What's it like to be blind in one eye?

It's hard to notice, but early in the morning I can't see anything and I sorta stumble around and growl at things laying on the floor.
I got hit in the eye with a rock and it left a huge sty in that eye and I suppose it was there long enough to affect my vision permanently. It's also that my eye is shaped funny, from the deformity of my eye socket (which is not visible, no worries).
I get dizzy really fast too, probably because I have a hard time focusing. My left eye really pulls it's weight and double so I can see pretty well head on. But I have no right peripheral vision; that got me into constant trouble with parades when we'd change formation! I was always being yelled at by whoever danced next to me.
I also have a terrible loss of depth so I get a little uneasy when we hike. In order to be fully aware of my surroundings I need to move my head to the right for a check once in a while, which gets really annoying.
Most of the time I ignore it, but it has made me really grumpy because I can't do all the things I used to.

Thank you for asking, I would have wondered the same thing two years ago.

You will get used to seeing with one eye. My Dad lost sight in his right eye when he was four years old when a kid threw a dart through his eye. He could still drive and he could even play sports. You couldn't even tell he was blind besides the fact that his right eye didn't have the full motion to move around.

Now they won't let people drive without full vision though (at least in Cali).
I'll get slapped with a handicapped sticker....

That's horrible. I often complain because I have to wear contacts because of my sight, but losing vision really puts things into perspective.
Thank you for answering the question, though. If I could give you my eyes, I would. ^-^ Although I'm not sure you'd want them because I can't see without my contacts. x_x
