is up to you Rift, but I will get something ordered for you," Jack replied as he helped Rift take off the metal plates.
"That would be awesome," said Rift.
"Something streamlined to let you move. We'll sort it out soon enough," said Ardon.
"I agree, anyways we best get a move on, cover your spines as Ardon carries you," Jack said.
Rift nodded, not wanting to have another mishap with his toxin. A Kevlar sheet was put over his spines and secured to the harness.
Once everyone was ready Veyron finally showed up.
“You took your sweet time,” said Ardon, looking down as the wraith sauntered in wearing his own tactical gear.
“We weren’t leaving until 11:30 so why waste time sitting around arriving early. It’s 11:28. I’m on time,” replied the wraith.
Ardon rolled his eyes and watched as he clambered up Zyra’s rigging to sit upon her head.
Comox knelt and allowed Jack to climb up to his shoulders before he straightened up again.
"Ok team, to the drop zone, follow Comox, remember this is an exercise so head in the game and keep low to avoid radar" Jack said to the others.
"Also let’s grab a win," Melina added.
Rift clambered, a little awkwardly onto Ardon’s back but then settled fine, “Ready,” he said.
“Alright, Team Gold, let’s get out there,” grinned Ardon. He almost jumped up into the air first but remembered the proper procedure for taking off. He nodded to Hitteki, their smallest to lite first, then the Boldwings before the largest dragon followed last.
“Here we go,” he called to Rift before launching himself into the air.

Out on the airfield Vonriir and Martina had arrived earlier for their briefing on the exercise and were now waiting for Holtan to come give them their instructions.
“Do I look like a villain?” Vonriir asked Martina, puffing up and putting on his best scowl. “I think I need a big scar across my nose… or perhaps an eyepatch! Yes, I’ve seen villains on TV with eye patches.” He chuckled. The large dragon shook and his gear rattled slightly as it resettled against his scales. He had worn his darker set in hopes that it made him look more the part he was to play.
